Steve Richard Harris (SoapOperaNetwork.com) — After two short-term gigs on ABC and NBC soaps, will CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” give Steve Richard Harris the chance to break into daytime once and for all?

Steve Richard Harris made his debut on the soap earlier this year as a bartender at the Genoa City Athletic Club when his then unknown character bed Cougar Jill Abbott (Jess Walton). Now the actor speaks out on how life’s changed since his days on “Another World” and “One Life to Live.”

In a recent interview with Soaps.com, Harris reveals that his character now has a name – Aidan – and will pop back into Genoa City in scenes with Judith Chapmen (Gloria) and Ted Shackelford (Jeffrey).

Prior to landing a gig on “Y&R,” Harris had a contract role on NBC’s “Another World” (1998-1999) as Zak Wilder and ABC’s “One Life to Live” (2002-2003) as Seth Anderson. He has also appeared in such shows as HBO’s “Sex and the City” and CBS’ “Criminal Minds.” He also wrote, directed and acted in the 18-minute short film “Signal Lost.” The film was recently entered into the L.A. Short Film Festival.

Look for Harris on “The Young and the Restless” on Tuesday, July 14 and Wednesday, July 15. With any luck, the actor will make more appearances on the soap. Stay tuned!

Sebastian Roche (SoapOperaNetwork.com) — Sebastian Roche is bringing Jerry Jacks back to Port Charles for another go around of violence and mayhem on ABC’s “General Hospital.”

Roche, who took over the role of Jerry in 2007 after originator Julian Stone was not asked back, is said to be returning for a “short-term” gig according to Soap Opera Digest‘s website. According to sources, Roche’s first airdate is tentatively set for Friday, July 17.

Also according to Soap Opera Digest, daytime newcomer Lexi Ainsworth, who portrays Kristina Corinthos has been bumped to contract status with the soap. The actress is currently the youngest contract actor on the soap. Don’t look for her to appear in the opening credits, however, as the show hasn’t updated it’s opening in well over two years. Of course, things can change.

Rick Hearst last aired as Ric Lansing on Friday, June 26. Good thing Hearst is heading to “The Bold and the Beautiful” next month or else daytime would have lost one of it’s finest talents to movies and primetime television.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — Patricia Mauceri, who has portrayed Carlotta Vega on “One Life to Live” since 1995, has been fired from the show for what is said to be her refusal to participate in the soap’s upcoming gay storyline.

Daytime Confidential broke the news of Mauceri’s firing earlier this afternoon, claiming they were informed by a ‘setside source’ that the actress reportly flat-out refused to play a small role in the in gay-themed plot involving Oliver Fish (Scott Evans) and Kyle Lewis (Brett Claywell), which resulted in her dismissal by her “OLTL” employers. The show has subsequently hired another actress to take over the role.

Mauceri, who is also known to soap fans as Angie Perrini Frame on “Another World” (1977) and Andrea Andropolous on “As the World Turns” (1980), joined the cast of “One Life to Live” in 1995 as the widowed, overprotective Catholic mother of sons Cristian and Antonio Vega. In the beginning, Carlotta was employed by Dorian Cramer Lord as a maid, but managed to save up enough money over time to quit her job and reopen the family diner she had started years earlier with her late husband. She was bumped from contract to recurring status with the show in 1999, and has only been seen sporadically as Carlotta has been downgraded to a background character for much past decade. She was last seen in late March, during a farewell party for her son Antonio (Kamar de los Reyes), who left Llanview in search of the elusive mobster Carlo Hesser.

According to the source, “Carlotta was supposed to have a small role in the upcoming ‘Kish’ storyline. She objected to Carlotta’s positive attitude about homosexuality, saying it conflicted with her personal beliefs.”

Exactly how Carlotta will fit into the gay storyline remains to be seen, however, the show is alleged to be considering taking the plot in a different direction and going against the norm by making the Vega family matriarch a ‘gay friendly Latina mom,’ which apparently didn’t well with the “One Life” vet.

Taking Mauceri’s place as Carlotta will be Saundra Santiago, best known to “OLTL” fans for the role of Isabella Santi during the infamous summer of 2004. Outside of her previous stint in Llanview, Santiago has also appeared on “Guiding Light” as Carmen Santos, from 1999-2002. In addition, the former “Miami Vice” star took her character of Det. Gina Navarro Calabrese to Salem for an episode of “Days of Our Lives” in the mid-1980s. More recently, the actress appeared Jean Cusamano on HBO’s “The Sopranos.”

Santiago’s first tape date was last Friday. Look for her to appear on-screen as Carlotta sometime in late July or early August.  The role is expected to remain recurring.

Mauceri becomes the second soap star in recent weeks to have a falling out with the powers that be over planned controversial homosexual storylines. Just last month, Chris Engen quit the CBS daytime drama “The Young and the Restless” after learning that his character would become a possible love interest for another male character on the show, and that the two would soon be sharing an on camera kiss.

Soap Opera Network will continue to follow this story and have more details as they develop.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — TV Guide Canada‘s Nelson Branco is reporting that Gina Tognoni’s last tape date as Dinah Marler on CBS’ “Guiding Light” was Friday, June 26.

It is understood that despite the cancellation of “Light” in April, the actresses contract was set to expire in June 2009 and the two sides failed to meet an agreement where the actress would remain on the soap until the shows final airdate in September. A last airdate has not been set, however, the soap is currently filming a month ahead of airdate.

It was rumored that Gina was headed back to ABC’s “One Life to Live” as Kelly Cramer, a role she protrayed from 1995-2001 and again for a brief stint in 2002. However, it has been reported that the two also failed to reach an agreement.

Tognoni won two Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series Daytime Emmy Awards (2006, 2008) for her portrayal of Dinah Marler on the soap. She joined the cast of “Guiding Light” in 2004.
