TVGN is proving why it’s now the “the new way to watch soaps.” With the network already picking up encore airing rights to “The Young and the Restless” this past summer, and “The Bold and the Beautiful” earlier this month, the network plans to provide soap fans with even more “soap” for their viewing pleasure courtesy of the new documentary, “Who Shot the Daytime Soap?” Airing Monday, December 16 at 8:00 PM ET/PT, preceded by airings of “B&B” at 6:30 PM ET/PT and “Y&R” at 7:00 PM ET/PT, the documentary tackles the history of daytime soap operas as told by those who were there during the good times, the bad times and the new times.

“The past five years have seen a collapse of epic proportion within the soap opera industry. What was once a formidable lineup of no less than 14 network soap operas in the 1980′s has collapsed to just four – ‘General Hospital’ on ABC, ‘Days of our Lives’ on NBC and ‘The Young and the Restless’ and ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ on CBS and now TVGN,” is the opening statement from the documentary that features interviews with several daytime legends, veteran stars, and a host of talents from behind the scenes that have helped make the soap opera genre the longest running form of television entertainment.

CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” is in a celebratory mood as the soap is enjoying 25 consecutive years as daytime television’s most watched drama series. As part of its continued success, the soap is also enjoying its best season average in total viewers since the 2011-2012 television season. To show their appreciation to fans for their support, cast and crew took the time to pose with a banner that states: “The Young and the Restless: #1 For 25 Years.” To honor this feet, Soap Opera Network has gathered all the images published on social media for your one stop viewing pleasure.

As previously reported, Tristan Rogers will soon be departing ABC’s “General Hospital” after his most recent stint as Robert Scorpio comes to an end. With his pending return to CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” in the new year, Rogers recently announced on Twitter his final film date at “GH” and his first film date back at “Y&R.”

While announcing his plans to vacation in Australia during the Christmas holiday break, Rogers revealed that he films his last scenes at “GH” on Thursday, December 19 and will begin filming scenes as his “Y&R” character, Colin Atkinson, beginning Wednesday, January 8. Viewers should expect to see the actor continue airing on “GH” through at least February, as noted by head writer Ron Carlivati. A first airdate on “Y&R” is not yet known. “I am passionate about daytime drama. Where ever I work. I want to do the best I can. So lets be bipartisan and support the genre,” said Rogers on moving from one soap to another.

As playwright Oscar Wilde once said, true friends stab you in the front. And so begins the inevitable downward spiral between “The Young and the Restless” besties Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan), two female characters who’ve become a daytime rarity — true best friends — and whose recent storyline is setting the pair up to potentially take a serious fall. Will the recent death of Chloe’s daughter, Delia, followed by the heart wrenching transplant of the little girl’s corneas to Chelsea’s infant son, Conner, followed by the possible news that Conner’s father, Adam (Michael Muhney) is responsible for Delia’s death end up tearing the best friends apart? Soap Opera Network spoke with both Egan and Hendrickson for the scoop!

Things haven’t exactly been funny over in “The Young and the Restless’” Genoa City as of late, which made CBS’ recent Daytime After Dark standup comedy event all the more needed — for fans and the actors, alike! Soap Opera Network caught up with Peter Bergman at the event, and he not only spilled details on the one thing that terrifies him, but also on who he thinks is the worst father in the world (Hint: It’s probably exactly who you think it is!). Read on for the comedy — and the drama!

Soap Opera Network: Did I just overhear you say that you would never, ever want to try standup comedy?

Peter Bergman: Nothing would terrify me more! What I think is funny and what you think is funny are probably two very different things, and the idea of just throwing my stuff out there thinking, “Well, this is funny,” and waiting for your reaction is, oh my god scary!

Goblins and witches and ghosts, oh my! And no, we’re not talking about the millions of children who’ll be cavorting around as such on All Hallow’s Eve next week. We’re talking about the stars of “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “The Young and the Restless,” “The Price Is Right,” “The Talk” and “Let’s Make a Deal,” as all five shows are featuring Halloween themed episodes on Thursday, October 31, complete with fun and creepy costumes!

“Y&R’s” spooktacular episode sees Faith visiting her grandfather, Victor (Eric Braeden), while she tricks or treats her dad, Nick (Joshua Morrow). But the fun really starts when Avery (Jessica Collins) confronts Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) about a life-changing secret may have planned on taking to the grave! Meanwhile, Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and Adam (Michael Muhney) reunite as they await information regarding their son’s health, and Billy (Billy Miller) mourns for Delia during his first Halloween without his newly deceased daughter.

Over at “B&B,” lovers Bill (Don Diamont) and Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) take a step back from their mountain climbing excursion in Aspen for some sinful All Hallow’s Eve lovin’ — complete with a “bare” costume sure to set Bill growling!

Anyone who’s watched the past few days of “The Young and the Restless” knows that it has been heart wrenching, to say the least. The hit-and-run accident that caused the death of Billy and Chloe’s young daughter, Delia, has been center stage, and the performances that have gone along with the emotional storyline are what Emmy dreams are made of. We caught up with Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea Newman), who not only had plenty of kudos for her onscreen best friend, Elizabeth Hendrickson, but also had a few details as to how the tragic story will affect Chelsea… and beyond.
