After struggling in the fall, ABC’s “The View” appears to be turning things around. The daytime talk show, along with network counterpart “The Chew,” attracted their largest audiences in a year, according to newly released Nielsen Media Research ratings data for the week of January 18-22, 2016.
With 2.957 million Total Viewers, 611,000 Women 25-54 viewers and 425,000 viewers in Women 18-49, “The View” posted its strongest performance in the former two categories in 11 months — since weeks of 2/23/15 and 3/2/15, respectively, and out-delivered its November 2015 sweeps performance in all categories: Total Viewers (+336,000), Women 25-54 (+85,000) and Women 18-49 (+37,000).
“The View” beat “The Talk” in Women 18-49 (425,000 vs. 422, 000) and virtually tied the CBS talk show in Women 25-54 (611,000 vs. 612,000). Only 60,000 viewers separated “The View” from “The Talk” for the lead in total audience (2.957 million vs. 3.017 million). NBC’s competing “Today Show III” (aka: the Kathie Lee and Hoda hour) averaged 2.747 million viewers, 642,000 Women 25-54 and 505,000 viewers in Women 18-49.
As for “The Chew,” the foodie talk show hit a near 1-year high in Total Viewers (2.893 million), Women 18-49 (452,000/0.7 rating) and Women 25-54 (591,000/1.0 rating) – since weeks of 2/16/15, 2/23/15 and 2/23/15, respectively.
The Friday, January 22 telecast, which featured guests Toni Braxton and Romany Malco as part of “The Chew’s 5th Annual Slumber Party,” marked the show’s most watched telecast in nearly 1 Year in Women 18-49 (525,000/0.8 rating) and Women 25-54 (659,000/1.1 rating), and its most watched non-holiday-week telecast in close to 1 year in Total Viewers (3.064 million) – since 2/17/15, 3/5/15 and 3/2/15, respectively.
