( — The Ward family is returning to ABC’s “General Hospital” and it’s about time! It was announced yesterday that actress Annie Ilonzeh has been cast in the contract role of Maya Ward, the daughter of Faith Ward and niece of Justus Ward (last played by M’fundo Morrison). She is also the great grand-daughter of Edward Quartermaine (John Ingle).

According to ABC, Maya will play heavily in the upcoming Quartermaine family story-arc and will find herself involved with a certain Spencer, who will surely be a Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) man despite the woes he’s going through right now or will it be his younger bro Ethan (Nathan Parsons)? Maya will also be joining the General Hospital staff as an intern, who has no patience for bad boys due to a previous experience. Could we have another anti-Jason/Sonny character on our hands? Or is there another bad boy we’re not aware of? Hmm…Ethan sure sounds like a winner!

Ilonzeh previously appeared in such shows as “Melrose Place” and “How I Met Your Mother.” She can be seen in the film “Percy Jackson and The Olympians,” which is out today. Her first airdate on “General Hospital” is set for Wednesday, March 31.

( — If getting a father wasn’t enough, try getting a mother as well. ABC’s “General Hospital” has cast actress Lisa Waltz to portray the role of Melissa Bauer, Kiefer’s (Christian Alexander) mother starting next month on the drama series. Waltz joins Bradley Cole (ex-Jeffrey O’Neill), who we learned on Tuesday was joining the cast in the role of Carlton Bauer, Kiefer’s father. Both actors will be on recurring status with the soap. UPDATE: The soap has renamed Cole’s character to Warren Bauer according to ABC sources.

Soap Opera Network first broke the news on our Twitter page on Thursday, and we’ve since learned that the presence of the two Bauer parents is due to a major turning point in the teen abuse storyline currently playing out on the soap between Kristina Corinthos (Lexi Ainsworth) and Kiefer. According to sources, we’ll soon learn the source of Kiefer’s violent behavior with the presence of both parents on the canvas.

Prior to joining “General Hospital,” Waltz had appearances on CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” in the role of Dr. Mason, who most recently had been counseling Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) during the characters addiction phase. The actress has also appeared in numerous television series including “My So-Called Life” and “Ask Harriet.” She most recently appeared in the primetime dramas “Castle” and “Lie to Me.” She can next be seen in the film “Head Over Spurs in Love” set for release this year.

( — “All My Children” suffers it’s biggest loss yet due in part due to their production move west.

Julia Barr and Cady McClain will be returning to “All My Children” in the next several weeks. In news that will invoke feelings that directly oppose the ones the aforementioned news stories invoked with many fans, “AMC” and “One Life to Live” creator Agnes Nixon has confirmed the bad news that Daytime Confidential first reported several months ago: David Canary is leaving “AMC” later this year.

In an October 2009 interview with, a clearly disappointed Nixon let it prematurely slip that the acclaimed actor would be exiting the soap. The site waited until this week to release the top-tier confirmation of the news that ABC Daytime has yet to confirm for obvious reasons. You can watch Nixon’s interview here! The confirmation followed months of fans hoping against all odds that fairly decent sources were being led astray. Prior to the Daytime Confidential drop last fall, Canary’s daughter went to Twitter to tell her followers that her father would be moving out to Los Angeles for only the duration of his current contract. Last month, Soap Opera Digest featured columnist, Carolyn Hinsey, told her Facebook followers that Canary is expected to cease taping at “AMC” in March of this year (and that Adam will leave Pine Valley alive).

Prior to joining “AMC,” Canary was best known for the role of Candy Canaday on the series “Bonanza,” a role he played from 1967 to 1973. In 1983, Canary landed the role of devious Adam Chandler on “AMC,” and a year later began playing Adam’s popular twin brother, Stuart (the good twin). In the more than a quarter of a century that Canary has played the roles of Adam and Stuart, to say that Canary has been acclaimed would be an understatement. Canary earned five wins for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Daytime Series and has chalked up nearly twenty nominations. The actor is as popular with fans. Critics and fans alike would all agree that “AMC” will not be the same without both this actor and his characters.

Soap Opera Network will keep you up to date as more details develop with this story.
