During a recent “Days of our Lives” fan event, actor Drake Hogestyn (John Black) told Soap Opera Network that he’d signed a new contract with the sudser, but that’s not all the actor revealed! He’s got a pretty good idea of upcoming story for his alter ego, and he assured us that loyal viewers just might get exactly what they wish for when it comes to the popular pairing of John and Marlena (Deidre Hall).
First thing’s first: Hogestyn admits that it’s sometimes tough to justify the actions his character takes — like John’s choice to break apart Brady (Eric Martsolf) and Kristen (Eileen Davidson) by convincing people that Kristen wanted him for herself — but he says his job isn’t to justify them at all. “You are called talent, and you don’t write the show. Your responsibility is to pick up a script and to the best of your ability, you bring [the writers’] vision onto the screen, regardless of what your interpretation is,” he explains. “You can’t change plot logic or character shading. Even if you develop a character for 25, 28 years, your job as talent is to look at the story and take that story and move it forward in the vision of the writers. And that is the respect that every actor has to have. Once you start blurring that line or changing plot logic, character shading, it just muddies the water and nobody wins.”
As we previously reported, Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco Jones, “General Hospital;” ex-Dominick Marone, “The Bold and the Beautiful”) and “Good Morning America’s” Cameron Mathison (ex-Ryan Lavery, “All My Children”) have teamed up for a Hallmark Channel project, and the network has released new details. “My Gal Sunday,” which was once rumored to be a pilot for a possible primetime series, has now been confirmed as a Hallmark Movie Channel Original World Premiere movie!
The romantic drama (based of the book of short stories of the same name by author Mary Higgins Clark) follows a husband and wife duo (Mathison and “Clueless” star Rachel Blanchard) whose private eye backgrounds and political ties place them smack dab in the middle of intrigue and scandal.
Actress Paula Garces (“Devious Maids;” ex-Lea Marquez, “All My Children”) and her husband, Antonio Hernandez, have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving: On Wednesday, November 20, the couple welcomed their first child together into the world!
“After a difficult 14-hour labor, my mom had to have an emergency c-section,” the actress’ daughter, Skye, told People of her new sibling, Antonio Andres Hernandez. “My brother was born beautiful and healthy, thank God, and mom is doing well, also.”
Congratulations to the family!
Longtime viewers of “Days of our Lives” have seen Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) live up to his last name on more than one occasion. The recovering addict has experienced a lot of misery in his life — both of others’ doing, as well as his own — which has led him down some pretty dark paths in recent years. But when Soap Opera Network caught up with Martsolf to discuss his alter ego’s weeks ahead, the Pennsylvania native revealed that Kristen’s betrayal has sent Brady reeling — and this time, the CEO’s dark descent into addiction, depression and self-destruction might take him so far down, he won’t be able to get back up!
It’s not uncommon for soap opera stars to appear in music videos (we’ve even done features about it in the past), but “General Hospital’s” Sean Kanan (A.J. Quartermaine; ex-Deacon Sharpe, “The Bold and the Beautiful”/“The Young and the Restless”) and his wife, Michele Kanan, have turned the tables: The duo actually made their own music video specifically about the genre!
If you’ve been enjoying the dynamic between “Days of our Lives” Theresa (Jen Lilley), Shane (Charles Shaughnessy) and Kimberly (Patsy Pease), you’re not the only one! Shaughnessy and Pease shared their thoughts on the parent/daughter relationship with Soap Opera Network last week, and Lilley is now weighing in on the dramatic storyline!
“Oh, Theresa is not happy about her parents dropping into Salem at all!” the Virginia native says with a laugh, explaining that Shane and Kimberly haven’t exactly been the greatest parents of all time. “Kimberly had a sordid past… We’ve all made mistakes. I think if you’re a human being, and you’ve lived under the sun, we’ve all done something we’ve regretted. And Kimberly did turn her past around. She became a child psychologist, [but because of that], she and Theresa have had a rough relationship. Kimberly was always trying to psychoanalyze her, she’s always trying to diagnose her, which is really hard. Theresa felt like her whole life, she was Kimberly’s patient and not her daughter. And then Shane was the dad who would swoop in randomly and be try to be like, ‘You should listen to your mother!’ And it’s like, ‘Dude, you’re a spy, and I really don’t even know you.’ So I think she’s uncomfortable with the weight of the world that’s hit her.”
This week on “Days of our Lives,” the heat between Daniel (Shawn Christian) and Nicole (Arianne Zucker) builds to an exciting kiss between the pair! But will the scintillating smooch be a game changer? Soap Opera Network caught up with both actors to find out!
Daniel and Nicole have been on the hunt to try and save Eric’s (Greg Vaughan) reputation, and everyone knows that when a male and a female go on a perilous adventure together, sparks are bound to fly! “You’ve got two very tumultuous, passionate, intense characters, very unpredictable characters, who find themselves in the circumstance of trying to help Eric, and then, as they go on this crazy, wild adventure – we jokingly called it Gun and Needles at one point, because we have guns and needles –they’re doing something with so much intensity, and they get caught up in the adrenaline of the moment,” Christian shares of the kiss. “Not to mention, the history that they’ve always shared seems to bubble under the surface no matter what they’re doing, whether it’s having each other’s backs or trying to save Eric or trying to figure out Daniel’s life with Jennifer (Melissa Reeves). They’ve grown so close together as people who sincerely care a lot about one another, and they know the worst about each other, and they know the best about each other. So you mix into that melting pot some adrenaline, and the sky is the limit.”
As we previously reported, “Days of our Lives’” Freddie Smith (Sonny Kiriakis) revealed to Soap Opera Network that Guy Wilson will replace Chandler Massey onscreen in the role of Will Horton beginning in January 2014. And now, we have the details of the transition, including Smith’s thoughts on the controversial super-quick recast and how Wilson is fitting into the role.
“I’m the middle man who keeps getting asked about it,” Smith says with a laugh over being slightly hounded by the media to comment on Massey’s departure and Wilson’s start in the role. “But basically, what’s most important is that the storyline continues on, because it’s a wonderful story. I’ve had so much positive feedback, and it’s really been life changing for some people. And to think our work can do that? It’s really cool. It’s helped people come out of the closet and tell their parents, and it’s great. I miss Chandler. We started this journey together. But I also love working with Guy. He’s an incredible person.”
When the news broke that Charles Shaughnessy and Patsy Pease were headed back to “Days of our Lives” as Shane and Kimberly, daytime fans went wild. The two halves of the show’s former supercouple haven’t been in Salem at the same time since Alice’s funeral over three years ago, so their brief return — placed right in the midst of November Sweeps — has been viewed as an early holiday present by many. But as both actors tell Soap Opera Network, their quick drop into Salem won’t exactly be merry and bright, considering their onscreen daughter’s (Theresa, Jen Lilley) drug overdose is what brings them back to town! Read on for the full storyline scoop as well as Pease and Shaughnessy’s thoughts about returning to the soap that helped make them household names!
Get ready for your jaws to drop, because the battle over “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” just got a hell of a lot uglier! In addition to the lawsuit that Prospect Park launched against ABC this April for the alleged sabotage of the company’s efforts to move the two sudsers online, the plaintiff filed a new amended complaint today with more details regarding the alphabet network’s alleged fraud and a claim that ABC schemed to create a “mega soap.” And guess what? It all comes with a demand for more than $95 million in damages!
