OLTL Recap: Friday, July 8, 2011

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — “One Life to Live” Episode Recap – Friday, July 8, 2011.

The man with Todd’s original face skulks around Llanfair, nearly making contact with Viki. At EOD Viki is on the verge of catching him.

John questions Vimal about the statement he pulled back from making last night, but Vimal again bites his tongue. Vimal is let go – for now – but with a tail, thanks to John. As a result, John learns that Vimal has gone to work for Todd.

Meanwhile, Brody continues to fret about his knowledge that Liam is not his son – and Marty’s taped confession that could out it all. Later, John enlists Brody in a new project: Bringing down Todd, once and for all. Brody signs on. John needs to iron out a few details, chief among them a piece of missing evidence from the investigation into Gigi’s death signed out by Brody: The tape recorder.

Jack starts work at the Sun but is distracted by Gigi-related news. Todd tries to keep Jack focused but is taken aback to learn a business plan was undone by the intervention of another company, Origami Cogs. Vimal arrives before Todd can delve deeper into this mystery. Vimal tells Todd about his run-in with John. After sending Jack away Todd demands details from Vimal. Jack returns as Todd and Vimal are discussing a secret Todd is keeping from John. Jack asks Todd about this secret.

Blair confronts Téa about her role in Jack’s “exoneration.” Téa and Blair blame themselves for Jack’s behavior, but Todd, too. Together they decide to pay Rex and Shane their respects, but are chilled by the welcome they get. Rex and Shane prepare to receive friends and family at their new home, Asa’s mansion, where they’ll remember Gigi. Roxy is stunned and dismayed to learn of the deal that gave Gigi’s heart to Clint, and Clint’s fortune to Rex. Roxy is further appalled that Rex has fired Nigel. Echo also takes note of the ruthless shift in Rex but ultimately gives him a pass. Rex intends to make Todd and Jack pay by doing to them what they did to him and Rex: By depriving them of their wife and mother, Téa and Blair.

Dorian and David continue to spar over his alleged infidelity with Ionia. Dorian refuses to accompany David while he gives his condolences to Rex and Shane. Left alone, Dorian signs for a package addressed to David, assumed to be from Ionia. At the mansion, David, Viki, Jessica and Natalie visit Rex and Shane.

Natalie invites Jessica to talk about Brody later at Llanfair.

Echo listens in and revels as David relates to Viki the turn for the worse his marriage has taken. David seeks an ally in Viki, but she is on the outs with Dorian. David returns home only to be confronted by Dorian, wielding the contents of the package: A gun.

At Llanfair, Natalie tells Jessica that she and Brody have gotten together.

On the Next One Life to Live…

  • Jessica slaps Natalie in front of Viki and Bree.
  • David and Dorian make a gruesome discovery.

Debbi Morgan Not Sticking Around for 'All My Children.net'

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — Just days following Soaps In Depth reporting that Debbi Morgan was close to signing a deal to join “The Young and the Restless,” today a CBS spokesperson confirmed to TV Guide’s Michael Logan that a deal was indeed signed between Morgan and “Y&R” on Thursday. Morgan will begin taping at the number one soap in America once taping at “All My Children” concludes for the time being at the end of August. As reported on Thursday, due to a last minute licensing agreement, “AMC” and “One Life to Live” are due to go on in the internet format. Despite the deal to revive the two soaps, multiple sources confirm that all of the actors from “AMC” are free agents come September 1, which explains why Morgan already filled her calender. This of course means the internet version of the 41-year-old daytime drama could end up looking very different from the ABC version when all the pieces come together.

Daytime Emmy Award Winner Morgan started her daytime career on “AMC” in 1982 as Dr. Angela Hubbard. She remained on the show until 1990. She returned to the role for her current run in January 2008. In between her “AMC” stints she also spent 1993 thru 1998 on the ABC Daytime drama’s “Loving,” “The City” and “Port Charles.” She played Dr. Hubbard on both “Loving” and The City.” Alongside Daytime Emmy Award Winner Darnell Williams, Morgan created daytime’s first African American super-couple in the form of Jesse and Angie Hubbard. Morgan’s daytime career has also extended outside of ABC Daytime. From 1990 to 1991, Morgan moved on to NBC’s “Generations” and then to CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” from October 2006 to June 2007. The two-time Image Award Winner has also had a successful career outside of daytime. She has appeared on numerous prime-time series and films.

ABC Soaps In Depth reports Morgan is slated to work in story alongside long-time “Y&R” star Kristoff St. John (Neil) and Julia Pace Mitchell (Sofia) once she settles in Genoa City.

              Disney Enterprises

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — It has been three months since we’ve learned that “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” have been canceled and would no longer be seen weekday afternoons on the ABC Television Network or weeknights on SOAPnet. It has been a truly unique period for this industry that has seen fans rallying together to try and help save shows that have become part of their everyday lives. Whispers, rumors and reports were trickling in at a record pace, often times we would find our heads spinning. Weeding through the information that we received here at Soap Opera Network, we aimed to report what we felt had the most backing or we were able to verify through various other sources. Turns out we may have had a big inside source all along.

