BREAKDOWN

It’s been months since fans last saw Jacob Young on CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful,” a result of the actor being dropped to recurring status with the drama series earlier this year, and now comes word that the relationship between the dashing Rick Forrester and Maya Avant (Karla Mosley) is also caput.

In response to a Soap Opera Digest report teasing what’s to come as 2018 closes out to make room for 2019, Young said on Twitter, “I for one am incredibly sad and disappointed” over the breakup of the history-making couple. Calling Rick and Maya’s relationship a “love that would never die,” Young added, “I loved working with @karlamosley. It has been the highlight of my 21 year career in daytime.”

In story, Maya is the closest daytime character in which a soap opera has ever come to telling a captivating tale of one’s transition from male to female. Played by cis-gendered Mosley, Maya was born with male genitalia and had previously gone by the name Myron. The reveal occurred in April 2015, four months before Rick and Maya were married in front of friends and family on the show. The couple share a daughter, Lizzy, birthed via surrogacy by Maya’s sister, Nicole.

Fans may have noticed a Rick-less Maya in a photographic tease for the Christmas Eve episode of “B&B.” In it, Maya is seen alongside her family at the Forrester mansion celebrating the holidays without Rick. At the time it wasn’t clear if the show had not asked Young to appear, but now its clear that his absence was storyline dictated.

If fans have any hope of reversing course with the couple by the powers that be (TPTB), Young says, “TRUST ME when I say your opinion matters.”
