‘One Life’ Casting Updates

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — An update to some “One Life to Live” casting information recently posted on Soap Opera Network.

ABC Soaps in Depth is reporting that the role of Ross Rayburn, who was last seen stranded on a deserted island with Todd Manning and Téa Delgado in 2002, is recurring. According to a source, Michael Lowry (ex-Jake, “All My Children”) was originally brought on to “OLTL” for a limited three month run. However, it is hinted that he remain on canvas for an extended period of time. His first airdate is Friday, August 28th.

Matt Walton, who’s character Elijah Clarke debuts Friday, August 7th and will cause problems for Téa, is also on recurring status with the show (not contract status as was earlier speculated). A spokesperson for “OLTL” tells ABC SID to look for Elijah to remain in Llanview for forseeable future given that the character has “no end date.”

Rumors continue to swirl that “One Life to Live” is looking to cast a young lady that could be the secret love child of Todd and Téa. Perhaps this relates to the recently released audition script for the role of “Dakota.” However, casting the role as a teenager makes little sense, given that the soap has announced repeatedly since Lozano’s return to the canvas last December, that it had only been six years since she and Todd last made love, back on that deserted isle.

Upcoming airdates for Patrick Allen Cole’s recurring character Jeff the Rodi’s Manager have been revised. Fans can now expect to see him on Friday, August 21st and again on Monday, September 28th.

Look for Chris Kies to portray a ‘Movie Man,’ according to IMDb.com, in some upcoming episodes involving David Vickers Buchanan and his reality show.  Wonder if his character’s name will be Ford, and will be David’s show’s producer?

Tuc Watkins tells Soap Opera Digest that “he’s going back and forth from ‘OLTL’ and ‘Desperate Houswives’ and so far it’s working out so hopefully he can continue to do that. He says he hopes that he can go to one of John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex) poker games while he’s New York City because whenever Lavioisier has them, it’s on a night he’s not available. He says he still wants to see his $4,000 poker table but hasn’t had the privilege yet.”

Nicholas Rodriguez’s upcoming short-term character’s name has officially been changed form ‘Griffin’ to ‘Nick’ by “OLTL.” Reportedly, actors Agim Kaba and Nicholas Galbraith were rumored to have auditioned for the role. Rodriguez will first air as Nick on Friday, August 14th. Look for Kyle to use him in an attempt to make Fish jealous.

Kristen Alderson tweets that both she and co-star Brandon Buddy will be among the presenters representing “OLTL” at the Daytime Emmy Awards on August 30th.

And Robin Strasser has posted the following message on her hotline, after announcing that she had just signed a new contract with “OLTL” following a month of tense negotations. “Yes. A contract is going to be coming over. I took what they offered. You know I can fight. I don’t lack the feistiness or resentment or energy or jet fuel, but I have not the inclination, not a bit. Because I’m doing a certain kind of very positive inner work and I can use that energy for other things and I choose to go toward love.”  To read more of what Strasser had to say, along with a comment by “OLTL” Executive Producer Frank Valentini on the show’s move to “All My Children’s” soon-to-be-vacated studios and the transition to HD, click here

Thorsten Kaye (Zach Slater, “AMC”), husband of “OLTL” star Susan Haskell (Marty Saybrooke) tells Carolyn Hinsey that “They’ve given us one week to decide. I’m not sure what I’m going to do. I’m not the kind of dad who wants to be 3,000 miles away from my kids. And it’s not exactly the best time to sell real estate. I think the move shows that ABC has a lot of belief in ‘AMC’ and wants to keep it going.” Perhaps a return to Llanview as Patrick Thornhart may be in his future then.

Amazing news! AMC moving to LA!!! Can’t wait! http://bit.ly/iXYmV But, I am concerned this means makeup/hair/wardrobe depts will change. :(

    One Life to Live

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — With “All My Children” heading to the West Coast, “One Life to Live” will inherit “AMC’s” soon-to-be-old studio space. Also, both soaps are expected to begin broadcasting in HD early next year.

“ABC Daytime announced today that it would move production of ‘All My Children’ from New York to Los Angeles and that ‘One Life to Live’ would move into ‘All My Children’s’ former New York space, giving both shows facility upgrades and streamlined production models,” states an ABC press release issued yesterday afternoon. “‘All My Children’ will begin taping episodes in Los Angeles the week of Jan. 4, 2010. The move of ‘One Life To Live’ to its new home takes place soon after ‘All My Children’ relocates.”

According to ABC Daytime President Brian Frons, “The move to Los Angeles enables both ‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’ to dramatically improve the series production models and achieve significant efficiencies while enhancing each show. We had to examine every option on the table to combat the current economic realities, and rising costs of production, and we are doing it in a way that makes each of our shows stronger.”

“One Life to Live’s” current, smaller studio will be converted into office space by the network. The move to “All My Children’s” soon-to-be-vacated studios will give “OLTL” at least 30% additional space for sets and props.

Which leaves us with several million dollar questions. Will the move to L.A. help or hurt “AMC” in the long-run, and will “OLTL” wither on the vine as the only remaining ABC soap left in the Big Apple, or will it provide a much needed boost the sagging sudser? And if the move is successful for “AMC,” will “OLTL” soon follow suit and head West as well?

So many questions, so few answers.
