(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- In an explosive turn of events, "The Young and the Restless" has recast the role of Adam Wilson, Victor Newman's son after a rumored falling out with star Chris Engen.

TV Guide Canada's Nelson Branco, in an update to his Sud's Report, broke the news this morning that sources were reporting that Engen had "quit" the CBS drama series after learning that his character would become a potential love interest of co-star Yani Gellman's Rafe Torress.

"He [allegedly] refused to kiss [his same-sex] co-star Yani Gellman [Rafe]. Chris hasn’t been happy for a while. He doesn’t like the dark direction his character is taking. He’s called in sick a lot recently and has been taking a slew of meetings with Y&R’s [top brass] to discuss his future on the show. Chris is still under contract — and Y&R is seriously thinking of taking legal action."

When pressed for comment, Engen's management issued a "no comment."

Taking over for Engen will be daytime newcomer Michael Muhney (prounounced mu-nee). The actor has had an extensive career in primetime via his work on UPN/The CW's "Veronica Mars" as Sheriff Don Lamb and Det. Mark Farrell on USA Network's "The Huntress." In 1999, the actor starred in the short-lived CBS series "Turks."

Muhney posted on his Twitter page that "the new job is the likes of which i have never done...and i get to indulge in some interesting, perverse, warped scenarios..."

At press time a last airdate for Engen had not been scheduled. Muhney's first airdate is scheduled for Thursday, June 25 reports TV Guide.com.

"The Young and the Restless" airs Weekdays on CBS. Weeknights on SOAPnet.

:cry:I am not very pleased that the writer has decided to put man & man together I have watched y&r for over 25 years and if this story line is going to part of the show I will not watch it any more I think it is wrong you are showing out future that its OK and it is not OK to be a man & man or woman & woman and I am bring my children up that way and I am sorry if offended any one but that is my beliefs I quiet watching as the world turns because of that reason y&r was the only one that was worth watching and if you do this then it not going to so I hope you take in every body feelings and not do this story line because I love Y&R I am a faith watcher every night @ 7:00 pm on soap network. I am the one that played Adam took a stand for his beliefs

thank you very much

And what about the portion or "every body" who WOULD like to see themselves represented on television? The truth is that there are a lot of gay male soap viewers out there. I wouldn't apologize for expressing your views though, the fact you have these views is offensive enough. It reminds me that there's still a long way to go before EVERYONE is accepted as EQUALS.

As for your children, I feel sorry for them being raised to be afraid of people different from themselves. You're doing them, and the world at large, no favours. I hope you keep watching the show anyway, and learn from it, and find some understanding for others in it.

Peace

I don't like the story line they have the character of adam going in either. Whenver the episode includes his character, i turn it off. Get on with it already.

Things have changed over the years... I understand belief but if you don't watch it oh well I am sure they won't be heart broken over that. If people don't see that women and women and men and men is a part of the world now they need to open their eyes. We are in a different Generation and this should be allow. I am not a female with a female but I think whatever you want to do is alright. Your NOT them and you don't know how they fell or been in there shoes to see what is going on. For people to be so closed minded is so rude. People talk about how God wouldn't like that but hey I am sure God wouldn't like that your not allowing his children to be how they are. This is just a storyline in a soap show, but this is real life. It happens, this is how REAL LIFE is, and sure if an actor doesn't want to play that part he/she can choice not too. This is suppose to be a free country but when someone like you comes on here and state your beliefs how this shouldn't be on TV because you didn't raise YOUR kids like that or whatever is plain RUDE. You can have you beliefs all you want and to make your kids or anyone else have to go by it is not right at all. Sorry that you were raised like that but hopefully one day you or whoever else can be a little bit more open minded and understand that the WORLD has changed. I am sure that you will see more women and women and men and men together on TV. What will you do then? Not allow you kids to watch TV? This is long but when I see or hear things like that is fustrates me. You can't help WHO you fall in love with. This is my "BELIEFS."

I am 72 years old and wasn't brought up in these times but we are making discoveries now that were never talked about in the open before. Oprah had a show called Intersex that made people realize that babies are born with different genes and chromosomes and cannot help that at all. This isn't something that someone just makes up in their MIND! It is the way their body is made on the inside. It isn't something that is 'decided' as people seem to think. Just like babies being born stuck together and with three legs etc etc. These unexplainable things just happen. It isn't something to be 'for' or 'against'....it's just how we are made. So get over your 'religious' attitude. If you really ARE religious, you wouldn't be sitting in judgement of everyone else. Only God can judge us. Teach your children what it's REALLY all about!!! Don't be so narrow minded and look into some of these new discovered physical things that we are just finding out about now!

Sounds like an oxymoron. Do we really need more gay stuff on TV? Is it really life threatening if as actor says he disagrees with the storey line? Are the writers the "morale" Nazi's for the nation. You must agree with us or we will attack you. Sounds like the Progressives have chipped away at our freedom some more.

Good for Chris! I have watched Y&R for years, and the gay scene between Adam and Rafe was disgusting! I am not interested in watching Y&R anymore. Chris stood his ground, and I don't blame him one bit for quitting. I wouldn't have done a gay storyline either!!!!
