(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — The Survival of Soap Opera: Transformations for a New Media Era is scheduled to be officially released on Wednesday, December 1st by the University Press of Mississippi. The anthology, which is edited by Sam Ford, Abigail De Kosnik, and C. Lee Harrington, discusses the current and future state of the faltering soap opera genre, along with how the traditional daytime drama format will either reach or lose its audience in the Age of the Internet, and will feature contributions from scholars, critics, industry practitioners and viewers.

The book, which SON first told you about back in February, “investigates the causes of their dwindling popularity, describes their impact on TV and new media culture, and gleans lessons from their complex history for twenty-first-century media industries. The book contains reflections from established soap scholars such as Robert C. Allen, Louise Spence, Nancy Baym, and Horace Newcomb, along with essays and interviews by emerging scholars, fans, and website moderators, and by soap opera producers, writers, and actors from ABC’s ‘General Hospital,’ CBS’s ‘The Young and the Restless’ and ‘The Bold and the Beautiful,’ and other shows. This diverse group of voices seeks to intervene in the discussion about the fate of soap operas at a critical juncture and speaks to longtime soap viewers, television studies scholars, and media professionals alike,” according to publisher’s website.

Although it will technically not be released for a few more weeks, you can purchase a copy (and get a sneak preview) from Amazon now. Approximately 320 pages, the 6 x 9 inch hardcover book is selling for $50.00. So be sure to check it out and add it to your reading list today!

Kardashian Lays Down the Law in Llanview

    Photo: E! Entertainment

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — She may not be a lawyer in real life, however Kourteny Kardashian is about to play one on “One Life to Live.” That’s right, only days after SON first told you that the heiress and socialite was scheduled to make a guest appearance on the ABC soap, details as to the character she will play are revealed.

The popular celebrity gossip website TMZ is reporting that Kardashian will portray “a sexy attorney who develops a love/hate relationship with a ‘dark-haired guy’ [David Fumero's Cristian Vega] on the show.”

But don’t expect the role to be a cakewalk for the reality star, who will also reportedly “kiss and punch” one of the show’s male characters.

Click here to view some exclusive photos of Kardashian outside the “One Life to Live” studios, where she taped her scenes last Thursday (November 11th). Those scenes are expected to air sometime in March.

OLTL PreVUE: Week of November 15 Edition

Friday, November 12, 2010 at 8:00 AM ET by Scotty Gore

      Photo: Robert Milazzo/ABC

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — A look at what’s happening on “One Life to Live” during the week of November 15, 2010.

THIS WEEK ON: ONE LIFE TO LIVE

James tries to comfort Starr.  A drunken Kelly leaves a number of embarrassing voicemail messages for Joey on Monday, November 15, which later leaves her horrified when she realizes what she’s done.  Kelly decides to go to London to see Joey in person, only to bump into Kevin instead.  Ford returns home to find his dad with a hooker.  Bo promises to make Eddie’s life miserable if he stays in Llanview.  Nora and Inez argue over Bo, who happens to walk in on the confrontation on Wednesday, November 17.  Langston confesses to Blair that she and Ford have been seeing one another again.  By Friday, November 19, Langston tells Ford that their future won’t include sex.  Blair flirts with Ford while he is on a date with Langston.  Todd watches as Greg is sentenced to prison.  And, after learning that Greg killed her mother, Destiny asks Téa to help her divorce her “parents.”

