NBC Gives Put Pilot Order to New Soapy Family Drama From ‘Empire’ Producer Imagine TV

NBC is looking for its own "Empire" after giving a put pilot order to a soapy family drama with a musical backdrop from Imagine Television.

Barely a day after reporting news of broadcast networks looking for more soaps on their primetime schedules, Deadline is reporting that NBC has given a put pilot order for an untitled soapy family drama from “Empire” producers Imagine TV, “How To Make It In America” creator Ian Edelman and “The Devil Wears Prada” director David Frankel.

Like the FOX primetime hit, the potential new series will also include a musical connection, but instead of being about the industry itself, it’ll take place in the Cuban exiles of Miami.

The untitled series will be take on a Cain and Abel feeling as it’ll be told through the lives of two very different Cuban brothers and their families with life in Miami as the backdrop. The story will include a collision of boxers, models, artists, gangsters and billionaires as they fight for the pursuit of the American dream.

Edelman will executive produce with Frankel and Imagine’s Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo.
