Alderson, Buddy Keep Roots in Llanview

Wednesday, May 27, 2009 3:18 AM ET | By Scotty Gore

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) – Kristen Alderson and Brandon Buddy set the record straight about their future with “One Life to Live.”

With Internet speculation swirling that Llanview’s tumultuous teen couple Starr Manning and Cole Thornhart may soon be out the door, the actors behind two of “One Life to Live’s” most popular characters tackle the rumors surrounding their future with the show.

For almost a decade, Kristen Alderson has literally grown up before the eyes of “One Life” fans as the troubled daughter of reformed rapist Todd Manning.  Now the 18-year-old actress is ready to advance to the next stage of her career, venturing into primetime.  However, Alderson admits that, while interested in pursuing guest appearances in after dark network television, she is content on staying true to her daytime roots, telling Soap Opera Digest that “I’m definitely not planning to leave ‘One Life to Live.’”

As for Buddy, reports indicate that the actor, who made his “OLTL” debut in 2006 as the son of Marty Saybrooke and Patrick Thornhart, also has no plans to leave Llanview anytime soon.  That appears to be the story, despite speculation that the daytime sudser may be planning to kill off the character of Cole.  Instead, it appears that Buddy will remain with the show for the foreseeable future, and that viewers can expect to see more of Cole in the weeks and months ahead.

In other news…

Matt Drago will return to “OLTL” in the coming months in a dayplayer capacity.  Drago, who appeared as a Rodi’s Patron last month, posted in his blog for the week of May 17th that “…tomorrow I will be back on set in ‘One Life to Live’!”  The soap regularly tapes approximately six weeks in advance.

The recently released audition script for the role of Elijah Kent looks to be for a new lawyer.  Also, another audition script has just been released by “OLTL,” this time for the role of a Rabbi.   SON will have more details on these casting calls as they becomes available.

“One Life to Live” airs weekdays on ABC. Weeknights on SOAPnet. Check local listings.

OLTL Casting: Odds and Ends

Tuesday, May 26, 2009 3:37 AM ET | By Scotty Gore

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) – Upcoming casting tidbits for “One Life to Live.”

John Rue and January LaVoy resurface as Moe and Noelle Stubbs on Tuesday, June 9, when Dorian Lord makes a confession to the couple.

Teenage drug dealer Asher (Evan Joiner) returns on Friday, June 12, when the pill pusher approaches one of his best customers.  Also on that date, veteran “OLTL” castmember Patricia Elliott pops up again, when Renee Buchanan has an idea concerning two of Llanview’s favorite couples.  And Ada Maris and David Pinon first air as Aurelia and Ernesto Rivera as son Markko marks an important milestone in his life.

A. Martinez ends his run as Ray Montez on Wednesday, June 10.  And expect Kathy Brier and Chris Stack (Marcie and Michael McBain) to air at least through Wednesday, June 17.  Look for a few unexpected surprises for the couple before they exit Llanview together.

Look for several upcoming dayplayer roles in upcoming episodes.

In other news…

“One Life to Live” has released two new casting calls.  The first is for the role of ‘Serge.’  Remember that the soap routinely changes character names in audition scripts to attempt to throw off viewers.  The scene opens with ‘Serge’ frisking ‘Caleb’ and ‘Adam.’  Visibly upset, Caleb demands to know what is the meaning of this since he already gave him all his money.  Adam responds that he is looking for a wire, causing Serge to blurt out to Caleb that he should answer his own questions.  Serge goes on to tell Caleb that his buddy informed him that ‘Jake Kelly’ turned his back on him.  Jake is a cop/bartender and refused to train Adam to be his assistant because he is a drug addict.  Caleb confides in Serge that he and Jake are no longer as good of friends as they used to be.  He also says that Jake is dating his mom, and manages to act all buddy-buddy and fatherly with him, despite the fact that he just sat on his hands when he got arrested for drug possession.  Caleb responds to Serge’s questioning by stating that his mom hired a really good lawyer, who was able to keep him from serving much jail time.  As the scene ends, Caleb informs Serge that he now has a criminal record, is unemployed, and has some bills he needs to pay.  It appears that, by the tone of the script, Cole may be involved.

The second is for the role of Elijah Kent.  SON will have more details on this casting call as it becomes available.

“One Life to Live” airs weekdays on ABC. Weeknights on SOAPnet. Check local listings.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — “Days of our Lives” brings in a new face to the Horton clan, while a couple of Brady’s finally hit the road.

Twin babies Julia and Ailish last air as Baby Grace Brady on Monday, June 8, when Sami (Alison Sweeney) must say goodbye to her newborn baby girl.

Rachel Melvin is back as Chelsea Brady returns from London on Wednesday, June 10. Look for Chelsea to lead Max Brady out of Salem on Thursday, June 11 as portrayer Darin Brooks sets his sights on Spike TV’s “Blue Mountain State” later this year. Brooks joined the cast in June 2005.

