Wes Ramsey Joins ‘DAYS’

Wednesday, April 22, 2009 8:27 PM ET | By Errol Lewis

alt (SoapOperaNetwork.com) –  In early March it was announced that “Guiding Light” veteran Wes Ramsey would be joining the cast of NBC’s “Days of our Lives,” now Soap Opera Network has learned when you can expect to start seeing Ramsey on your screens.

While his character is still being kept under wraps, Ramsey’s first airdate on the daytime drama series is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, when he enters the scene along-side James Scott’s EJ Wells and Jay Kenneth Johnson’s Phllip Kiriakis, according to sources.

A “Days of our Lives” spokeswoman was unable to confirm character details or a first airdate as we went to press.

Before joining “DAYS,” Ramsey got his start in television in 2001 when he joined the cast of CBS’ “Guiding Light” as Sam Spencer. In 2008, he made a brief return to the soap as Sam stood by sister Olivia’s (Crystal Chappell) side during her time of need.

The actor has since made his way to primetime with a recurring role in the CBS drama series “CSI: Miami,” where he plays Dave Benton at the Miami Dade Crime Lab. Dave sorts through images found in the surrounding area of a crime scene and analyzes the data, which greatly helps the CSI team solve cases. Former “All My Children” star Eva LaRue (ex-Maria Santos) also stars in the series as CSI Natalia Boa Vista. Ramsey appeared in The WB drama series “Charmed” in a number of episodes as Wyatt Halliwell from 2003 to 2006.

In addition to his TV work, Ramsey starred in the 2003 gay cult-classic “Latter Days” along-side Steve Sandvoss. In the film he portrayed a gay playboy by the nameof Christian Markelli. Christian found himself falling in love with, in the closet mormon, Elder Aaron Davis (Sandvoss).  In 2008, he played Bram Stoker in the film “Dracula’s Guest.”

“Days of our Lives” airs Weekdays on NBC. Weeknights on SOAPnet. Check local listings.

      ‘OLTL’ Nixes Previews — Again

Tuesday, April 21, 2009 9:29 PM ET | By Scotty Gore

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — Wondering what happened to the “One Life to Live” next day previews at the end of each episode? Well, SON may have the answer.

After years of showing next day previews at the end of each episode for all three of their soaps, ABC suddenly discontinued the practice last summer. While the network gave no specific reason for the change, several sources cited money as the contributing factor to the previews being dropped. Apparently, editing together the 30-second daily end of episode previews for “All My Children,” “One Life to Live,” and “General Hospital” was costly, and ABC thought the money would be better spent elsewhere. Plus, tightening budgets and a bleak economy were also apparently to blame. However, by axing the previews, the network was able to squeeze in a few extra commercials at the end of each soap (between the final scene and the closing credits), to bring in added revenue. Replacing the end of episode previews were more generic weekly promos for each of the three soaps, which were scheduled to air randomly during the ABC Daytime programming block in an attempt to lure more viewers to the network’s daytime line-up.

However, the end of episode previews returned to “OLTL” only last fall, just in time for the November sweeps. “We have an amazing story coming in November, and we want the audience to get a sneak preview every day,” announced “One Life” Executive Producer Frank Valentini just a few weeks before the previews were reinstated. But they didn’t end there. Instead the previews continued to air throughout the winter, and through this year’s March sweeps. Beginning with the March 30th episode, the previews were again dropped following the conclusion of the sweeps period. Reading between the lines of Valentini’s statement, it is apparent that the episode previews were only intended to air until the sweeps period was over. It remains anybody’s guess if an when the end-of-episode previews will return to either “OLTL” or her sister soaps “AMC” or “GH.” But for now, “OLTL” fans will have to be content with the weekly promos for their favorite daytime drama.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — “One Life to Live” brings the past into the present with the returns of Powell Lord III and Rebecca Lewis.

In 1993, Powell Lord III (first cousin to Viki and Todd), reluctantly raped Marty Saybrooke along with frat buddies Todd Manning and Zach Rosen. However, after receiving a lesser sentence then his two accomplices, he was soon released for good behavior. Powell soon fell in love with Rebecca Lewis, an unsuspecting young lady who had been brainwashed by Angela Holiday, a scam artist in cahoots with conman Cain Rogan. Unfortunately for Powell, however, was that naïve Rebecca was enamored with Todd, and soon began visiting him in jail. After tricking the girl into helping him, Todd attempted to get revenge on Marty for sending him to prison, but accidentally killed boyfriend Suede Pruitt in the process.

Holding Rebecca hostage, Todd soon fled the scene with Bo and Powell in hot pursuit. Eventually Todd plunged to his ‘death’ in an icy river nearby. With Todd presumed dead, Rebecca began to fall for Powell (who asked her to marry him), unaware that her new beau was actually the culprit of in a rash of sexual assaults involving nurses at Llanview Hospital. Unbeknownst to anyone, Powell’s mind had snapped and that he believed the only way Rebecca would love him was if he were a serial rapist like Todd. Soon, however, Powell’s involvement in the crimes was revealed, and he was committed to a mental institution in 1994, where he resides today. With her fiancé in jail, Rebecca supposedly decided to leave Llanview behind for Texas.

Flash forward to Llanview 15 years later, as the town is being stalked by a serial killer, identifying himself as a member of the same KAD fraternity which Todd, Zach, and Powell belonged to at the time of Marty’s gang rape. Initial suspects included Todd and recently returned frat buddy Zach, however, recent evidence began to point in a different direction. With suspicion now shifting in the direction of Powell, John McBain soon pays convicted rapist a visit seeking to determine his guilt or innocence in the crime spree.

