In honor of today’s episode of “The Bold and the Beautiful,” in which Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) addressed the dangers of distracted driving with her son, R.J (Anthony Turpel), and his girlfriend, Coco (Courtney Grosbeck), after the two were involved in a car accident caused by texting while driving, the CBS Daytime drama series released a “CBS Cares” PSA featuring Lang, filmed in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation. The PSA encourages viewers to visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website to learn how to join in the fight to save lives by ending distracted driving, which kills or injures hundreds of thousands of Americans each year.

“‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ has been weaving socially conscious issues into the fabric of our storyline since our debut in 1987,” said Head Writer and Executive Producer Bradley Bell, in a statement. “Texting while driving is a serious and problematic trend that is on the rise, not just with millennials, but also with adults. We thought that the time was right to share this important story and the possible consequences distracted driving may have with our viewers.”

“Teen distraction is a deadly problem in the U.S., and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is thrilled to work with CBS to get this message to the public in such a creative way,” said Susan Gorcowski, Associate Administrator of Communications and Consumer Information, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. “R.J. and Coco’s storyline really captures the danger of texting behind the wheel and the emotional toll it has on loved ones.”