Mark Hapka is joining the cast beginning Wednesday, June 17 as Nathan, Maggie’s (Suzanne Rogers) grandson. Nathan will be interning at Salem University Hospital along-side Melanie Layton (Molly Burnett). From 2007-2008, Hapka portrayed the role of a 15 year-old Johnny on the NBC drama series. His other credits include a starring role in webisodes of the CBS drama “Ghost Whisperer” as Zach. Recently, he appeared in an episode of Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana.” As in “DAYS” tradition, look for Hapka to kick the summer season off accordingly as Nathan’s shirt comes off on day one.

Ralph Waite again appears as Father Matt on Wednesday, June 17, while former NBC.com “DAYS” blogger and TheInsider.com columnist Ross Matthews appears in scenes with Lauren Koslow’s Kate Roberts.

Casey Deidrick is joining the cast as Chad, Mia’s (Taylor Spreitler) ex-boyfriend and father of her baby, whom she gave to Nicole (Arianne Zuker) to pass off as her own. A first airdate hasn’t been set. Look for Chad to stir things up between Mia and Will Brady (Dylan Michael Patton).

Is former “Sunset Beach” and “Passions” star Nick Stabile joining “Days of our Lives?” That’s the story according to published reports. Soap Opera Network will keep you posted as news develops.

“Days of our Lives” airs Weekdays on NBC. Weeknights on SOAPnet.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — “General Hospital” sets its sights on a summer of hospitality as General Hospital (location) takes center stage.

On the heals of the soaps recasting of Michael Corinthos III with newcomer Drew Garrett, who began airing on Thursday, April 24, the soap has recast the role of Kristina Corinthos with daytime newcomer Lexi Ainsworth beginning Thursday, June 4. Lexi is best known for her role as Molly in 2008′s “Wild Child,” starring Emma Roberts. She has also appeared in the Nickelodean series “iCarly” and the short-lived NBC drama “Medical Investigation.” Look for Kristina to take a rather inappropriate liking to Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) as a result of adolescent retaliation against their parents.

In related news, Arizona Diamondbacks left fielder Conor Jackson will portray Michael’s physical therapist on the Wednesday, June 3 episode of the soap. More on Conor’s appearance on the show will appear in the June 29 issue of ESPN Magazine, on newsstands June 19.

Billy Dee Williams reprises his role of Toussaint DuBois on Thursday, June 4. Last seen on the SOAPnet original series “General Hospital: Night Shift” as the janitor at General Hospital, Toussaint will “return to Port Charles during a tour break with the Saints,” said ABC. “He’ll want to see Epiphany [Sonya Eddy] and other residents in town.”

Constance Towers brings Helena Cassadine to Port Charles for another go-around as Helena taunts Rebecca (Natalia Livingston) on Thursday, June 4.

ABC has not confirmed a last airdate for the departing Rick Hearst, who won two Emmy’s for his portrayal of Ric Lansing on the daytime drama series since joining the soap in 2004. Sources, however, state that Hearst will last air in mid-to-late June.

A first airdate for Martha Byrne’s Andrea Floyd, wife of Mayor Garrett Floyd (John Bolger), hasn’t been released, but when she debuts in June she’ll be one angry woman after learning her husband has been keeping some dirty secrets.

“General Hospital” airs Weekdays on ABC. Weeknights on SOAPnet.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — Just as May Sweeps ends, daytime’s number one drama series, “The Young and the Restless,” gears up for the summer heat with explosive storylines and shocking returns.

Raul Guittierez (David Lago) is sticking around for a little while longer as “Y&R” delves further into Raul and Mac’s (Clementine Ford) time outside of Genoa City. It remains unclear how long Lago has signed on for.

Cassius Willis is back as Det. Gil Wallace, who shares words with Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart) on Monday, May 25.

Jerry Douglas  returns on Wednesday, May 27, as John Abbott takes time from his busy day in heaven to give son Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) the “talk” of a lifetime. Douglas last appeared on May 5.

Corbin Bernsen, son of Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor) is back as Father Todd Williams. He re-appears in Genoa City on Tuesday, June 2 and learns that brother Paul (Doug Davidson) has popped the question to Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott). Bernsen’s last appearance on “Y&R” aired in 2004.

On Friday, June 5, Raya Meddine brings Sabrina Newman back to “life.” Is Sabrina’s “ghost” haunting Ashley (Eileen Davidson) or is Adam (Chris Engen) playing another vile joke on step-mommy? Sabrina was killed in a shocking twist of fate as the spouses of Victor (Eric Braeden) and Nikki Newman (David Chow, played by Vincent Irizarry) died in a disastrous car accident in 2008.

Speaking of Adam, Engen has reportedly abruptly quit the soap after rumored battles with producers regarding the future of his character. His last airdate hasn’t been set, but Michael Muhney will take over the role beginning Thursday, June 25.

