In case you missed it in theaters, “General Hospital’s” Lexi Ainsworth (Kristina Corinthos-Davis) and “The Young and the Restless'” Hunter King‘s (Summer Newman) movie, “A Girl Like Her,” has been released on DVD, Digital HD and On Demand.
The film, which came out in March 2015, explores a topical subject, bullying. Ainsworth plays Jessica Burns, a teenager who enlists the help of her best friend, Brian Slater (Jimmy Bennett), to document the harassment she’s received from her former pal and popular South Brookdale High School student, Avery Keller (King). With the use of a hidden digital camera, Jessica and Brian capture Avery’s relentless bullying and she’s finally exposed; bringing both girls and their families face-to-face with the ugly truth.
In an interview with Young Hollywood, before the film’s theatrical release, King noted that physically bullying the character of Jessica was a challenging task. “Getting into the head space of Avery was really difficult…I was emotionally drained from how exhausting the scenes were for me,” shared King.
To prep for her role as the victim, Ainsworth did some research. “I have found YouTube to be a great source for real-life documentation,” Ainsworth explained. “I was so moved by the videos people posted about their experience with bullying that our director, Amy, didn’t believe me when she asked if I had any personal experience with being bullied. Their stories are so powerful and deeply upsetting to me. I can’t fathom anyone watching them and remain unaffected.”
