  • I bet GH’s ratings will go up and stay up when Roger Howarth returns to the show

  • Basketball last week pre-empted GH two out of five days in many areas.

    • foxcrane

The basketball tournament was on CBS, not ABC.

  • MorkandMindy

Brooke if you are referring to the NCAA tourn. that started last week Thursday-Friday around noon on CBS I believe. GH actually had higher ratings those two days.  Not sure what happened on Tuesday only 2 mil..not good.  If you are talking about another basketball pre-empt my apologies.

  • Jetfanfvr

These ratings for GH signify to me that the OLTL characters did not bring the expected return, in fact these character debuts saw no increase at all.

The only increase in ratings this new regime has seen since they took full control was the week the character of Robert Scorpio returned. In fact the day he debuted, 2/29 was a 2.0 which they had not seen in months and stayed in the 1.9 range until his story played out. The day after he left 1.7, and has stayed at the range.

  • Look at the season to date ratings before making any assumptions about any of these shows…The weekly ratings do not count any DVR viewership.  At the bottom of this post, each week, it gives the season to date.  The Season-To-Date ratings jump all programs up to numbers that were seen several years ago.   Here’s the actual numbers counting in the DVR numbers which is included in YTD: (from Sept until now)
    1.   Y&R:    4,187,000
    2.   DAYS:  3,180,000
    3.   B&B: 2,867,500
    4.   GH:   2,180,250

Nielsen only counts DVR viewing of Daytime serial dramas if NO commercial is fast forwarded, if only one commercial is fast forwarded, Nielsen doesn’t count the viewer at all.  Also, Nielsen only counts viewers that watch soaps before midnight.  If the show is watched after that, it is not counted.  Now if you factor in how many people watch their favorite soap opera on DVR, if they watch it the next day they aren’t counted…if they watch on soapnet they aren’t counted…if they watch online they aren’t counted, and if they watch it later in the same day and fast forward through a commercial they aren’t counted either.  Can’t anyone see why these daytime shows have shown ratings drop?  I  couldnt count on my hands and toes all the people i know that watch these programs and follow them big time.  Unfortunately they are not counted in these numbers.   One person speculated that only a fourth of the actual viewers are being counted.  I would think it is more like twice the actual Nielsen viewership count.  From what i know, it seems no different from 20 years ago as far as the number of people who watch these soaps.

These ratings DO count DVR viewing. Look at the heading of this report. It says ”Live +Same Day.”  ”Same Day” takes into account viewers who watch their DVR recording within 24 hours. With daytime soaps that’s standard, because there’s an episode five days a week.

  • I went on Soap Opera Central and all soaps had the boards and blogs had people online talking about each soap…Most of the last four on the air had around 100 online talking about their soaps…General Hospital had like 400.  That should tell people that the soaps that skew younger have even a lesser count by Nielsen.  GH  and DAYS has always skewed younger than the other soaps and sometimes they look the worst in the old outdated traditional Nielsen Ratingssssss
