Pine Valley and the ‘L’ Word

Wednesday, October 1, 2008 1:48 AM EST | By Angela Rosa

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — Bianca’s back from Paris with a few surprises.

ABC confirms that both Tamara Braun and Eden Riegel have signed contracts with “All My Children,” but the lengths of those contracts have not been revealed.

Tamara Braun is joining the cast of “AMC” as Bianca Montgomery’s (Eden Riegel) girlfriend, Reese Williams, who is described as a “confident and successful architect.” Braun is best known for her work on “AMC’s” sister soap “General Hospital.” The Emmy-nominated actress played the second incarnation of Carly Corinthos from 2001 until 2005. Braun’s last role on daytime was at NBC’s “Days of Our Lives” where she played the troubled Ava Vitali for a six month period in 2008. On Reese’s upcoming storyline, Braun tells Soap In Depth, “where this is going, I don’t know that this storyline has ever been done in daytime.”

As previously reported by Soap Opera Network, Riegel is returning to “AMC,” as well, as the popular Bianca Montgomery. Riegel played Erica Kane’s (Susan Lucci) tortured youngest daughter from 2000 until February 2005. The actress was nominated for several Daytime Emmy’s in that time, and finally took home the award in 2005. This will be Riegel’s third … uhm, no actually seventh return to “AMC” since her 2005 exit. Riegel’s longest return started in October of 2006 when the actress initially signed on for a three month contract that extended to six; her last return was in December of 2007.

Braun’s Reese won’t show up until Thursday, October 30, although her girlfriend Bianca first airs on Friday, October 17, when her brother-in-law, Zach Slater (Thorsten Kaye), finds her buried under some rubble that the tornado, that’s due to hit Pine Valley during the week of October 13, leaves behind. Word is that, despite Reese’s delay, Bianca will not be returning home all alone – and we don’t mean with her sweet daughter, Miranda. Speaking of Miranda, Haley Evans will reclaim her role and is scheduled to start taping soon.

In non-related “AMC” casting news, Shannon Kane will be portraying Natalia, the young woman from Jesse’s past that SON previously reported about. The role is contract.

“All My Children” airs Weekdays on ABC. Weeknights on SOAPnet. Check local listings.

    (SoapOperaNetwork.com) — The prodigal son.

Jeff Branson is “Guiding Light’s” lucky seventh incarnation of Shayne Lewis.

Branson is most known for playing the role of Jonathan Lavery on ABC’s “All My Children.” The Emmy-nominated actor played the role of reformed serial killer Jonathan from June, 2004 until “AMC” stopped calling him in for tapings in late 2007. In the spring of 2008, the show officially announced that Branson had been let go. Ironically enough, Branson’s first role on daytime was a day role on “GL” as a young Alan Spaulding in 2003.

Shayne Lewis is the son of “GL’s” biggest super couple Reva Shayne and Joshua Lewis (Kim Zimmer and Robert Newman). The character was last seen on August 16, 2004 played by played by Marty West. Shayne’s return will be a welcomed surprise for his family; the Lewis’ have recently learned that Shayne is missing in Afghanistan.

Branson’s first airdate on “GL” is December 1.

      (SoapOperaNetwork.com) — The look.

Former “Passions” hunks Galen Gering and Eric Martsolf are joining the cast of NBC’s “Days of Our Lives.”

Galen Gering played the very popular Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald on the now defunct soap, “Passions,” from it’s inception on NBC on July 5, 1999 to it’s cancellation on DirectTV on August 7, 2008. The 37 year-old actor has been cast in the role of an FBI Agent who comes to Salem working on a special case. Gering first airs on “DAYS” in late October. Word is that Gering’s character will be involved with Alison Sweeney’s character, Sami Brady.

        ‘AMC’s’ Fall Returns

Wednesday, September 17, 2008 2:30 PM EST | By Angela Rosa

        (SoapOperaNetwork.com) — The healing touch.

Vincent Irizarry returns to “All My Children,” as Dr. David Hayward, on October, 23, one week after a devastating tornado hits the little town that the troublemaking doctor left behind almost two years to the date. Could David’s return have something to do with an ominous warning Opal (Jill Larson) issues to both Krystal Carey (Bobbie Eakes), the mother of David’s only living child, and the doctor’s former lover, Erica Kane (Susan Lucci), in the coming weeks or will we learn that the doctor has been lurking in the shadows all along?

Irizarry started his daytime career on CBS’s “Guiding Light” where he played the popular Lujack Luvonaczek. The Emmy-nominated actor joined the cast of ABC’s “AMC” in 1997 where he would play Dr. Hayward until he was given the pink slip in late 2006. CBS’s number one rated soap “The Young and the Restless” quickly picked up the talented actor for the role of David Chow. Irizarry played this incarnation of David from January 2007 until last August when the unpopular character was killed off.

