The Talk

With ABC becoming full owner of "The View," after buying out Barbara Walters' stake over the summer, the network announced today that the daytime talker will now fall under the purview of ABC News after more than 17 years under the entertainment division, this despite a drastic makeover this fall with the inclusion of three new hosts joining Whoopi Goldberg on the panel. With the talk show now falling under the umbrella of the news division, “General Hospital" and "The Chew" remain the only entertainment programming airing during the daytime on the network.
As we previously reported, “The Price Is Right” recently launched a nationwide male model search, and all of the excitement has culminated into a web series in which America can view and later vote on the final contestants hoping to follow in the footsteps of former model Robert Scott Wilson (Ben Rogers, “Days of our Lives;” ex-Pete Cortlandt, “All My Children”). Hundreds of young men auditioned with the dream of winning the week-long modeling contract with the game show, but only 30 made it to Round One of the web series — which aired its first episode today!
The newest cast members of “The Young and the Restless” Scott Elrod (Joe Clark), Justin Hartley (Adam Newman), Burgess Jenkins (Billy Abbott) and Gina Tognoni (Phyllis Summers) joined co-hosts Sheryl Underwood, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Aisha Tyler and Julie Chen, along with guest co-host Pat Harvey, on today's edition of CBS' "The Talk" as the actors discussed some of the exciting new storylines in store for their characters and much more!
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy: “The Price Is Right” has launched a national male model search of epic proportions! After sorting through hundreds of hopefuls found online and at casting calls in Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Dallas and Spartanburg, South Carolina, the show asked 30 young men to come on down and compete to win a one-week modeling contract. The kicker: All of the excitement will be shown to fans via a special five-episode, reality-style web elimination series that begins next week!
On Friday, October 24, "The Young and the Restless'" newest stars, Scott Elrod (Joe Clark), Justin Hartley (Adam Newman), Burgess Jenkins (Billy Abbott) and Gina Tognoni (Phyllis Summers), will be appearing on CBS' "The Talk" to discuss their joining daytime's most watched drama series. The actors are expected to provide some insight into their characters and what life has been like since entering Genoa City.
As previously reported, everyone loves CBS' "The Young and the Restless" and the year-to-year growth in Total Viewers, Women 25-54 and Women 18-49 during the week of October 6-10, 2014 continues to prove that point. In addition to "Y&R," CBS is experiencing overall growth with "The Bold and the Beautiful," "The Price is Right," "Let's Make a Deal" and "The Talk." In the case of "B&B," the soap is seeing plenty of women enjoying the storyline surrounding Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) and Caroline Spencer Forrester (Linsey Godfrey) along with the happenings of Hope Logan (Kim Matula) following the recent revelation that she's with child after a recent romp with one of the Spencer brothers. The soap is up 23% in Women 25-54 and 38% in Women 18-49 compared to the same week last year.

Each Monday, we plan to publish our weekly Daytime Ratings Report, which covers the broadcast soaps, game shows and talk shows. Unfortunately, due to an arm injury I sustained last Thursday, my typing skills have been put to the test and the report was delayed. Alas, I'm feeling a lot less pain than I did for much of the past week so here now is the daytime ratings report for the week of September 29-October 3, 2014. Better late than never, right? This week we highlight how the broadcast shows ranked overall in Total Viewers, Men 18+, Adults 18-49 and Median Age.
On Thursday, September 25, Soap Opera Network reported that CBS completed its 28th year as the most watched network in daytime with its highly ranked lineup consisting of soap operas "The Young and the Restless" and "The Bold and the Beautiful," game shows "The Price is Right" and "Let's Make a Deal," and growing talker "The Talk." In honor of their continued success the network has bestowed upon the cast and crews of each program a plaque that highlights key reasons everyone watches CBS Daytime.

In another smart move of cross promotion, CBS is sending two “The Talk” hosts to its primetime lineup: Sharon Osbourne will be appearing on “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” and Aisha Tyler will be appearing on “Two and a Half Men!”
As Soap Opera Network gets ready to celebrate its 13th anniversary on Wednesday, October 8, we are proud to announce that we will begin providing our readers with weekly ratings reports for not just the daytime soaps, but also talk shows "The Chew," "The Talk," "The View," "The Today Show 2" and "The Today Show 3," as well as game shows "Let's Make a Deal" and "The Price is Right," along with the previously reported ratings for "The Young and the Restless," "Days of our Lives," "General Hospital" and "The Bold and the Beautiful." The charts, which will vary week to week, does not take away from the weekly daytime drama rankings we will continue posting each week, but instead represents what daytime programming as a whole looks like when compared with one another and not based solely on genre.