For the last several months, I’ve had multiple conversations with an individual that claimed to have knowledge of why ABC decided to cancel “All My Children” and “One Life to Live.” This source at one point commented that it had something to do with the government and the Ethics committee in Washington, D.C. Sounded nuts, right? Well, it turns out this same person told me on Tuesday, June 28, that “your soaps were saved. They received the grant money they needed before their deadline,” which according to this person was the end of May. Again, I thought what they were saying sounded just a little too far out there, so I decided to leave our conversation at that. In retrospect, maybe I should have listened a little closer.

On Thursday, June 30, I had tweeted that I heard from sources that fans should continue to rally in support of “One Life to Live.” To be more precise, I said “got word today that @ABC has in fact been discussing options to keep #OLTL on the air, but it remains in the hands of fans. Don’t give up. The ‘someone’ you keep hearing about is now several people!” At that point “All My Children” wasn’t discussed as the conversation pertained solely in regards of “One Life to Live.” I had intended on reporting on this news on Tuesday, July 5, but unfortunately I caught the flu and had a high fever for several days. Now on Thursday, July 7, nearly three months to the day since ABC canceled “AMC” and “OLTL,” the network announced the shows would live on…only online thanks to Prospect Park, a television and media entertainment production company that was founded in 2009 and is run by Jeffrey Kwatinetz and former Disney Studios honcho Rich Frank, who also serve as executive producers of the hit USA Network original series “Royal Pains.” In retrospect, what the person I had been speaking with said now makes perfect sense when you put all the pieces together. In return for saving our beloved soaps, the government gives a grant for what could be the next big medium, progression of sorts… Radio > TV > Internet Broadcasting.

Interestingly enough, Prospect Park hired Josh Barry, ABC’s former executive in charge of drama development, back in May to tackle the companies TV division alongside Paul Frank, the son of Rich Frank. According to Barry, his first order of business was “putting together a wide slate of projects.” Could that slate have included the uncanceled soaps?

On Thursday, June 23, we reported that ABC had indeed turned down offers they received to sell the soaps. Knowing what we know now, and putting the puzzle pieces together, it makes sense that a plan was in the works all a long to save the soaps, while also allowing ABC to retain ownership rights to both soap operas and receive millions of dollars in royalties each year from Prospect Park. Hence, ABC comes out a winner either way in this case. They no longer produce the shows, yet still stand to make money off of them as they move into the future. As opposed to selling them outright and watching another network or medium make money off of them. ABC can’t have asked for a better situation.

Scott tells JR that he is restoring the guest house so he can move in. He wants to be close to his family similar to how Adam and Stuart lived there together. Scott tells Marissa he thinks taking JR back would be a mistake. Marissa runs into Bianca at Krystal’s and learns the music box was Bianca’s idea. She wants to know why Bianca helped JR win her back and Bianca admits she did it because she couldn’t. Bianca thinks that for the sake of their friendship they should stay clear of each other for a while.

Tad tells Cara he wants more than gratitude from his relationship with Cara. He says he tried to fight it but he’s started to feel more for her and thinks things changed once she kissed him and started planning dates. Cara asks who said she didn’t want more. Tad asks if she has feelings for him or if her gratitude is forcing her to try and feel something for him. Ryan and Kendall interrupt Tad and Cara with news about Griffin. Tad says he married Cara to keep her safe and it was a marriage in name only and that’s what it has to get back to.

Ryan explains to Kendall that he looked into the manifest because he thought Griffin could help him figure out David’s plan and that’s when he learned Griffin never got on the plane. Ryan wonders if all this has something to do with David. Ryan brings Kendall to her appointment with Griffin’s replacement and as she starts to remember moments with him she begins having heart palpitations. Kendall follows the nurse down the hall and freezes when she sees Griffin.

                IT HAPPENED TODAY…

Todd finds Jack at the Carriage House and pre-empts his confession to Rex and Shane about his responsibility for Gigi’s death. Todd covers with condolences and comments about Brad’s ostensible guilt. To everyone’s surprise, Rex welcomes the sympathy and suggests, for Gigi’s sake, that they bury the hatchet and move forward peaceably. After Todd and Jack leave, however, Rex tells Shane he was only pretending to let bygones be bygones in order to take Todd and Jack by surprise when he destroys them for what they did to his family.

Nate and Dani argue about having kept secrets from each other – Dani’s that she knew Matthew had killed Eddie, and Nate’s that he knew Dani knew. Ultimately, they make up, though Nate keeps one more secret, that he was responsible for Matthew’s condition. Bo and Nora agree to send Matthew to an out-of-town rehab center specializing in traumatic brain injury. Destiny takes a pregnancy test and tells unconscious Matthew she’s pregnant. She’s frightened and confused and when Dani asks about the results, she lies and tells her the test was negative.

When Dorian checks on Clint’s condition, Viki blasts her for having left Clint untreated too long. Their friendship is strained, playing right into Echo’s plan to destroy Viki and Dorian. The other part of Echo’s plan is furthered when David gets a surprise poolside visit from Ionia who once again throws herself at him. Unbeknownst to David, Echo covertly snaps seemingly salacious photos. Dorian returns after Ionia leaves and David chooses not to tell her about the actress’s visit. Dorian finds out, however, when the photos hit the Internet.

Blair encounters Tomas and is unable to tell him the truth about Jack’s involvement in Gigi’s death. Tomas suspects she’s keeping a secret and she blasts him about all the secrets he’s keeping from her. Their passionate argument turns into to a passionate kiss.
