‘One Life’ Expands African American Family

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — “One Life to Live” adds more diversity to its rather large cast with the addition of Phylicia and Richard Evans.

What started out with Shaun, then a bodyguard to tough guy Vincent Jones back in 2007, eventually developed into the ever-growing Evans family, complete with siblings Destiny and Greg. Now we can add their mother and father to that list.

As SON first reported, “OLTL” recently released audition scripts for the roles of Mr. and Mrs. Evans, both of which are said to become recurring characters on the show’s canvas this fall.

Now, roughly a week after the casting calls were first announced, Soap Opera Digest is reporting that both roles have been cast. Set to portray Greg, Shaun, and Destiny’s mother Phylicia is actress Tonye Patano. She is best known for her role as Heyila James on the Showtime series “Weeds” from 2005-2007. In addition, the actress has appeared in a number of primetime series, including “Eli Stone,” Law & Order: SVU,” “Monk,” and “Now and Again.”

Playing father Richard Evans will be veteran actor Frankie Faison, who portrayed Frank Dawson on “All My Children” from 1998-99. Faison’s other credits include “True Colors,” “The Silence of the Lambs,” “The Wire,” “Maximum Overdrive,” and Tyler Perry’s “Meet the Brows.”

Look for Patano and Faison to first air as Phylicia and Richard Evans on Tuesday, September 10th.

“One Life to Live” airs Weekdays on ABC. Weeknights on SOAPnet. Check local listings.