      The Inside Story: Daddy Dearest

Echo admits to Rex and the entire crowd gathered at Todd and Téa’s party that she is his mother on Monday, November 15.  Shocked, Rex demands to know who his father is as well.  Echo, Charlie, and Clint all agree to have their DNA tested.  On Tuesday, November 16, Dorian thinks that Clint is Rex’s biological father and attempts to break into his secret drawer in order to get some proof.  Meanwhile, at the DNA clinic, Charlie and Echo share a warm moment while discussing Rex, who suddenly decides he doesn’t want to get tested himself.  However, he soon changes his mind and has a test performed, along with the others.  While snooping through Clint’s desk on Wednesday, November 17, Dorian trips an alarm and is caught red-handed by Matthew.  After worming her way out of a tight spot, Dorian meets up with Viki.  Putting their heads together, the two women quickly realize that Clint forged the Rick/Lili letters and sent Rex on a dead end on Thursday, November 18.  Across town, Clint obtains a key card for the gentics lab where the test is bing conducted. Rex and Gigi patch things up, and finally have sex on Friday, November 19.  Viki confronts Clint with Dorian’s assumption that his having half of the necklace indicates that he is really Rex’s father.  Echo nearly confesses the truth to Charlie.  Viki returns the other half of the necklace to Echo.  Clint gives one of his employees two specific orders, and later joins Viki, Charlie, Echo, and Rex as the DNA test results are about to be announced.

      A Closer Look: Vengence

Marty gets proof regarding why Natalie had a DNA test performed, and decides to pay Jessica a visit on Tuesday, November 16.  Vivian tells Natalie that Marty has stolen her amino records.  At the same time, Marty impersonates Natalie while calling the DNA lab and considers showing Brody’s psychiartic records to Jessica.  By Wednesday, November 17, Brody realizes Marty knows the truth and threatens to get her fired if she doesn’t keep her big mouth shut.  John gives Blair a mysterious box Eli left for her.  Brody tells Natalie that he thinks he was able to convince Marty to back off on Friday, November 19.  Meanwhile, Marty’s day goes from bad to worse when Todd presents her with a document asking her to give up her rights to Hope.  And Jessica and Brody open the results of their DNA test, as does Natalie.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — Could “One Life to Live” be on the verge of getting a new opening? Erika Slezak (Viki) discusses the possibility in her latest online fan club newsletter.

In the November edition of her newsletter Slezak was asked by her fan club president Walter Miller if she had shot any new pictures for “OLTL’s” opening sequence, which hasn’t been overhauled since 2004. Although the longtime vet stated that she hadn’t, she did hint at the fact that a new or updated opening may be in the offing for the ABC soap.

According to Slezak, “I think Frank [Valentini] is doing a new opening, but I’m not sure whether he is going to replace pictures. You know what? It all costs money.”

So perhaps “OLTL” will go the “General Hospital” route and get a somewhat revamped opening sequence (updated graphics and pictures with the same music). Or at the very least it appears that, if nothing else, we can expect an updated opening with new contract cast members added and the removal of those no longer on the show.

On a related note, the six-time Daytime Emmy winner reveals that Valentini is apparently finally making good on his promise to film new bumpers for every contract cast member, stating that, while she hasn’t taped one yet, “we’re going to be shooting those.”

In addition, Slezak also notes that her co-star Brian Kerwin (Charlie) will be taking a hiatus from “One Life to Live” from mid-December through the end of January to perform in a play in San Diego. However, Charlie fans shouldn’t fear because Slezak notes that he will pre-tape additional scenes before he leaves for the West Coast, as well as post-tape scenes when he returns to the set.

Lastly, she confirms that she recently had a pre-cancerous lesion removed from her forehead, hence Viki’s explanation to Dorian in a recent scene on the show about why she had a band-aid over her eye.

        In other news…

James Saito plays Judge Lee on January 3rd and 4th.

Upcoming airdates for Josh Wesley Shipp (Eddie) in the coming weeks include November 24th, 29th, and 30th, as well as December 1st, 2nd, 7th, 8th, 10th, 13th, 14th, 15th, and 17th. Also look for Nic Robuck (James) on November 24th and 30th as well as December 1st and 2nd, among other dates.

Kassie DePaiva (Blair) had nothing but good things to do about her day working with Kourtney Kardashian on set, tweeting “Kourtney is really sweet…and she is beautiful too! David [Fumero] and I had a good time working with Kourtney. She worked really hard and I think her fans will love her debut as a daytime diva. She was a delight.”

