How WATCH ABC Changes Will Affect Viewing of ‘GH,’ ‘The View’ and ‘The Chew’; Shows Also on Hulu Plus

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — With today’s news that Prospect Park has officially begun making offers to actors in hopes of them joining “All My Children” 2.0 in time for its January 2012 debut, it’s only fitting to get an insiders perspective on the innerworkings of a canceled soap opera. Cameron Mathison, who portrays the role of Ryan Lavery on the soap, spoke with Soap Opera Network during the “All My Children” Fan Club Weekend and he shed some light on Prospect Park, being a contributor on “Good Morning America” and even dancing on “Dancing with the Stars.”

“What we’ve learned, and I hope I do this justice, is that network television…big corporation television…have got a certain amount of timeslots allowed. So just because ‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’ are off the air doesn’t mean they that it wasn’t a success, it just means in big business, you know… is there something in there that could made more money. There is only one time slot available,” said Mathison giving some insight into the decision to cancel the two soaps. “It doesn’t mean that ‘All My Children’ was a failure, it just simply means that for big business it wasn’t the best fit,” he continued.

You may be asking your self, “how can two soaps that weren’t ‘the best fit’ for broadcast television turn in a better profit for another company or find any type of success online?” While Mathison may not know the full answer to that question, he does help shed some light for those questioning the difference between an online series and one made available to you free over broadcast channels.

“This entrepreneurial company [Prospect Park], they don’t have the same restrictions that network television has. You can watch the show, any show, whatever you want with different types of advertising. I mean I don’t know the in’s and out’s of it, but I just know far fewer restrictions and I think because of that and because there is a daily production here that it’s a really a good fit. From what I understand, and again I don’t want to pretend I know more than I do, because I really don’t, but I do know that just because it came off the air on ABC it doesn’t mean that it wasn’t doing well. Apparently, they were still making good money, but they could make a lot more.”

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) – Jacob Young is returning to the soap that started his daytime career back in 1997. This fall the Daytime Emmy Award winner will reprise the role of Eric Forrester (John McCook) and Brooke Logan’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) son, Rick Forrester, on the CBS daytime drama “The Bold and the Beautiful.”

Four months after it was announced that “All My Children” would be ending its run on ABC in September and just a month after learning that Prospect Park, a 2-year-old production company, had picked up the show as part of its yet-to-be-named infotainment network set for a January launch, Young (JR Chandler on “AMC”) has become the second actor to bolt the daytime drama series. The first being Debbi Morgan (Angie Hubbard), who is heading to “The Young and the Restless” later this fall.

In an interview with TV Guide Magazine‘s Michael Logan, Young reveals that he will be returning on screen to “B&B” beginning Monday, September 26, which will also mark the first time in 41-years that “All My Children” was not on the regularly scheduled ABC Daytime lineup. “The Chew” replaces “AMC” on this date.

“When I started talking to ‘B&B’ I didn’t think it would happen so fast. But I guess it’s good that way. I was looking forward to wrapping up ‘AMC’ and having a bit of a hiatus, maybe a month or two to travel with my family,” said Young. “As it turns out, I’ll probably have my ‘AMC’ and ‘B&B’ schedules overlapping and be shooting both shows at the same time. I’m like, ‘You guys figure it out and point me in the right direction.’”

Although he hopes the deal with Prospect Park and “AMC” can come together even without him and Morgan, like many of his co-stars Young is concerned about the hiatus between the soap ending on ABC and taking off on the internet. Young thinks a January 16 debut is an optimistic time table for when “AMC” could end up back on the air considering the facts of the situation so far. His advice to his co-stars in the meantime is “to get out there in the business and see what’s crackin’. Anybody with common sense would do that.”

With Prospect Park yet to confirm details of when “AMC” will pick up production due to union issues, the company has been unable to reach out to actors to try and iron out contracts, leaving an actor exodus a strong possibility before the online version of the soap even debuts. Interestingly enough, news of Young heading back to “B&B” comes on the heals of that soap returning from a three week production hiatus.

In an interview with Soap Opera Network during the “All My Children” Fan Club Weekend, Young shared his hopes for fans who would continue with the show online and where he sees his character as the show comes to a close on ABC.

