Hot on the heels of the news that FOX ordered an extra six episodes of its much-buzzed about series, “Gotham,” comes news that the drama series has reversed its recent ratings trend: After weeks of declining numbers, “Gotham” is finally on the rise!

Monday night’s episode drew 6.5 million viewers and a 2.4 rating, up nine percent, according to Entertainment Weekly. Speculation is that the episode’s direction — breaking the crime-of-the-week format and giving more screen time to popular character The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) — led to the increase. It could also have been the recent news that “Gotham” plans to add The Scarecrow as a character (though as a child, rather than as an adult).

The show, which follows a cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering between good and evil, chronicles the birth of one of the most popular DC Comics super heroes of our time. It stars  (“,” “”), (“,” “”) and (“,” “”).
