( — “Young and the Restless” viewers will continue to see a lot more of Michael Graziadei’s “Daniel Romalotti’ now that he’s renewed his contract on the daytime soap opera.

Although there is no word yet as to how long Graziadei’s new contract will be, the renewal itself seemed to have come right on time as a new storyline for his character Daniel begins the week of May 11th, where ‘Daniel’ is asked to go undercover for the FBI.

Graziadei, who joined the cast of “Y&R” in 2004 and nominated for two Daytime Emmy awards and one ‘Soap Opera Digest Award, has had time to work on guest star appearances in such shows as “Castle”, “Criminal Minds” which gave him the chance to work with former “Y&R” star, Shemar Moore, and “90210”. Graziadei also has several film roles under his belt, which includes: “Into the Blue 2: The Reef”, and “The Outsider”, which is in post production.

In April, Soap Opera Network reported that Rick had been dropped to recurring status along with co-star Megan Ward (Kate Howard). Now a month later, Hearst has decided to move on from the daytime drama series and seek new endeavors.

While it is unclear at this time why the actor opted to leave the show, the network has confirmed that his character will leave with a bang.

“We’re saddened for ‘GH’ fans but personally thrilled for Rick. We wish him nothing but success. Rest assured that the character of Ric Lansing will have an exit you won’t want to miss,” ABC said in a statement released via

( — CBS weighs its options on a possible replacement for “Guiding Light.”

Since canceling daytime’s longest running drama series early last month, the Eye Network has explored several options in the search for a potential replacement.  Expanding “The Early Show,” creating a new talk show, and giving the time slot back to the local affiliates, have been among the ideas discussed by network executives.  Even a revival of the popular ’80s game show “Pyramid” has been mentioned as a possibility.

However, despite the recent chatter concerning the classic game show once hosted by America’s oldest teenager Dick Clark, it now appears that plans for an updated “Pyramid” incarnation have fallen by the wayside.  Instead, the network could now be looking at creating a game show “power hour” consisting of new versions of two other legendary game shows, “Let’s Make a Deal” and “The Dating Game.”

According to Variety, CBS will film a pilot for “Let’s Make a Deal” later this month for viewing by the network brass.  If things go well, the search for a host will get underway and another pilot will be shot.  Original “Deal” emcee Monty Hall is said to have been consulting in the process by meeting with potential hosts, which is reported to include some big names.

“Let’s Make a Deal” debuted in 1963, and featured audience members dressed in costumes, vying for the chance to play games and win prizes.  After alternating between ABC and CBS, the original version ran off and on before coming to an end in 1991.  Updated versions ran on NBC Daytime from 1990-1991 (hosted by Hall), and Primetime in the summer of 2003 hosted by Billy Bush, “Access Hollywood” new correspondant and nephew and cousin of former U.S. Presidents George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush, respectively.

As for “The Dating Game,” plans are still in the inital stages and nothing has been confirmed thus far.  Featuring a bachelor or bachelorette asking questions to three members of the opposite sex without seeing their faces, the Chuck Barris created game show premiered on ABC in 1965 and ran until 1980.  Subsequent syndicated versions aired between 1986 and 1999.  Hosts have included Jim Lange, Elaine Joyce, Jeff McGregor, Brad Sherwood, and Chuck Woolery.   “The Dating Game” was rumored initally to have been paired with counterpart “The Newlywed Game,” when GSN (formerly Game Show Network) announced plans to remake the classic game first hosted by Bob Eubanks.  However, those plans soon fell through, and the latest version of  “The Newlywed Game”  debuted on GSN on April 6th of this year.

“Guiding Light” was canceled by CBS on April 1st, and is expected to end its iconic 72-year run on September 18th. Created by Irna Phillips in 1937, the soap has earned a spot in the record books as the longest running daytime serial in the history of the genre.

SON will continue to follow this story as it develops.

“Guiding Light” airs weekdays on CBS.  Anytime on  Check local listings.

( — Two years after Jason Tam first stepped into Llanview as Markko Rivera, “One Life to Live” finally casts the teen character’s parents.

After weeks of speculation, stemming from “Ugly Betty” co-star Tony Plana’s comments that his wife (actress Ada Maris) had landed a role on “OLTL,” Soap Opera Network can finally confirm that Maris has been cast as Markko’s oft-mentioned mother Aurelia Rivera.

Maris is perhaps best known for the role of Gena Cuevas on the 1990s NBC primetime spin-off “Nurses.”  She has also portrayed Captian Erika Hernandez on “Star Trek: Enterprise” and Sonia on “The Brothers Garcia.”

Portraying Maris’ husband, and Markko’s father Ernesto, will be actor David Pinon.  The actor has appeared in episodes of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and “The Kings of Prosperity,” as well as the films “Street Revenge” and “Pride and Glory.”  Both Maris and Pinon will make their “OLTL” debuts on Friday, June 12th.

    In other news…

Final airdates have been announced for the two surviving members of the failed Montez clan.  Camila Banus last airs as troubled teen Lola on May 15th, while her on-screen father A. Martinez (Ray) hangs around Llanview a few weeks longer before finally bidding the town adios on June 10th.  Martinez joined the cast last September, followed by Banus the following month. The sudser is keeping mum on exactly how both characters will exit.

Patrick Allen Cole recently resurfaced (on May 6th and 7th) as Rodi’s bartender/manager Jeff, and may be seen again in the near future.  The actor has noted on his official website that he recently “booked more work as Jeff on ‘One Life to Live.'”

TV Guide Canada is reporting that the cast and crew of “OLTL” spend this past week filming on location in New Jersey for an undisclosed storyline.  The show regularly tapes roughly four to six weeks ahead.

Look for another dayplayer role coming up on Wednesday, May 27th.

On Wednesday, “OLTL” issued the latest in a string of recent casting calls, this time for the role of ‘Chad’ (bear in mind that the soap often switches character names in audition scripts in an attempt to confuse the viewer).  The scene opens with ‘Chad Driscoll’ being introduced to ‘Aaron’ by ‘Emily.’  Chad appears to be a professional athlete, and has competed in the 400 meter butterfly.  An indifferent Aaron asks the swimmer why he is here.  Emily chimes in that Chad has a summer job as a swimming instructor at the Llanview Country Club, and that ‘Timmy’ deserves the best. Later, Chad is holding Timmy in the water as he learns the swims, and Emily urges the little guy not to be afraid.  Immediately, Chad asks her if the man staring holes through him is her husband, to which Emily repsonds that he won’t be for much longer.  She goes on to say that he is only there because the judge ordered him to spend more time with his children.  Chad reassures her that her husband doesn’t bother him, but Emily says that he is annoying her and that they need a little more privacy.  As the scene ends, Aaron is asking Chad if he charges extra for that and then telling him where to go.  Chad quickly responds, however, that he isn’t going anywhere unless otherwise instructed by Mrs. Cameron.

And did “One Life to Live” decide to scrap footage of Gigi Morasco and Rex Balsom’s fantasy wedding earlier this week?  It’s looking more and more likely, given that several news outlets (including ABC MediaNet, which regularly uploads spoiler pictures from upcoming episodes) had recently posted snapshots of the dream wedding, complete with “Another World” alum David Forshythe as the chaplain marrying the wayward lovebirds (this is the same priest that baptised baby Chloe/Hope last month).  No reason has been given for the scenes ending up on the cutting room floor, however, they may still surface in upcoming episodes.

“One Life to Live” airs weekdays on ABC.  Weeknights on SOAPnet.  Check local listings.