“The Young and the Restless” airs Weekdays on CBS. Weeknights on SOAPnet.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — In an explosive turn of events, “The Young and the Restless” has recast the role of Adam Wilson, Victor Newman’s son after a rumored falling out with star Chris Engen.

TV Guide Canada’s Nelson Branco, in an update to his Sud’s Report, broke the news this morning that sources were reporting that Engen had “quit” the CBS drama series after learning that his character would become a potential love interest of co-star Yani Gellman’s Rafe Torress.

“He [allegedly] refused to kiss [his same-sex] co-star Yani Gellman [Rafe]. Chris hasn’t been happy for a while. He doesn’t like the dark direction his character is taking. He’s called in sick a lot recently and has been taking a slew of meetings with Y&R’s [top brass] to discuss his future on the show. Chris is still under contract — and Y&R is seriously thinking of taking legal action.”

When pressed for comment, Engen’s management issued a “no comment.”

Taking over for Engen will be daytime newcomer Michael Muhney (prounounced mu-nee). The actor has had an extensive career in primetime via his work on UPN/The CW’s “Veronica Mars” as Sheriff Don Lamb and Det. Mark Farrell on USA Network’s “The Huntress.” In 1999, the actor starred in the short-lived CBS series “Turks.”

Muhney posted on his Twitter page that “the new job is the likes of which i have never done…and i get to indulge in some interesting, perverse, warped scenarios…”

At press time a last airdate for Engen had not been scheduled. Muhney’s first airdate is scheduled for Thursday, June 25 reports TV Guide.com.

“The Young and the Restless” airs Weekdays on CBS. Weeknights on SOAPnet.

As SON first reported last week, the soap is planning to introduce the estranged parents of the late Nash Brennan (Forbes March), who died last June.  Now we can confirm the names of the actors cast in the roles.

Portraying Nash’s mother Cindy Brennan will be Broadway star Jan Maxwell.  Best known for her roles in theater productions such as “The Sound of Music,” “The King and I,” “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” and “Dancing with Lughnasa,” the Tony and Drama Desk Award winning actress has also made numerous television appearances, including “Law & Order” and “Gossip Girl.”  In addition, Maxwell also made several appearances on “All My Children” during the summer of 2007 as Judge Myatt.

In the role of Nash’s father Phil will be fellow Broadway performer John Wojda.  The actor is best known for his appearances on “Law & Order,” “Third Watch,” and as a construction worker in the 2000 remake of the movie “Shaft.”

Parker Fong portrays Little Girl #1 on June 25th.  Other television appearances include “Sex and the City.”

Hickland Finds New ‘Life to Live’

Thursday, May 21, 2009 12:44 AM ET | By Scotty Gore

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — Catherine Hickland returns to Llanview as Lindsay Rappaport to spice things up between Bo and Nora.

Although Lindsay hasn’t been seen being led away in handcuffs after being convicted of murdering evil doctor Spencer Truman (with the exception of Rex Balsom’s dream last October as he went under the knife to remove a bullet from his chest cavity), the firey vixen is set to return to Llanview in only a few short weeks.

Although it remains to be seen if and how the town’s token Rappaport will be granted a release from prison, reports are that she will come between Bo and Nora’s precarious relationship.  Rumors claim that Clint arranges for Lindsay to go free with hopes that she will hook up with Bo, and push Nora away from her ex-husband and into his open arms.  However, a spokesperson for “One Life to Live” had no comment.

The news comes as a suprise to many “One Life” fans who had written off the character following her murder conviction last summer.  Hickland broke the news earlier this week when the actress posted messages on her official Facebook and Twitter pages that “I’ll be returning to ‘One Life to Live’ in June! Stay tuned. :)”  A first airdate has not been set, nor has the length of Hickland’s return been announced.

Prior to joining “OLTL” in 1998, Hickland appeared as Courtney Marshall on “Texas” (1980-81), Julie Cregg and Jenny Diamond on “Capitol” (1983-87), Brooke Logan on “The Bold and the Beautiful” (1987), and Tess Wilder on “Loving” (1993-95) and “The City” (1995-1997).  In addition, she has also guest starred on a number of televsion programs including “Knight Rider,” “CHiPs,” “Law & Order,” “Eight is Enough,” “Vega$,” and “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.”

Hickland, who was taken off contract with “OLTL” in 2005, also runs the highly successful make-up company Cat’s Cosmetics, and recently wrote her first book entitled The 30-Day Heartbreak Cure-A Guide for Getting Over Him and Back Out There One Month from Today.  In addition, the actress has also appeared on Brodway, and performed for audiences as a clinical hypnotist.  Hickland has been married three times, most recently to “All My Children” actor Michael E. Knight (Tad Martin); the pair are currently separated.  From 1984-89, she was married to “Baywatch” star David Hasselhoff.

Look for Hickland to return to “OLTL” sometime in June.  SON will bring you more information as it becomes available.

“One Life to Live” airs weekdays on ABC. Weeknights on SOAPnet. Check local listings.
