Best known for helming CBS' "Love of Life" for nearly three decades, veteran daytime director Larry Auerbach died on Saturday, December 20 in La Jolla, California from complications of glioblastoma. He was 91 years old.

Ann Marcus, who was the head writer of NBC's "Days of our Lives" from 1977 to 1979, and received two Daytime Emmy Award nominations for her work on the soap, has died. Marcus died in her Sherman Oaks home at the age of 93 on Wednesday, December 3.

It's official: "Days of Our Lives" is the winner of Parade Magazine's "Soap Opera Showdown!" As we reported yesterday, Parade held a four-round tournament this week where fans could vote for their favorite soap opera to advance to the next round. "DAYS" defeated "Love of Life," "The Bold and the Beautiful," and "Guiding Light" to advance to the finals yesterday.

TVGN is proving why it's now the "the new way to watch soaps." With the network already picking up encore airing rights to "The Young and the Restless" this past summer, and "The Bold and the Beautiful" earlier this month, the network plans to provide soap fans with even more "soap" for their viewing pleasure courtesy of the new documentary, "Who Shot the Daytime Soap?" Airing Monday, December 16 at 8:00 PM ET/PT, preceded by airings of “B&B” at 6:30 PM ET/PT and “Y&R” at 7:00 PM ET/PT, the documentary tackles the history of daytime soap operas as told by those who were there during the good times, the bad times and the new times.

On Saturday, November 17, 2012, Gene Bua ("Somerset," "Love of Life" and "How To Survive a Marriage") passed away after battling Parkinson's disease for the past 13 years according to a posting on the actor and his wife Toni's website Bua Acting for Life. "The great Master Teacher and my hero and Lion King for 47 years, Gene Bua, passed into the Light on Sat. Nov. 17th at 1:40, after battling 13 years of Parkinson's and yet still going on to teach, write songs, be a mighty friend, and enjoy much of his life. I am surrounded by his power, love and radiance as I walk through these coming days with as much Grace as God will allow me. Very much love to you all," said Mrs. Bua of her husband on the website.
