How WATCH ABC Changes Will Affect Viewing of ‘GH,’ ‘The View’ and ‘The Chew’; Shows Also on Hulu Plus

As if tackling daytime soap operas and the Academy Awards wasn’t challenge enough for James Franco (ex-Franco, “General Hospital”), the actor is gearing up to next take on broadway as he’s signed on to make his debut in “Of Mice and Men” next year. Franco will portray George in the production, which is based on the John Steinbeck novel of the same name. The character is one half of two migrant workers looking for employment during the Great Depression. Actor Chris O’Dowd will portray Lennie, the other migrant worker.

Scheduled to begin with preview performances on Wednesday, March 19, the play will officially open on Wednesday, April 16 and will run through Sunday, July 27. Staged at the Longacre Theatere in New York City, tickets will go on sale beginning Saturday, January 11.

“Of Mice and Men” is being produced by David Binder with Anna D. Shapiro serving as director.

According to Deadline Hollywood, “Magic Mike: The Musical” is heading to Broadway. Per the website, producers are actively working to turn the Channing Tatum blockbuster film about male strippers in Florida into a musical with Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey set to write songs, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa signed to write the book for the Broadway version. The film, released in 2012, was directed by Steven Soderbergh, who along with Tatum, Reid Carolin, Gregory Jacobs, and Nick Wechsler serve as producers on the musical.

While Billy Magnussen (ex-Casey Hughes, “As The World Turns”) did not win Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play for his performance as Spike in “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,” the play itself did win in the category of Best Play. Written by Christopher Durang, “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” tells the story of Vanya (David Hyde Piece, “Frasier”) and Sonia (Kristine Nielsen,”Political Animals”) and Masha (Sigourney Weaver, “Political Animals”) and Spike (Magnussen), who together turn a generally quiet household into a standing circus full of intrigue and super fun.

The actress won for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play for her work as Faye in “The Assembled Parties.” The play also stars Jake Silbermann (ex-Noah Mayer, “As The World Turns”) playing the dual role of Scotty/Tim.
