In an exclusive interview with TV Guide‘s Michael Logan, “The Young and the Restless’” David Tom reveals that he had to audition for the role of Billy Abbott when the series was looking to recast the character when contract talks between current portrayer Billy Miller and Sony Pictures Television proved to be unsuccessful. This was despite the fact that Tom garnered two Daytime Emmy Award nominations in the category of Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series in 2000 and 2001 (he won in 2000) for his portrayal of the character.

While Tom doesn’t air until Monday, February 3, the actor also talked with the publication about Billy finally learning Adam (Michael Muhney) was behind the wheel of the car that killed Billy’s daughter Delia and what it means for the future of the character now that he’s back in the role. In addition, Tom discusses whether viewers should give Billy a free pass after he had grief sex with Kelly (Cynthia Watros) and where things are headed between Billy and Victoria (Amelia Heinle).

CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” is gearing up for an actor switch in the coming weeks for the character of Billy Abbott, currently played by Billy Miller.

In a newly released behind the scenes image, the series has given fans their first glimpse of David Tom back in the role right alongside his character’s onscreen wife, Amelia Heinle (Victoria Newman). This marks the fist time that the two actors have been seen together on set as Tom left the soap in 2002 and Heinle joined the series in 2005. In a bit of irony, while their characters are married on the show, the role of Victoria was originally played by Tom’s real-life sister, Heather (currently playing Katie Logan on “The Bold and the Beautiful”), back in the day.

While character and storyline details are not yet known, a rep for ABC’s “General Hospital” confirms that Shirley Jones, former star of “The Partridge Family” and “Shirley,” will appear on the daytime soap opera in an episode airing next month.

In a new interview with Highlight Hollywood, former executive producer and head writer of “The Young and the Restless,” Maria Arena Bell, has clarified a statement she made in Soap Opera Digest after the publication released their report on Michael Muhney’s firing from the daytime drama series. In it, she said, “Michael brought amazing dimension and complexity to the role of Adam Newman, and his and Sharon’s [Sharon Case] was a great dark love story. Sadly, that story was seriously derailed in the last year, so I am not surprised that the show would look for a solution to their problematic storytelling decisions. It will be a tough role to recast.” However, with a report by TMZ that says the actor was let go following alleged claims he fondled the breasts of one of his co-stars, Bell now says, “Frankly he should have been let go months before because of his behind the scenes actions.”
