This week on "The Young and the Restless" marks the first full week following the dramatic exits of popular actors Billy Miller and Michael Muhney as their characters, Billy Abbott and Adam Newman, respectively, seemingly perished after the vehicle they were in flipped over and exploded. This immediately followed Billy's battle to get Adam to reveal the truth of his supposed involvement in the tragic death of Billy's daughter, Delia. While Adam appears to have disappeared following the accident, Billy eventually survives and is now being portrayed once again by David Tom beginning with today's episode.
On Monday, February 3, CBS' "The Young and the Restless" welcomes actor David Tom back into the role of Billy Abbott. The actor, who last appeared on the soap as teenaged version of the character in August 2002, replaces Billy Miller, who opted to depart the series in order to pursue other projects.
With many casting changes in place and new faces set to arrive in Genoa City, the next few weeks on “The Young and the Restless” may be a bit of a flurry. But no worries, because Soap Opera Network has got all the upcoming casting deets right here in one handy-dandy reference place!
In an exclusive interview with TV Guide's Michael Logan, "The Young and the Restless'" David Tom reveals that he had to audition for the role of Billy Abbott when the series was looking to recast the character when contract talks between current portrayer Billy Miller and Sony Pictures Television proved to be unsuccessful. This was despite the fact that Tom garnered two Daytime Emmy Award nominations in the category of Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series in 2000 and 2001 (he won in 2000) for his portrayal of the character.
With "The Young and the Restless" losing its leading men in a one-two punch, as both Billy Miller (Billy Abbott) and Michael Muhney (Adam Newman) filmed their last scenes on Thursday, December 19, cast and crew of daytime's most watched drama series have put together video tributes to honor the departing stars.
Despite signing a new four-year contract with CBS' "The Young and the Restless" back in April of this year, Michael Muhney (Adam Newman) has been let go from the daytime soap he's called home since 2009. The actor tweeted yesterday, "I'm so sorry. It breaks my heart to say this, but I was just let go from Y&R. My last day on set is this Thursday. My last air date will be Jan 30th. I'm going to take some private time with my wife & kids, as I am most concerned for their well-being. I have 3 final episodes to film, and because they are my last, I will be giving it everything I have. More details will follow... #xoxoxo." Prior to the actor's tweet, he hadn't commented on the popular social network site since November 5. In a posting earlier today, he noted that his daughter, Ella, is celebrating her 6th birthday today.
As previously reported, Billy Miller is departing CBS' "The Young and the Restless" and the role of Billy Abbott, which garnered him two Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. After the actor and Sony Pictures Television failed to reach an agreement on a new contract, the studio and CBS opted to replace Miller with David Tom, who actually originated the role of an adult Billy Abbott in 1999.
With Billy Miller unable to reach a new deal with Sony Pictures Television, CBS' "The Young and the Restless" will soon say goodbye to the actor and hello again to David Tom, who originated the role of an adult Billy Abbott in 1999. News of Miller's exit and Tom's return was first reported by Michael Logan of TV Guide Magazine on Twitter, but has since been confirmed by Angelica McDaniel, Senior Vice President, CBS Daytime, also on Twitter.
