Ladies and gentlemen, prepare yourself for one of the strangest performances yet from “General Hospital” alum James Franco (ex-Franco)! The California native is appearing on tonight’s premiere episode of Fox’s ‘The Mindy Project,’ and star Mindy Kaling herself says that throughout filming for the show, the actor showed off “the weirdest, funniest version of himself.”

Franco is set to play Dr. Paul Leotard, a popular and supposedly very charming doc who fills in for Mindy (Kaling) while she’s doing volunteer work in Haiti. And as the actress tells MTV News, she’s very excited the former soap stud was available to film both the Tuesday, September 17 and Tuesday, September 24 episodes. “He’s a big movie star, but he has little breaks when he’s not directing or painting or whatever, so he said he wanted to come by,” she reveals. “He just rolls with everything… And so we’re really excited to have him.”

Catch all of the fun tonight when ‘The Mindy Project’ premieres at 9:30 PM EST on Fox and again for Franco’s second appearance on Tuesday, September 24.
