As “General Hospital’s” executive producer, Frank Valentini, recently revealed to Soap Opera Network, the next few months of the iconic soap opera are going to be filled with can’t-miss-television. And Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Falconeri) says that part of the excitement to come will definitely include some twists and turns in the complicated baby situation his alter ego is caught in with Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) and Lulu Spencer (Emme Rylan).

“As far as I know, there’s going to be a lot more baby drama, which I love,” he tells Soap Opera Network. “Just when you think it’s going to be concluded, it won’t be! The conclusion that you guys think is happening, which I think is in the works, is not as simple as what you think it might be. Don’t underestimate Britt Westbourne, that’s all I can say! She’s a nut bag. She’s smart and conniving.”

It seems like just yesterday that the world was ready to nail the lid on the coffin of daytime soap operas. Ratings were low across the board, and a slew of sudsers — “Guiding Light,” “As the World Turns,” “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” — were cancelled, leaving only “Days of our Lives,” “General Hospital,” “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless” on the air. But to the surprise of critics and many soap fans, 2013 saw a drastic turnaround: All four remaining soap operas saw a significant increase in ratings, and “The Young and the Restless” once again made a list of the top 10 most-searched television programs of the year, among popular series like “Breaking Bad” and “The Walking Dead.” So why the complete 180 in daytime soap popularity?

Soap Opera Network recently attended an event at The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, where soap opera insiders like John McCook (Eric Forrester, “B&B”), Anthony Geary (Luke Spencer, “GH”), Marnie Saaita (casting director for “DAYS”) and Michael Maloney (author of “The Young and Restless Life of William J. Bell: Creator of The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful”) discussed the recent resurgence and more. Read on to find out what these soap opera experts had to say about the genre’s past, present and future!

As we previously reported, celebrity wedding and event planner David Tutera is headed to “The Young and the Restless,” where he’ll help Neil (Kristoff St. John) and Leslie (Angell Conwell) plan their upcoming wedding. And guess what? Soap Opera Network managed to snag an interview with the busy “My Fair Wedding” star to get the scoop on his visit to Genoa City!

With previous clients like Jennifer Lopez, Matthew McConaughey, Elton John and Susan Lucci (ex-Erica Kane, “All My Children”), Tutera certainly knows a thing or two about throwing jaw-dropping, impressive parties. But acting? Not so much! “They called on me obviously to play the role as myself, and I’m not an actor, so I was wondering, ‘How can I do this?’” he says with a laugh. “But… it was incredibly fun. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever done before.”
