(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- What would a year end chart be without a look back at who hogged the most airtime in all of 2008?

As the year 2008 came to a close, so did a years worth of tracking appearances of contract and recurring actors on daytime's remaining eight soap operas. "General Hospital's" Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and "The Bold and the Beautiful's" Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke Logan Forrester) top the list of appearances in 2008 as the duo appeared in 224 and 222 out of the 253 episodes of soap opera produced last year.

ABC: As daytime's most overexposed network, for the second year running, the network of "All My Children," "General Hospital," and "One Life to Live" held down 16.5 positions in the Top 20 Airhogs list. Yes, 16.5! (Two actresses played one of our top airhogs, don't you know). "GH" and its star Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) led the wave as the soap had eight airhogs in the 2008 Top 20. "AMC" was a close second with 7.5 airhogs. In total, ABC clogged up the airwaves with 23.5 actors in the Top 30.

CBS: The network with the most balance, CBS was led by "The Bold and the Beautiful" goddess Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke Logan Forrester) and "The Young and the Restless'" Eric Braeden, who ranked #14 on the list as Victor Newman appeared in 177 episodes of the drama series. Unfortunately, no "As The World Turns" or "Guiding Light" actor appeared in the Top 30, which excludes them from ranking. However, congratulations goes out to the two for having balance within their cast despite budget constraints effecting daytime as a whole. Had they ranked, they would have been led by Maura West (Carly Snyder, "ATWT") and Marcy Rylan (Lizzie Spaulding, "GL"), who appeared in 147 and 145 out of 253 episodes, respectively.

NBC: With only one soap left remaining on its schedule, NBC left the "Days of our Lives" cast fighting for airtime on this once flourishing daytime network. James Scott managed to top the "DAYS" list ranking at #23 thanks to dueling characters E.J Wells and Santo DiMera.

Note: Due to a leave of absence in '08, last years top Airhog, "All My Children's "Alicia Minshew" (Kendall Hart), fell to #4 in the ranking (tied with "GH's" Maurice Benard). In 2007, the actress appeared in 233 out of 256 episodes. Steve Burton remained a top draw at "GH," as he appeared in the same amount of episodes year-over-year, and Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos Jacks) fell dramatically from #3 to #12. Thorsten Kaye also fell a few notches from fourth in '07 (tied with "B&B's Katherine Kelly Lang) to seventh in '08.  Meanwhile, "AMC's" Cameron Mathison went from #6 in '07 to #8 in '08 (tied with "GH's" Brandon Barash) - he appeared in 16 less episodes this year.  "One Life to Live's" Michael Easton had the biggest plunge as he fell from a #10 ranking in '07 to #27 in '08 (tied with "AMC's" Darnell Williams). The actor appeared in 161 episodes in 2008 vs 203 in 2007. As two actresses played her in 2008, the character of Greenlee Smythe on "All My Children" takes the combined totals of actresses Rebecca Budig and Sabine Singh.

In honor of the Soap Opera Network return of the SON Top 10, we present to you daytime's top scene stealers (literally), who earned their paychecks (and then some) during a most dramatic year.

For YEARS OLTL John and Natalie has won the Soap Opera Digest couple polls and Always present a showing in the Sopas in depth poll ( even after being apart for 2 years). I would like to see m.Easton and M. Archer make this list next year ....TOGETHER!!!!!!! !!!!

I want to see Melissa Archer and Michael Easton make this list next year. When John and Natalie were ALLOWED to share scenes and they were a couple OLTL was good and the ratings showed that. Now OLTL is lucky if it gets a 2.0. How sad is that. ABC has got a goldmine in John and Natalie, they have such natural chemistry and they shine in their scenes together. That's why they have such a large fanbase. Someone at ABC needs to wake up and realize the goldmine they have in John and Natalie as a couple and use them. It would be MUST SEE TV.

She's maintained very high screentime throughout her tenure on the show. I think OLTL is the most balanced of the bunch and does a good job of moving characters back and forth from the frontburner to the back and allowing stories and characters sufficient downtime. They're at risk of overexposing Marty and Todd at the moment, but hopefully they'll pull back a bit before they cross that line into no return (fingers crossed).

Please Melissa Archer and Michael Easton not being together are not the reason why OLTL is at a 2.0 rating. They don't carry that musch weight. But I will say this OLTL is stuck between to shows that suck. Generally Dull and All My Craps are tired shows and you couldn't smack Oprah in between these two shows and expect rating gold.

I don't believe the polls or anything else in Soap Opera Digest. Natalie and John are done. John, the blood sucker is finished.

I was surprise with some of the counts but I think the show is balanced for the most part. I wish they would include RJ in some of the stories, otherwise I'm pretty satisfied.

This character overexposure is exactly the reason AMC is treading in dangerous water!

CM does have a place in Pine Valley but not front and center 24/7. Do those in charge NOT read the fan message boards across the country? Fans are now and have been that his character of Ryan is infused into each and every story line.

Further, fans were not at all interested in the return of Ryan & Greenlee relationship. Fans were thrilled with Greenlee Aiden pairing. A good friendship IRL does not necessarily translate into good pairings on screen. Fans were outraged by this and tuned out.

Now to the dismay of fans, AMC has added Tamera Braun to the mix and is showcasing her at the expense of ER/Bianca.

What a shame that a show has such talented actors & actresses as well as an incredible writing team and just keep completely missing the mark. Fans across the internet are calling for the removal of JHC & Brian Frons to save the show. Perhaps if the two would listen to what the fans are saying, the fans would not be calling for their removal and instead of complaining, tuning in and watching faithfully.

Are we really serious here? We're going to count Rebecca Herbst 30 sec. to 1 minute that she was on our screen during the summer as real airtime. I think the actor/actress should be counted if they were in an episode for more than 4 minutes because I think then this list would probably change.

I too was surprised to see Rebecca Herbst in the list. The only time she was on last summer was when she was at the nurse's desk as more of a background character.

Quite an interesting list. I see DAYS didn't get a mention until James Scott. Can I assume that means other soaps are even less balanced than DAYS.

Not that I'm complaining about seeing JS often, I just wish DH would remember who he is and it's certainly not dumber than a hoe handle nor is he a wimp.

Natalie and John? So DONE.

Rebecca Herbst finally got a story, she by no means was a hog of airtime, that's ridiculous. One of the things that annoying me the most about General Hospital right now is Lulu Spencer and Sam MCCall's character especially getting way too much airtime. Sam's character is in everything!!! How many guys is she going to be with? How many times is her history going to change? How many times does she need to be saved or play hero? I can not believe she isn't on this list!!

I messed up on my last title, so felt the need to correct it. Couldn't edit. Kelly is in everything, give her a backseat for a spell and give some of the other ladies a chance!

These people should have made the list as they should have been on more due to being fan favorites: GUIDING LIGHT's Kim Zimmer (Reva), ALL MY CHILDREN's Susan Lucci (Erica), ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Erika Slezak (Viki), DAYS OF OUR LIVES's Kristian Alfonso (Hope), and AS THE WORLD TURNS's Jake Silberman (Noah) and Van Hansis (Luke).