“OLTL” Music Director Paul Glass tweets that the song Kelley Missal (Dani) sung during the November 11th episode “is not commercially available.”

And Brittany Underwood (Langston) comments that she was on set Thursday, as were David A. Gregory (Ford) and Nic Robuck (James), and posted this picture of the guys relaxing in her and co-star Kristen Alderson‘s (Starr) dressing room.

          ‘OLTL’ November Casting Notes

Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 2:30 AM ET by Scotty Gore

          Photo: ABC

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) – The latest “One Life to Live” comings and goings.

Austin Williams is back on Wednesday, November 24th when Shane begins to bond with his new Granny Echo. But don’t expect Rex’s mum to be quite so friendly to Gigi, however.

Rumor has it that Christmas holiday will mean a few more appearances for Todd’s sons Jack (Carmen LoPorto) and Sam (Jacob & Luke Clodfelter).

Terri Colombino‘s new “OLTL” character Aubrey now has a last name — Wentworth. Look for Aubrey, who is Joey Buchanan’s latest squeeze, to first air on Monday, November 29th.

Terrell Tilford‘s (Greg Evans) days in Llanview are nearly up. Tilford, who joined “OLTL” in 2008 and ran in the New York City Marathon last weekend, mentions on his Facebook page that is last airdate will either be Tuesday, November 16th or Wednesday, November 17th.

Have viewers seen the last of Meghann Fahy as Hannah O’Conner?  It would appear that way, but you can never say never when it comes to “One Life to Live.”

Looks like another medical drama may be in the works for the residents of Llanview. Mellini Kantayya, who plays one of “OLTL’s” recurring dayplayer Nurses, has been back on the “One Life” set taping more scenes recently. The actress tells Soaps.com that “I’m always excited to return to my nursing duties at Llanview Hospital. No spoilers here, but the Llanview Hospital set always means exciting episodes are around bend!”

Richard Chew will play “Lab Tech #3″ on Friday, November 15th. According to IMDb.com, that particular episode was directed by Zeta Fuentes, Mary Ryan, and “OLTL” Executive Producer Frank Valentini, and was produced by John Tumino.

Andrea Bordeaux posted on her blog on October 27th that she “had an audition for a recurring role on ‘One Life to Live.’ It was rescheduled for November 2nd.” No further information is available at this time.

John Wesley Shipp (Eddie Ford) wrote (among other things) on his Facebook page Wednesday (November 10th) that “Pleased with today. We all settled in a notch from Monday. Delirious about the reactions I’m getting. So cool. Gnite. (I think next week Dad gets a hooker! far out).”

David A. Gregory (Ford) has listed his airdates for the remainder of the month of November. They include the 11th, 12th, 15th, 19th, 22nd, 24th, 29th, and 30th.

Nick Coleman taped more scenes as the dayplayer cop “Officer Coleman” in late September.

Look for more dayplayer roles in upcoming episodes.

“One Life to Live” has released three new audition scripts. The first is for the role of “Michelle.” The scene opens with Michelle telling “Rich” that she bumped into “Alex” and “Lilly.” Rich tells her that he wasn’t aware the three of them even knew one other. Michelle says that they are in her English Literature class, but she never officially meet them until now. She then asks Rich how “Dean” is doing, to which he responds that he isn’t sure, due to the fact that everyone has been banished from the courtroom. Michelle thinks it is wrong, since he and Rich are family after all. However, Rich retorts that they can’t fight a court order. Trying to break the tension, Michelle tells Rich that she has to turn the names in the next day of those planning to attend her sorority’s Valentine’s Day dance. She reminds him that she is on the planning committee for the dance, and asks him if he wants to go with her. Rich replies that he would enjoy escorting her to the party. As the scene ends, Michelle assures him that they will have a great time, and that she has a committee meeting to get to but that she will talk to him again later.

