The Young and the Restless” has cast “Home and Away” alum Lachlan Buchanan in the contract role of Kyle Jenkins, the son of Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and Diane Jenkins (last played by “General Hospital’s” Maura West). The actor will report to work at the CBS Television City studio, where “Y&R” is filmed, beginning Tuesday, January 27. His first airdate is set for Wednesday, February 25.

In addition to a starring role on the Australian soap, Buchanan has appeared in episodes of “NCIS: Los Angeles,” “Castle,” “Jessie,” “Hung” and “Pretty Little Liars,” among others. He’s set to appear as Troit in horror film “Muck” set for release sometime this year and its sequel, “Muck: Feast of Saint Patrick,” set for release in 2016.

“So excited to start my new adventure with the team at #theyoungandrestless @gregrikaart Let the silliness begin! #cbs #cbsdaytime #TV #soapopera,” wrote Buchanan on his Instagram and Twitter pages, which included a piece of paper displaying the “Y&R” logo.

“Promise I won’t prank you TOO much ;),” commented Buchanan after new co-star, Greg Rikaart, who portrays Kevin Fisher on the daytime drama series, welcomed the actor to the cast.

“@lachlanbuchanan I wish I could say the same, mate, but I will make no such promises. #YR,” replied Rikaart. “Game On Rickaart ;),” responded Buchanan.

As for what Kyle’s been up to since last being seen in early 2014, as played by Hartley Sawyer, it’s been said in passing that he had moved on to the Jabot offices in New York. He’s kept in communication with family since then with characters having phone calls with the character in order to keep viewers abreast of his whereabouts.

Soap Opera Digest first reported the news and spoke with Buchanan, who revealed that despite being born in Australia, Kyle will be speaking American English. “Yes, I’ll be doing an American accent which means the Aussie one is going to disappear,” he said.
