(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — ABC and CBS serials compete for top writing honors.

Every year since 1949, The Writers Guild of America has awarded the best in scripted media. In 2010, writers will be rewarded for their work in movies (screenplays), television (primetime and daytime), radio, news, promotional writing, and graphic animation. For most of these categories, the WGA committee will just look at raw scripts in both choosing the nominees and picking the winners. Over the past several years, CBS’s “As the World Turns” and “The Young and the Restless” have alternated WGA wins for Outstanding Achievement in a Daytime Serial  and are among the 2010 WGA nominees in the category. The 2010 WGA nominees for Outstanding Achievement in a Daytime Serial, which awards scripts that aired between October 1, 2008 and September 30, 2009, are as follows:

  • All My Children (ABC) Written by Jeff Beldner, Joanna Cohen, Kate Hall, Chip Hayes, Michelle Patrick, Charles Pratt, Jr., Rebecca Taylor, Tracey Thomson and Addie Walsh.
  • As the World Turns (CBS) Written by Peter Brash, Lisa Connor, Susan Dansby, Cheryl L. Davis, Leah Laiman, David A. Levinson, Leslie Nipkow, Jean Passanante, Gordon Rayfield and Courtney Simon.
  • One Life to Live (ABC) Written by Shelly Altman, Ron Carlivati, Anna Theresa Cascio, Aida Croal, Carolyn Culliton, Janet Iacobuzio, Frederick Johnson, Sharon Lennon, Elizabeth Page, Melissa Salmons, Katherine Schock, Scott Sickles and Chris Van Etten.

The actual episodes that were submitted for consideration for the four soaps are not known at the moment. Once we get those details, we’ll update the readers of Soap Opera Network.

The 2010 Writers Guild Awards will take place in Los Angeles and New York on February 20, 2010. For a complete list of the 2010 WGA Award nominees visit http://www.wga.org.
