One Life to Live

“One Life to Live’s” Jonathan Groff (ex-Henry) has been one busy man: In addition to starring in a new HBO comedy alongside “Guiding Light’s” Murray Bartlett (ex-Cyrus Foley), the “Glee” star has also landed a job as a lead voice in Disney’s new animated feature, “Frozen!”
It’s raining soap stars over at HBO now that the premium cable network has picked up Michael Lannan’s untitled comedy pilot starring Jonathan Groff (ex-Henry, “One Life to Live;” Jesse St. James, “Glee”), Murray Bartlett (ex-Cyrus Foley, “Guiding Light;” James Brogan, “Headland”), as well as Frankie Alvarez (“Kitchen Confidential”).
Though the official announcement of FOX’s fall schedule won’t be happening until Monday, the network has released a sneak peek of the new programming it has picked up and plans to air near the end of the year. And it looks like “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” a comedy starring “One Life to Live’s” Melissa Fumero (ex-Adriana Cramer) made the cut! Read on for details on that as well as the three other comedies and five dramas Fox has given teasers for!
In a growing list of popular artists appearing on or performing in episodes of "All My Children" and "One Life to Live," including Hot Chelle Rae on today's "AMC," The OnLine Network has announced that multi-platinum recording artist Jason Derulo will perform on the soaps Wednesday, July 3 episode. The episode finds the artist appearing as himself singing his new single "The Other Side" after receiving an invite to perform as part of a gala event hosted by Brooke English (Julia Barr).
In a new video released today via Yahoo! TV, The OnLine Network honors the men of Llanview, Pennsylvania ("One Life to Live") which includes shedding new light on David Vickers (as played by Tuc Watkins), introductions to Jeffrey King (Corbin Bleu), and the evolution of Bo and Clint Buchanan (Robert S. Woods and Jerry verDorn), respectively. Of course, there's some insight into Cutter Wentworth (Josh Kelly) as well.
If you thought Alicia Minshew brought some serious drama as “All My Children’s” Kendall Hart Slater, you haven’t seen anything yet! The petite actress has served up quite a large performance as Aunt Toniann in Broadway’s “My Big Gay Italian Wedding,” and there’s only one more chance to catch it!
News that “The Young and the Restless’” Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor) passed away this morning has rocked the entertainment community, and the beloved actress’ colleagues have responded with an outpour of memories, loving words and final farewells via Twitter. Soap Opera Network has rounded up all of the sentiments written so far, which include kind words from her “Y&R” co-stars and beyond.
With the returns of Roger Howarth, Kristen Alderson and Michael Easton (as new characters whose names are currently unconfirmed by ABC, although at present we're hearing the character name "Jordan" for Alderson) to the Port Charles canvas and the debut of Maura West as Ava Jerome (first airdate scheduled for Wednesday, May 8), the drama is only getting hotter on ABC's "General Hospital" this week.
Before "One Life to Live" returned on Monday, April 29 via Hulu, Hulu Plus and iTunes, we last saw Cutter Wentworth on a phone call while in prison on the ABC incarnation back in January 2012. So how did he get out and get some Shelter at Blair Cramer's (Kassie DePaiva) new nightclub? "You mean in a TV show people can't come back from things worse than jail?" jokingly said Cutter's portrayer, Josh Kelly, during a recent interview with Soap Opera Network. "A lot of people get out of prison, and on a TV show it can happen even easier. People come back from the dead!" the actor noted.
When "One Life to Live" went off the air just over a year ago it was my favorite daily drama and it had been for quite some time. So, while the show’s ratings were rising, it was quite a shock to learn it had been canceled in 2011. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous with the series coming back, but this time without executive producer Frank Valentini and head writer Ron Carlivati.
The OnLine Network released the following breakdown showing how popular "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" were during their debut week on Hulu and iTunes.
The OnLine Network Previews Week Four of "One Life to Live," which premieres with new episodes weekdays on Hulu, Hulu Plus and iTunes, and FX Canada for Canadian viewers.
"Another World" and "Sunset Beach" were canceled in 1999, "Port Charles" in 2003, and "Passions" in 2007 (NBC version) and again in 2008 (DirecTV version). In 2009, "Guiding Light" got turned off and in 2010 "As The World Turns" just stopped. 2011 then brought the double cancellations of "All My Children" and "One Life to Live." As a result of 8 soap operas being cancelled within a 12 year span, one would have expected 2012 to end with another soap saying goodbye. Thankfully, the year came and went without a single soap cancellation for the first time in five years. Now with the 2013 resurrection of "AMC" and "OLTL," soaps are no longer "dying" and the genre is finally thriving once more. But, if you're like us, you never forget your soap opera history. Enter "Soap Life," a documentary that follows the rise and fall of American soap operas before the genres recent re-birth.
