Tuesday, February 23, 2010 12:25 AM ET | By Scotty GorePhoto: ABC(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- ABC offers viewers a special glimpse of the new "General Hospital" opening credits on the soap's official website.  As SON first told you earlier this month, "GH" is getting a new opening to correspond with the airing of the show's 12,000th episode on Tuesday, February 23rd.  Look for the show to finally remove old (and mostly dead) characters from the opening sequence including the appearances of Justus Ward (M'fundo Morrison), Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon), Ned Ashton (Wallace Kurth), Dillon Quartermaine (Scott Clifton), Lorenzo Alcazar (Ted King) and actor Greg Vaughan, who portrayed the role of Lucky Spencer until his dismissal upon the return of originator Jonathan Jackson in October 2009, and the removal of  the universally panned all-male final shot. ‘Survival of the Soap Opera’ Book & Conference

The Survival of the Soap Opera: Strategies for a New Media Era is set to be released later this year by the University Press of Mississippi. The anthology, which is edited by Sam Ford, Abigail De Kosnik, and C. Lee Harrington, discusses the current and future state of the faltering soap opera genre, and will feature "contributions from scholars, critics, industry practitioners and viewers." In his interview with one of the book's editors, Sam Ford, Reynolds discusses his more than two decade long obsession with the since cancelled sudser "The Edge of Night." Amanda Setton Leaves ‘One Life’

Photo: Cornerstone TalentSunday, February 21, 2010 2:05 PM ET | By Scotty Gore (SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- The "Gossip Girl" actress decides to leave the ABC soap after only six months with the cast.  Daytime Confidential is reporting that they have learned from various sources that the 24-year-old Setton, who portrays Kimberly Andrews on "OLTL," "was offered a contract and a pay increase, however she opted to turn both down and is planning to move to California for pilot season. " Setton, who joined "One Life to Live" on August 14th, 2009, taped her final episode last Friday (February 19th).  No final airdate has been announced, and a show spokesperson had no comment.  However, considering the sudser's production schedule, she is expected to air until at least late March or early April.  It is unknown if "OLTL" plans to recast the role.    "One Life to Live" airs Weekdays on ABC.