The second script for the role of “Mick.” The scene opens with “Kit” jumping on an exercise bike at the gym that Mick claims is the one he always uses to work out on. Mick orders her to get off of “his machine” and go play on one of the girls’ exercise bikes. “Alex” walks over and points out that Kit was there first. Mick gets angry, and Kit tells Alex thanks, but that she doesn’t need his help. Mick tells him to beat it. Kit explains that she can take care of herself just fine, and that Alex thinks just because he’s a boxer, that he has to be her protector. Confused, Mick asks Alex if he is really a boxer, to which Alex responds yes and proceeds to punch him in the jaw. Mick asks him what the hell is problem is, to which Alex apologizes. Kit then examines Mick and says that it looks like his jaw may be broken and that he should go to the hospital to have it checked out. She then goes on to say that she could get him a hefty six figure check for that. Alex speaks up and says that he doesn’t have that kind of money, however Kit says that the gym would have to pay half of the costs. Mick says it sounds like a good idea to him, despite Alex’s protests. Kit reminds Alex that she can do whatever she wants since she is a personal injury attorney after all. Mick calls her an ambulance chaser and that she is his kind of woman. Kit asks him if he just say what she thought he said. Mick responds that yes, he did call her an ambulance chaser and asks what she is going to do about it. As the scene ends, Kit punches Mick in the jaw as well.

The final script is for “Nurse #1.” The scene opens with “Sara Stein” telling the Nurse that she needs to find “John” for her. Trying to calm her down, she tells her to try and relax and that the attending doctor will be in momentarily. However, Sara pleads with the Nurse to help her, claiming that someone is trying to steal her baby and asks if she has any children of her own. The Nurse responds that she has a son. Sara asks her how she would feel if someone stole him from her and tried to pass him off as their own child. The Nurse again asks Sara to calm down or else she will have to be sedated. Nonetheless, Sara continues to claim that they’re trying to steal her baby. The Nurse says sorry to hear that but that she will have to stop pushing her. As the scene ends, Sara says she had to because she wouldn’t let her tell about the baby. The Nurse asks Sara one more time to calm down.

Remember that “One Life to Live” frequently changes character names in audition scripts to try and throw off viewers.

          From the Twitter files…

Kristen Alderson (Starr) tweeted on Tuesday that she had “EARLY EARLY wake-up time! Shooting something for SOAPnet all day! Pretty excited about it. Such a fun/long day of shooting for SOAPnet. Can’t wait to see the final product.” She also posted this picture of herself and her teenage co-stars during rehearsal for “OLTL” on Monday (Nov. 8th). And on November 4th she wrote that she had a “13 hour day of work today & had an 11 hour day yesterday….lol tomorrow brings a whole new meaning to TGIF. JK I seriously love my job!

Kassie DePaiva (Blair) writes that “Kristen was so good today [Nov. 10th] on the show. I will miss Starr and Cole.”

And Melissa Archer (Natalie) commented on Nov. 6th that she was “Having an awesome time staying up all nite at Walgreens shoot!!”

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — “General Hospital” alum Ted King has been cast in a new role by “One Life to Live.”

According to Entertainment Weekly King, best known for his portrayal of Lorenzo Alcazar (as well as his twin brother Luis) on “GH” from 2002-2007, is currently working with producers at the ABC sudser to develop his character, which is also named Luis.

King tells the media outlet “We’re creating this together.  It was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up on. When I was originally hired (for ‘GH’), it was for a short period of time. I had every attention of going back to primetime. But during that time, I really enjoyed myself with the role – a lot more than I thought.”

In addition to his work on “GH,” King has also appeared in “Another World,” “Loving,” “The City,” “Charmed,” “Fraiser,” “Sex & the City,” and “Prison Break.”

Although the network has remained largely silent on the details surrounding King’s arrival in Llanview, they have revealed that his character will be interacting with Blair Cramer (Kassie DePaiva) and that his first airdate will be Friday, January 21st, 2011.

“One Life to Live” airs Weekdays on ABC. Weeknights on SOAPnet. Anytime on ABC.com and SOAPnet.com. Check local listings.
