“For more than two decades David Canary defined daytime drama on ABC.  Our hearts go out to his family and we mourn his passing,” said the network in a statement.

Melissa Claire Egan (ex-Annie Lavery, AMC; Chelsea, “The Young and the Restless”) tweeted, “I was so lucky to know him, work with him, even marry him on tv. David Canary was a love, a kind gentleman, & true talent.”

Carrie Genzel (ex-Skye Chandler, AMC) wrote a touching tribute to the actor on her Facebook page. “I had recently posted this pic remembering what an amazing experience it was to have worked with David Canary on All My Children, and with great sadness I posted it again today as I found out he passed away November 16th. David was such a shining star, so full of light and fun, and also a very kind and caring man, I always referred to him as my New York Dad, and he always will be. My heart goes out to his lovely wife Maureen and his two children. His memory and legacy will go on.”

Jacob Young (ex-JR Chandler, AMC; Rick Forrester, “The Bold and the Beautiful”) shared, “David, you were a mentor a friend and of course a father to me. I have learned so much from you. You taught me how to be a better actor and better gentleman. The world just lost one of the greatest. I will miss you so. I love you. #AMC #allmychildren #adamchandler #stuartchandler #myfriend.”

Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley Santos, AMC) posted: “So sad to learn of the passing of the great David Canary. A incredibly talented actor. A wonderful man. I was lucky to know you.”

A stunned Debbi Morgan (ex-Angie, AMC) reacted with the following: “OMG! I’m just hearing that my fellow castmate , the legendary David Canary passed away & I’m beyond heartbroken! Will miss u so much, David! My heart goes out 2 the Canary’s. David was one of the kindest & humble spirits I’ve ever had the good fortune of working with. God Bless!”
