The CW Cleans Up With ‘People’s Choice Awards’ Wins For ‘Jane the Virgin’ and ‘The Flash’

On Wednesday, January 7, CBS aired the 2015 "People's Choice Awards," which saw The CW's "Jane the Virgin" and "The Flash," along with talent from the network's "The Vampire Diaries," "Supernatural," and "Beauty and the Beast," sweep much of the television categories.

On Wednesday, January 7, CBS aired the 2015 “People’s Choice Awards,” which saw The CW’s “Jane the Virgin” and “The Flash,” along with talent from the network’s “The Vampire Diaries,” “Supernatural,” and “Beauty and the Beast,” sweep much of the television categories.

Film stars Robert Downey Jr. (“Iron Man” and “The Avengers” franchise) and Jennifer Lawrence (“The Hunger Games” franchise) took top honors as Favorite Movie Actor and Favorite Movie Actress, respectively. Downey also won for Favorite Dramatic Movie Actor for his role as Hank Palmer in “The Judge.” “Maleficent” was named Favorite Movie and Favorite Family Movie.

Starring “The Bold and the Beautiful” alums Gina Rodriguez (ex-Beverly) and Justin Baldoni (ex-Graham Darros), breakout comedy “Jane the Virgin” took home the People’s Choice Award for Favorite New TV Comedy. After making CW history when it premiered to record numbers in October, “The Flash” took home Favorite New TV Drama.

Also taking home awards from The CW were “Beauty and the Beast” (Favorite Network Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show), its star Kristin Kreuk (Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress), “Supernatural’s” Misha Collins (Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actor), and “The Vampire Diaries” stars Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder (Favorite TV Duo).

Former “Guiding Light” star Matt Bomer took Favorite Cable TV Actor for his portrayal of Neil Caffrey on USA Network’s “White Collar,” which concluded in 2014 after 6 seasons. Angie Harmon took Favorite Cable TV Actress for her work as Detective Jane Rizzoli on TNT’s “Rizzoli and Isles.”

Favorite TV Crime Drama went to ABC’s “Castle,” which stars “One Life to Live” alum Nathan Fillion (ex-Joey Buchanan) as a novelist working with the NYPD on special cases. Fillion was awarded Favorite Crime Drama TV Actor and co-star Stana Katic was named Favorite Crime Drama TV Actress. Fillion and his series beat out “The Young and the Restless'” Shemar Moore (ex-Malcolm Winters) and his “Criminal Minds” series in their respective categories.

Currently in its 11th season, ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” took the honors as Favorite Network TV Drama, and its stars Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey, won for Favorite Dramatic TV Actress and Favorite Dramatic TV Actor, respectively.

Favorite Actress in a New TV Series went to Viola Davis for her portrayal as cutthroat attorney Annalise Keating on ABC’s “How to Get Away with Murder.” David Tennant was named Favorite Actor in a New TV Series for his work as Detective Emmett Carver in FOX’s “Gracepoint.”

Betty White (ex-Ann Douglas, “B&B; “Golden Girls” and “Hot in Cleveland”) was named Favorite TV Icon. The 93 year-old living legend was escorted to the stage by Chris Evans, who won for Favorite Action Movie Actor as “Captain America,” and given a standing ovation by attendees.
