Angelica McDaniel (Senior Vice President, CBS Daytime): “I absolutely think that there’s a [place for it]. You can’t just have drama. You can’t just have romance. You can’t just have tears. You have to have laughter infused throughout, and some characters, especially on ‘Bold,’ but on ‘Y&R’ and ‘B&B’ as well, some of the characters [make it easier] to include the zings. For example, the lemon bars on ‘The Bold and the Beautiful.’ That’s a really comedic through line that always gets to come back. That’s great. And then, of course, so many great moments with Kay, Mrs. C [Jeanne Cooper], and… the cake fights with Jess Walton [Jill Abbott Fenmore]. So you definitely see the humor in the soaps, but that’s because they’re emulating real life, and in real life, you have high moments and you have low moments, and you have tears and you have laughter.”
