From 9:00 to 10:00 PM, the “GH” special attracted an average total viewing audience of 2.86 million and a 0.6/2 rating in Adults 18-49. Per TV Media Insights, the half-hour breakdown was as follows:

  • 9:00 – 9:30 PM: Viewers: 2.91 million, A18-49: 0.7/ 2
  • 9:30 – 10:00 PM: Viewers: 2.80 million, A18-49: 0.6/ 2

“The Real Soap Dish” held a nearly 1 million total viewer advantage (2.86 million vs 1.88 million) over the relocated “Smash,” which will air the remainder of its second (and likely final) season originals in the timeslot after NBC decided to ship the low rated series to the night back in March. “Smash” averaged a 0.5/1 in Adults 18-49.

For the night, “The Real Soap Dish” was the third most watched program in Total Viewers and tied for fourth in Adults 18-49. “NCAA Basketball” ranked first in both categories with 15.92 million viewers and a 5.1/17 in the key demographic. A second airing of “20/20” at 10:00 PM, featuring wedding trends, averaged 2.99 million viewers and a 0.6/2 in Adults 18-49. Both editions of “20/20,” which also tied an 8:00 PM repeat airing of FOX’s “” and a 10:00 PM repeat airing of NBC’s “ Live” in Adults 18-49, were only beaten by the aforementioned “NCAA Basketball,” an hour-long repeat airing of NBC’s “” at 8:00 PM and an 8:30 PM repeat airing of “Cops” in the demo.

Note: Numbers are based on Live+SD. Final Live+SD numbers will be released on Monday, April 8. Live+7 numbers will be released approximately on Monday, April 22.

  • So now all you guys that said Katie Couric should be shot in the head are celebrating her victory show? Oh, wow

All the ratings weren’t even added in yet. And beating Smash and a bunch of Saturday night reruns really isn’t an accomplishment.

Smash has had low ratings all along. So it wasn’t impressive.I would have watched Marie Osmond but ABC refused her.CBS let her do a 40th for Y&R to help boost there soap.It was really just to try help Katie’s ratings.Didn’t watch and will not watch anything on ABC except General hospital. At least Marie Osmond is a GH fan.Should have followed CBS’s lead and get GH all the free promtion as possible. But instead ABC just wanted to get Katie viewers.

Ñice try ABC &Katie, we’re smarter than you & it didn’t work!

There would have been more viewers actually watching the GH soap special if they had Wendy Williams or Marie Osmond who are true daytime soap fans do the show. Katie will never be a draw to daytime soaps and I bet the episode where she is on GH will be low ratings. ABC/Disney needs to let her go away.

  • He’ll I was upset you put her what were you all thinking come on I would have loved some one there who was a g/h true fan when my soap friends told me she was going to be the one doing this I could not believe it and she well be on g/h too I been seeing g/h from 1970 till to day am a true fan of g/h and when she is on sorry I well not be seeing the show that day sorry

This is no victory for ABC/D and Katie. Millions more GH fans did not watch this special, because ABC/D and Katie are still being boycotted! We would have loved to have seen this behind-the-scenes look at GH, but only with another host on another network!
