You’ve no doubt devoured the hard cover version of The Young and Restless Life of William J. Bell, the biography detailing the late daytime legend, former talk show host and “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” creator, and now there’s a lighter version you can easily carry to the beach this summer!
With the passing of Jeanne Cooper, many wondered what would happen to the iconic character she portrayed for more than 39 years – that of Katherine Chancellor. In today’s “Tribute to Jeanne Cooper,” Jess Walton (Jill Foster Abbott) announced in the opening segment that the show would address the death of Cooper’s character on screen.
On today’s episode of CBS’ “The Young and the Restless,” cast members, family and friends gathered for a special tribute episode celebrating the life of Jeanne Cooper, who passed away earlier this month at the age of 84. Cooper, the Emmy Award-winning actress who portrayed Katherine Chancellor for more than 39 years, is the show’s longest-running cast member.
With the 40th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards just a couple of weeks away, HLN has released a list of presenters slated to appear and hand over awards at the exciting award show ceremony. Betty White, Steve Harvey, Wayne Brady, Alex Trebek, Todd Newton, Bethany Frankel and Kris Jenner are included, with White and Brady presenting Monty Hall and Bob Stewart, respectively, with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Awards.
In an interview published in the newest issue of Soap Opera Digest, Maria Arena Bell, the former executive producer and head writer of “The Young and the Restless,” shares that the soap submitted episodes #9,999 and #10,000 as part of their Emmy reel in the category of Outstanding Drama Series for the “40th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards.”
“We felt those episodes, being sequential, were the peak of huge story,” she says. The episodes covered the mock funeral of Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and the nonmarriage of Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) and Tucker McCall (Stephen Nichols). The soap submitted episode #9,999 in the category of Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team. In addition to the “Y&R” Emmy nominations, Digest asked Bell what she thought of the “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” reboots.
Monday, May 27 is memorial day and while CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” will air original episodes (which aren’t expected to count in the weekly Nielsen ratings), NBC’s “Days of our Lives” will be preempted for coverage of the French Open, while ABC’s “General Hospital” will air the real 50th Anniversary episode, which actually aired on Tuesday, April 2 after a March preemption pushed scheduling back a day (“GH” premiered on April 1, 1963). “All My Children” will air an original episode as the series is available exclusively on the internet and doesn’t abide by holiday preemptions.
With a first airdate set for Monday, July 8, a CBS spokesperson has confirmed to Soap Opera Network that Camryn Grimes is returning to “The Young and the Restless.” The actress began filming her first scenes earlier today, details of which are being kept quiet. It is unclear at this time as to whether Grimes will be reprising her role of Cassie Newman on the show, either alive or as a ghost, or if she’ll be portraying a brand new character.
When it comes to titles, “The Young and the Restless’” Kristoff St. John (Neil Winters) is no stranger. He’s been called a heartthrob, an Emmy nominee, an Emmy winner, and even the “Denzel of Daytime.” The latter of which actually makes the New York native kind of blush! “That’s just a moniker for having staying power and lasting power in this medium,” he says with modesty of the Denzel Washington comparison. “I’m one of the longest running African American males on daytime, so I think that statement is more in honor of that.”

“Every single time, without a doubt, Jess would react, and Jeanne would just laugh and laugh and laugh — and that’s one of the things about Jeanne that I loved the most.”