On April 30th, Sean Moynihan reprises his role as the psychotic grandnephew of the late Victor Lord. However, he will not return alone. Viewers will soon learn that his old flame Rebecca Lewis has been secretly visiting her old love. In fact, when Rebecca is first seen, she is wearing a hosptial coat and badge sporting the name “Dr. Marty Saybrooke.” On May 1st, Jessica Kaye debuts as Rebecca, a role originated by Reiko Aylesworth. Apparently, Aylesworth was unable to fit “OLTL” into her schedule, which includes a starring role on the ABC primetime drama “Lost.” Kaye has appeared in such films as “The Audition,” “Veronkia Decides to Die,” and “Gargoyle” (which she also helped produce). Moynihan, meanwhile has only had a few small acting roles since leaving “OLTL,” with appearances on “Pacific Blue” and “Sliders,” both of which were in 1996.

While the lengths of both Moynihan and Kaye’s stints on “One Life to Live” are being kept quiet, viewers can expect the pair to create much drama throughout the month of May, and causes problems for Todd, Téa, Marty, and John in particular. The storyline also looks to involve Viki as well, in that John contacts her for insight into her cousin Powell’s possible state of mind. Also rumored to possibly play a role in the storyline are LPD officer Oliver Fish and Llanview Hospital lab tech Kyle Lewis (who oddly shares a last name with Rebecca), both of which have been revealed to be graduates of the recently reinstated KAD fraternity at Llanview University. However, while both Powell and Rebecca become swept up in the KAD serial killer storyline, it remains to be seen if either (or both) is actually a murderer. Nonetheless, the plot is expected to come to a climax during the upcoming May sweeps.

        ‘OLTL’ Late April Casting News

Monday, April 20, 2009 10:12 PM ET | By Scotty Gore

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — The latest casting news for “One Life to Live.”

Stacy is confronted by her past on May 6th, when Eric Martin Brown arrives in Llanview as Stan, the former call girl’s boss from her Vegas show days. Stan, who was last seen in February, is looking to settle a debt with his former employee. Ken Schwarz appears as “Gravedigger #1″ on May 15th, as one particular recent storyline comes to a climax. “OLTL” has recently released a casting call for the roles of Aurelia and Geraldo, which appear to be recurring. And the show is reportedly in the process of casting Rex Balsom’s comatose father, and is looking for a ‘big name actor’ to tackle the role.

Réal Andrews may soon be calling Llanview home. The actor, best known for his work as the tough-as-nail cop Taggert on “General Hospital,” commented recently that “One Life to Live” was ‘holding’ a role for him (after announcing last month that he had auditioned for the soap). Could it be the rumored miracle doctor Garrett, boyfriend to Rachel Gannon and big brother to Shaun and Destiny, that will help Matthew regain the use of his legs? Only time will tell, but indications are beginning to point in that direction. Also, is Evangeline Williamson (last portrayed by Renee Elise Goldsberry from 2003-2007) returning to Llanview? “OLTL” Head Writer Ron Carlivati recently commented to ABC Soaps in Depth that “Well, Evangeline is Layla’s sister. But you’ve got to give Layla a chance to get her foot in the door with Cris first. If Evangeline does in fact return, don’t be surprised if Layla’s sis is recast.” The character, who has been in a coma since December 2007 following being attacked by white supremacist Tate Harmon.

And finally, with the KAD serial killer storyline heating up, many fans have begun speculating as to the identity of the murderer. While agreeing to keep the matter hush-hush, SON can tell you that the sudden appearance of two familiar characters next month, may or may not have ties to the killer. But will they look the same, or not? For now, “OLTL” isn’t commenting. Regardless, it will spell bad news for all those involved. As for the identity of the two characters, all we can say is that this pair still have ties to the canvas, despite some time away from Llanview.

Discussion: ‘OLTL’ Late April Casting Report

Monday, April 20, 2009 12:27 AM ET | By Venus Stone

alt (SoapOperaNetwork.com) — For the sake of her son…

Casey and Alison get closer after trying to locate a patient. Vienna and Henry get a warning about keeping secrets from others. On Friday, April 24 Jack gives Parker some not so pleasant news.

        The Inside Story: Desperate Measures

Noah, still being held captive by Zac and Zoe tries his best to escape but Zac captures him. Zoe thinks it’s time to go into their next phase of their plan and send out a ransom note to Lily, Holden and Luke, telling them that in order to get Noah unharmed to deliver a large sum of cash. Holden instantly assumes that it is Damien behind the plot and lunges at him. Lily, however, insists that Damien couldn’t have done it but Luke is very wary. When they get to the police station they fill Margo in on Noah’s kidnapping. Luke quickly points the finger at Damien. Getting Lily, Holden and Luke alone, Margo advises against them paying the ransom because it could put Noah in greater harm. A frustrated Luke exits the interrogation room and sees Damien who begs for him to let him lend his help. When Damien enters the interrogation room, Holden once again lashes out that he is to blame for Noah’s disappearance. Margo, in the meantime gets news that Damien’s finger prints are on the ransom note and quickly puts him in lock-up. Lily, not believing that Damien could have been behind the kidnapping tries to plead with Margo but fails. In the meantime, Luke, who is off by himself gets a text message from ‘Noah’ telling him where he is. When Luke gets there Zac and Zoe corner him and tie him up.
