When a fan provided subjective commentary on the current “” opening sequence recently, , Manager, Current Series, ABC, responded to the viewer with news that there will be multiple new openings showcasing the talented cast of the daytime drama series in the near future. If you’re wondering how soon that’ll be, a representative for the soap tells Soap Opera Network, “Viewers will start seeing the new openings in early July.”

Varni credited “GH” executive producer for spearheading the new openings for the show.

LOL. Took them months to add Maura West, and yet they added Michelle immediately. The whole opening should be re-done. It’s far too simple; you’d think with cast photos only, they’d update them constantly. I’d love for every cast image to be re-shot and re-done. Or moving clips.

Your reading skills are lacking, sport. The new openings won’t be til July

      • Joel

Actually, no they aren’t. The tweet said: “@PamPetrakos @nathanvarni Omg Michelle Stafford is in opening but Will isn’t? Wtf? Soo wrong on soi many levels! He’s EARNED a spot!” But Michelle is not even in the opening. So once again, I ask, do they have the next credits ahead of time?

contract terms have more to do with who appears in the openings than anything else..recently read that the actors have been asked to take ‘yet another’ pay cut..this affects who we do and don’t see on screens, and when we see them..any number of performers seem to disappear for weeks at a time – like temporary layoffs, then she show up again, while another ‘group’ disappears..these budget cuts that started in the late nineties haven’t gotten any better – and with Prospect Park filing Chapter 11 (where GH is taped), how much longer GH is gonna last in the current financial climate is anyone’s guess..shows do get axed (and movies get ‘shelved’) for budgetary reasons – audience numbers aren’t always the deciding factor…

          • Andrew Hass

GH is taped at the ABC studios in California.Prospect Park has nothing to do with GH.

          • Danny Hill

so what does, at the end of the credits, ‘Recorded at the Prospect Studios in Hollywood’ mean?

          • ds9sisko

Er, Prospect Studios — which is also known as ABC Television Center West — is a different entity than Prospect Park. On the corner of Prospect and Talmadge.

I can’t wait for the new openings and i’m wondering how different they will be from the old openings.Plus with multiple openings i’m wondering if the show wants to see which one the fans like most.

    • Joel

I think by multiple they mean like we have now: each feature core contract characters that usually interact within the same storyline circles.

According to TV Guide’s Michael Logan, they’ll have to make a spot for Billy Miller in the new openings. He’s joined the cast!

    • JayTN

I guess he couldn’t get hired on any of the new fall primetime shows. ;-)

GH needs a new opening. I’ve never liked the current one…it feels like something a high school AV club would put together.

      • Danny Hill

over the last several years, openings have gotten shorter and shorter..i wonder if these new openings will be longer than the short stacks we’ve been getting…

        • JayTN

Another question is whether or not GH will join Y&R and B&B in adding cast names to their new opening. Did AMC and OLTL add actors names…I can’t remember.

I know it is iconic, but the soap that I wish would get a new opening is “Days”. That spinning hourglass needs an update, stat!

          • Danny Hill

‘Days’ hourglass has been the show’s trademark since day one (1965)..at one point, GL got away from its lighthouse opening with slow-motion, fading leaves, then, at some point i don’t remember, went back to openings having to do with it’s original concept of a ‘guiding light’..i doubt ‘Days’ hourglass logo is gonna disappear after 49 years…

          • JayTN

I don’t remember any GL opening that didn’t incorporate some aspect of the lighthouse, but I’m no expert on opening titles and did not regularly watch GL. However, I’m not advocating doing away with the hourglass. But, “Days” can still “tweak” the opening (including keeping the Macdonald Carey opening) while keeping the hourglass aspect intact.

          • Danny Hill

the faded leaves design, if i remember the dates correctly, was from 1976-81..i think it was the then-new Jack Urbont theme music was the time it came back..i’m also not sure, not having watched ‘Days’ for more than twenty years, when they cut the second part of Macdonald Carey’s voiceover – omitting ‘this is Macdonald Carey, and these are the Days of Our Lives..i’m reasonably sure, in deference to any longtime viewers and for sentimental reasons, it would have been appreciated if it had been kept in its entirety..the last time i saw a ‘Days’ opening, it had been pared in half..ugh!..as Mac used to say, ‘Like sand through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives’…

      • b. kirk

ABC is open to Billy Miller doing other projects..Y&R would not agree to that. Love Billy Miller and will watch him no matter where he goes.

        • JayTN

Actually, according to reports, Y&R did seek to accommodate Billy Miller’s request for time to explore other projects. However, according to reports, Miller kept asking for more and more time off for those pursuits until finally Y&R had enough and told him to hit the bricks. I would have done the same. If Mr. Miller wanted so much time off to pursue those “other projects”, it sure didn’t take him long to pursue other daytime soap projects.

          • b. kirk

Maybe GH gave him an offer he could not refuse..It will be great to see him ANYWHERE..Love the guy.

          • JayTN

Yeah…they gave him an offer. Maybe it was the only one…it’s hard to refuse an offer when you only got the one. I do hope you realize that not everyone “love[s] the guy” and could not possibly care less where he goes after Y&R.

  • Eline

Jill and Josh cleaned house and now GH knows to snag the actually talented actors/Y&R veterans ie.) Rylan, Stafford now possibly Miller. Wouldn’t be surprised GH is in talks with Lindsay Bushman or Kevin G. Schmidt

  • bob dove

where is felix in the new openings. they have an openly gay head writer but refuse to show a gay character at the beginning of the show. this is crazy.
