After attracting nearly a quarter of a billion viewers over the course of 17 nights, while airing the Olympics from London (July 27-August 12), NBC returned to earth last night as viewers tuned out of the network despite it premiering new series “Stars Earn Stripes,” and the second season premiere of “Grimm.”

According to TVbytheNumbers, NBC averaged a mere 5.33 million viewers and a 1.8/5 in the key Adults 18-49 sales demographic. The network was spearheaded by the season premiere of “Grimm” at 10:00 PM, which attracted 5.7 million viewers and a 2.0/5 in Adults 18-49. While this was the shows second highest ratings ever (only to its series premiere last fall), expectations for NBC were raised just a bit after the network aired the most watched non-U.S. Summer Olympics in 36 years to the tune of an average 31 million viewers each night. With no real competition from the other networks until next month when the 2012-2013 begins, NBC is looking for a beating in the coming weeks.

“Stripes” managed to muster just 5.1 million viewers and a 1.7/5 in Adults 18-49. The program was down 23% from the summer debut of last summer’s “Love in the Wild,” the website said.

ABC aired another 2-hour edition of “Bachelor Pad” (4.1 million viewers, 1.2/4 demo) and worthless “Big Brother” knock-off “The Glass House” (2.1 million viewers, 0.7/2 demo).

FOX won the night on the back of more Gordon Ramsey. The angry man’s “Hotel Hell” (5.1 million viewers, 1.9/6 demo) and “Hell’s Kitchen” (6.5 million viewers, 2.7/7 demo) helped the network average 5.8 million viewers and a 2.3/7 in Adults 18-49.

CBS aired a night of repeats, while The CW aired yet another repeat of “Perez Hilton: All Access” and an original installment of the show nobody watches (it got a ZERO share in the Adults 18-49 demo!), “Remodeled.”
