Another day, another drama. At least, that seems to be the case for “The Young and the Restless’” Paul Williams (Doug Davidson), who is juggling so many Genoa City cases as Chief of Police, it’s tough to keep all of the details straight! His onscreen wife, Christine (Lauralee Bell), isn’t exactly thrilled that her new hubby is so busy, especially because he took the time to help Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) track down the truth about her son, Dylan (Steve Burton). And unfortunately for her, it looks like Paul’s busy schedule won’t be letting up any time soon! We spoke with the character’s portrayer, Davidson, to get the scoop on whether or not Paul’s work will destroy his relationship and where Nikki might fit into the puzzle. Read on to find out!

The recent behind-the-scenes drama over at “The Young and the Restless” has created quite a storm, but a little bit of sunshine broke through the clouds today when CBS announced it has renewed the 40-year-old soap opera through 2017. Fans of the show have taken to Twitter to congratulate the cast and crew, and they’re not alone in the celebration: The actors are also thrilled that the sudser they call home received the official extension.

“This is amazing news!” Daniel Goddard (Cane) tweeted. “You, our amazing fans, will get to enjoy ‘Y&R’ for years to come!”

With “The Young and the Restless” losing its leading men in a one-two punch, as both Billy Miller (Billy Abbott) and Michael Muhney (Adam Newman) filmed their last scenes on Thursday, December 19, cast and crew of daytime’s most watched drama series have put together video tributes to honor the departing stars.

First shown during the “Y&R” goodbye party for Miller the same day he filmed his final scenes, Greg Edwards, a production staffer, opted to publish an 11 1/2 minute video dedication on Vimeo “For everyone that either couldn’t make it to the goodbye party last night or that couldn’t hear it on those small speakers we had.” In his message, Edwards added, “Goodbye Billy, you will be missed.” The video includes several cast and crew members initially pretending to not know who Miller was, even as a life sized cut out poster of the actor holding one of his Emmy Awards roamed the halls and stages of the soap behind them. Later, co-stars Greg Rikaart (Keven Fisher), Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea Lawson), Tracey E. Bregman (Lauren Fenmore), Christian LeBlanc (Michael Baldwin), Doug Davidson (Paul Williams), Lauralee Bell (Christine Blair), Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott), Christel Khalil (Lily Winters Ashby), Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman), Amelia Heinle (Victoria Newman Abbott), and Jess Walton (Jill Abbott), along with many others, shared their most heartfelt thoughts and memories of the actor as he moves toward his next journey in life. One of the most hilarious scenes in the video was by Joshua Morrow (Nicholas Newman), who jokingly said, “Think about all your options. ‘General Hospital’ would love to have you. Any soap would kill to have you! There’s internet, there’s all these cable shows – Nickelodeon – think about it, you’d be huge like a ‘Different Strokes’ remake!” while the cut out  of Miller attempted to commit suicide (it fell off the roof of the CBS building after hearing the things people were saying before the kind words poured in).

The cast and crew of “The Young and the Restless” have a major milestone to smile about: The CBS sudser has officially marked its 25 year anniversary of being the number one rated soap opera on national television! In honor of the very special occasion, Soap Opera Network spoke with longtime castmember Doug Davidson (Paul Williams), who’s been with the show since 1978, to discuss the elements that have gone into keeping “Y&R” in the coveted top-notch position for so long.

Lasting a quarter of a century as the number one show in its genre is quite a feat, and it’s one that Davidson and the rest of the “Y&R” cast and crew credits to creator William J. Bell, who poured his heart and soul into putting together a believable product with a rich cast of characters. “It’s an amazing streak of time [being in the number one spot],” Davidson begins. “It’s been absolutely fabulous and a testament to Bill and what he started 40 years ago. I know that when I was working closely with him, [writing the show was] pretty much all he did. I had visions of him Christmas morning, when his kids were opening packages, taking notes on wrapping paper about what he wanted his characters to do. And I know to some degree, it was very true. I mean, he just wouldn’t stop thinking about it.”

“The Young and the Restless’” Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) is in for a surprise come 2014 in the form of a very unexpected blast from her past: Ian Ward, the former cult leader she knew back in the 80s, is headed to Genoa City!

A show rep confirms that actor Ray Wise begins taping on Friday, December 13, as Ward, whom Nikki met during her time at New World Commune about 30 years ago. As fans now know, Victor’s wife got pregnant during her stay at the NWC, and the child she gave birth to — yet never saw — is town newbie Dylan McAvoy (Steve Burton).

Wise, who’ll be appearing in multiple episodes and working with several “Y&R” actors, is known for his roles on shows like “Twin Peaks,” “24,” “Mad Men” and “How I Met Your Mother.” Watch for his Genoa City debut on Thursday, January 23.

On Tuesday, November 12, “The Young and the Restless’” Jess Walton (Jill Foster Abbott) and Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman) answered fan questions via CBS Connect, the premiere online social connection platform amongst the broadcast networks, which includes live chats with CBS stars via Twitter. Using the hashtag #AskYR, the chat with fans lasted roughly 35 minutes, which included questions varying from discussion on the Veterans day episodes, whether or not the ladies were able to come up with plots or storylines for their characters, which is particularly reserved for the writers of the show, as well as what their very first acting jobs were, just to name a few of the questions.
