While character and storyline details are not yet known, a rep for ABC’s “General Hospital” confirms that Shirley Jones, former star of The Partridge Family” and “Shirley,” will appear on the daytime soap opera in an episode airing next month.

Word of Jones’s appearance on the show first came to light yesterday when “GH’s” William deVry (Julian Jerome) tweeted actor William Shatner (“Star Trek”) and said, “we have Shirley Jones coming to ‘General Hospital’ tomorrow. We r still hoping ur agent will let u join us for a few eps.'” Shatner responded to deVry’s tweet by saying, “You know the last time Shirley and I worked together she played my mother. Send her my love.” The show in which Shatner was referring was TV Land’s “Hot in Cleveland.” An ecstatic deVry replied, “Oh that is amazing!! I will say [to Jones] u say hello.”

Earlier this evening, deVry tweeted images of himself alongside Jones while on set as well as the actress posing with Thaao Penghlis, who returns later this month as Victor Cassadine.

Jones’s upcoming gig on “GH” marks her return to daytime television. She last appeared in 2008 episodes of NBC’s “Days of our Lives” in the role of Colleen Brady.