“AMC” head writer Charles Pratt reports that the evil wind that blows through Pine Valley will also pave the path for the return of “probably the most loved character of the last 10 years that’s been on “AMC,” and that’s Bianca.” Eden Riegel is returning to “AMC” as Bianca Montgomery, again. Riegel tells ABC Soaps In Depth that she’s “not just stopping in,” she’s back with a contract. Pratt hints to the magazine that Bianca’s return with coincide with her “ever-suffering family going through one mother of a rough patch;” though it likely won’t be the only tragedy striking the family following the disaster that hits Pine Valley next month, a cryptic Pratt hints of Bianca being there in the wake of an all new horribleness that befalls Zach and Kendall (Thorsten Kaye and Alicia Minshew) that she’ll help heal.

Pratt also reports that their will be three other surprise arrivals aside from Riegel’s – but points out that two of those arrivals will be directly connected to the character of Bianca’s return. Pratt previously reported to TV Guide that “a character from Erica Kane’s past returns to fundamentally change her life;” while that could mean anybody from her aforementioned daughter, Bianca, to Dr. Hayward, Soap Opera Network speculates that this may be one of those still to be announced surprise returns.

In other “AMC” news, the role of Natalia has been cast. The character, likely one of those faces from Jesse’s past promised by Pratt in his fall previews, will start appearing regularly in early October. The character will indeed be circling the Hubbard family.

“All My Children” airs Weekdays on ABC. Weeknights on SOAPnet. Check local listings.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — Susan Lucci is due to find out the answer to that age old question: Is it more easy to win a snazzy disco ball trophy or a Daytime Emmy?

The internet web site Gossip Sauce announced the stars of the new season of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” last week. On the morning of Monday, August 25, “Good Morning America” confirmed most of that list with the official announcement of the roster for the seventh season of the popular reality-competition series.

“All My Children’s” Susan Lucci, 61, will take on the torch of representing daytime television when the dance competition premieres this fall; she will be partnered with Tony Dovolani. After a rough start, “General Hospital” star Kelly Monaco was eventually crowned the champion on the inaugural season of “DWTS;” Lucci’s co-star Cameron Mathison finished the competition in fifth place in season five; former soap stars Lisa Rinna (NBC’s “Days of Our Lives”) and Mario Lopez (CBS’s “The Bold and the Beautiful”) also competed in the competition; Rinna finished in forth place in season two, while Lopez was runner-up to season three winner Emmitt Smith.

In the history of popular culture, it is likely that there will never come into existence an actor more synonymous with the medium of the daytime serial than “AMC’s” petite star. Thirty-eight years on the popular daytime serial, and a marriage or twelve for her alter ego Erica Kane, has contributed to Lucci’s fame, but it was eighteen Daytime Emmy nominations in the lead actress category, including an astounding streak of 14 consecutive nominations from 1980-1993, without a win that made her into a household name. Lucci’s streak made the Daytime Emmy’s must-see television through 1999, when Lucci finally took home the elusive award. During the losing streak, Lucci was invited to host NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” an impressive feat for a daytime actor. Lucci has appeared on numerous made for television movies, as a commercial spokesperson for many products including Ford automobiles, starred on Broadway and is also a successful businesswoman/entrepreneur.

The rest of season seven’s competitors include:

          • Film and television star, Cloris Leachman, 82. The oft-time comedic actress (“The Facts of Life” and “Malcolm in the Middle”) and legend has won eight Primetime Emmy’s, one Daytime Emmy and a measly Oscar as well. Leachman is the oldest star to ever compete on the dance show, Wayne Newton, 65, formerly held that distinction. Corky Ballas, father of Mark Ballas, will be Leachman’s dance partner.
          • Comedic actor Ted McGinley, 50. McGinley is best known for his stint on FOX’s raunchy comedy “Married with Children” where he played Jefferson D’Arcy from 1991-1997; he also played Charley Shanowski on the former ABC sitcom “Hope & Faith.” McGinley will be paired with “DWTS” newcomer Inna Braye.
          • Professional beach volleyball player Misty May-Treanor, 31, who just took home a gold medal with teammate, Kerri Walsh, at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. May-Treanor is not used to defeat; she and Walsh have not lost a beach volleyball game in a whopping 103 matches. May-Treanor will dance with the sexy Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
          • Olympic champion sprinter Maurice Greene, 34. Greene earned two gold medals in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and a Silver and Bronze Medal in the 2004 Athens Olympics. Greene is paired with another two-time champion, Cheryl Burke.
          • 2003 Super Bowl champion, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Warren Sapp, 35. The retired football’s player talent and popularity earned him seven trips to the Pro Bowl. Sapp will dance with Kim Johnson.