Young put the character of Rick Forrester on the map on “B&B” from 1997 to 1999. The role was last played by Kyle Lowder (ex-Brady, “Days of Our Lives) in 2011. Young moved on to ABC’s “General Hospital” as Lucky Spencer, the son of Luke and Laura Spencer (Anthony Geary and Genie Francis), from 2000 to 2003. Keeping a track record of playing the son of some of daytime’s most important characters, in 2003, Young landed the role of Adam Chandler (David Canary) and Dixie Cooney’s (Cady McClain) son JR Chandler on “AMC.” That role had previously been played to much acclaim by Jesse McCartney.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — When rumors began swirling back in June over the possible returns of Deidre Hall, Drake Hogestyn, Christie Clark and even Patrick Muldoon to NBC’s “Days of our Lives,” there was one other name on the list that unfortunately didn’t make it from rumorville to the confirmation stage weeks later. That name was Bryan Dattilo.

Two months after the rumors first surfaced, fans have taken to Twitter to question “DAYS” cast members, writers and even soap opera publications, including Soap Opera Network, about their favorite actor and whether or not there are plans to return Dattilo’s character, Lucas Horton, to Salem now that some of Salem’s other popular characters and actors have returned.

A “DAYS” representative has finally set the record straight by stating that although the show is aware of fan interest in the actor and character and that “everyone wants him back”, there are “as of now no plans” to return the character or actor to the canvas.



Soap Opera Network

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — Honestly, the title sounds more interesting than what is actually happening. Later this evening, Soap Opera Network will be migrating to a new service provider that promises better and faster service than we’ve ever received in the (almost) 10 years we’ve been online. What that means is that we will not be posting new content on the site, including our message boards, after 8:00 PM ET/5:00 PM PT. The transition should be short and quick without any real interruption in service. In fact, everything will be so fast that we do not expect any issues with propagation (if you are wondering what that means, see below).

Propagation
The process whereby the name servers throughout the world have updated their records for a specific domain. For example, if you move your domain from one host to another, it will take around 24 hours or so for the new address to broadcast everywhere. During that 24 hour period, the traffic is decreasing at the old location and increasing at the new location.

Additionally, beginning tomorrow we will be launching our new website on our faster server and will begin loading the content that had been previously promised, but hadn’t been seen. We apologise for not having it up when necessary, but things happen and all you can do is roll with the punches as they say.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — While “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” were receiving worldwide attention after it was announced that ABC had decided be cancel both series on the afternoon of what is now known as Black Thursday (April 14), magazine publisher Source Interlink quietly made noise of its own that very morning when it announced it would be laying off more than half of its employees working on popular magazines Soap Opera Digest and Soap Opera Weekly. Now comes word that the company, which handed over editorial, advertising, marketing and distribution control of the magazine’s to American Media, which runs such rags as The National Enquirer, has officially laid off the affected individuals.

In announcing the deal last month, David J. Pecker, Chairman, President and CEO of American Media, Inc. (AMI) said, “This agreement is ideal for American Media as both soap opera titles fit strategically into our entertainment group, which includes Star, National Enquirer, Country Weekly and TV Guide, reaching an audience of 37 million people. Advertising clients will benefit immensely as we will now deliver the most efficient ad buy in the celebrity category for consumers.”

“This transaction will allow our media company to focus on the continued growth and investment in our core enthusiast brands, while positioning our sales and services company, to focus on its long-term vision of fully capitalizing on the vertical integration of our wholesale magazine distribution assets,” noted Michael L. Sullivan, President & CEO, Source Interlink Companies. “American Media understands and values our history and commitment to the entertainment category, through our soap titles. Given the synergies in their demographic audience, this license agreement will allow AMI to support these titles moving forward where they will continue to provide an exciting and relevant product for our dedicated consumers. We are pleased to have identified the right partner and are confident that our soap titles are in good hands.”

While there is no word yet on who the magazines were forced to lay off, Soap Opera Network has learned that the announcement was made earlier this week. Just another sign that the economy is a bust. We wish those affected good luck in all their future endeavors.
