THE SCOOP

Vanessa Williams (Valerie Grant) has been removed from the contract list at NBC’s “Days of our Lives,” reports website Jason47. Her removal confirms reports that the actress quietly vacated the role earlier this year and is not expected to return to the soap. The actress last appeared as a contract player on the show on Wednesday, November 21, and episodes aired since no longer list her name among the top players at the daytime drama series.

Although she’ll no longer appear on the soap, look for Abe (James Reynolds) to lose his temper with Sheila (Tionne Watkins) after receiving some disappointing news (presumably off screen) from Valerie on the Thursday, December 6 episode of “DAYS.”

Williams, who first joined the on screen cast of “DAYS” in October 2016, is currently starring in the UMC original series “40 and Single,” and next year will star alongside Janet Hubert (“General Hospital,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”) in the TV series “Ward of the State.” No word yet on where the show will air.

“Was so happy to bring Valerie back to life! Whoop whoop!” commented Williams in late October when a fan created a collage of her character in celebration of the two year anniversary of her first appearance on the soap.

Soap Fact: Of the three actresses that have taken on the role of Valerie Grant since she first hit Salem in 1975, none have lasted longer than two years. Tina Andrews played the role from 1975-77, Diane Sommerfield from 1981-82 and Williams from October 2016 through November 2018.
