Gilles Marini Returning to ‘Switched at Birth’

There will be a special guest on the 100th episode of “Switched at Birth.” Gilles Marini, who played Bay (Vanessa Marano) and Daphne’s (Katie Leclerc) father, Angelo Sorrento, is returning to the Freeform series.

TVLine first reported the news, however, had no details about how Angelo would fit into the story. His character was killed of the show at the end of Season 3 from injuries he sustained in a car crash, following a major fight with Regina (Constance Marie). Daphne, in fact, long held her mother responsible for his untimely death.

The obvious scenarios for Angelo’s return would be either in a dream sequence or a flashback. Perhaps one of his daughters, needing guidance, will dream about getting some words of wisdom and advice from her departed dad. Or maybe Regina will remember back to her early romance with Angelo.

In a 2014 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Marini discussed Angelo’s demise, noting that he learned about the plot twist two weeks prior to it actually happening. It was during a meeting with the show’s executive producer Lizzy Weiss.

“We all talked about doing something pretty drastic,” shared Marini. “I wanted to have something meatier and strong for my character. We thought it would eventually help the show bring new storylines and a lot of drama.”

Marini also addressed the possibility of returning the series in some capacity at a point down the line.

“I think, yes, I might come back once or twice in flashbacks or a ‘what if’ episode,” said Marini. “I told Lizzy, ‘Anytime I’m free, I’m yours!'”

Now that time is just around the corner. “Switched at Birth” will debut its fifth season this spring. The show airs Monday nights at 8pm on Freeform.
