Ratings Reflection: Kassie DePaiva Comments Proven Right

"One Life to Live" star Kassie DePaiva (Blair Cramer) had many fans in attendance at last weekends "One Life to Live" Fan Club Weekend Luncheon scratching their heads when she said "I was told by our executive producer yesterday, that on Wednesday we tied with 'Y&R.'" Considering "The Young and the Restless" is daytime's #1 soap, we thought she may have made a mistake too, but it turns out she wasn't wrong at all.

“One Life to Live” star Kassie DePaiva (Blair Cramer) had many fans in attendance at last weekends “One Life to Live” Fan Club Weekend Luncheon scratching their heads when she said “I was told by our executive producer [Frank Valentini] yesterday, that on Wednesday [August 10] we tied with ‘Y&R.'” Considering “The Young and the Restless” is daytime’s #1 soap, we thought she may have made a mistake too, but it turns out she wasn’t wrong at all.

We’ll explain these numbers later, but  keep the following percentages in mind as you continue to read: 11% 24% 29% 20% 18% 59% 38% and 63%.

Although “One Life to Live” ranked third in overall viewers and tied for second place in households and Women 18-49 for the week of August 8-12, 2011 (Source: Nielsen Media Research), the soap did beat “Y&R” outright in Women 18-49 viewers and ranked #1 in all of daytime in Women 18-34 and Women 18-49 (rating) on Wednesday, August 10, which proves DePaiva correct in her statement. “I think it was the day that Josh Kelly [Cutter] took his shirt off, but I’m not so sure,” a laughing DePaiva said at the fan event. On that particular day “One Life ” had 858,000 Women 18-49 viewers and a 1.3/8 rating/share compared to “Y&R’s” 814,000 Women 18-49 viewers and 1.2/8 rating/share. In Women 18-34 “OLTL” held down a total of 313,000 viewers and a 0.9/6 rating/share compared to “The Young and the Restless” which had 175,000 and a 0.5/3 rating/share. Note: Women 18-49 is the key sales demographic used to sell advertising space for daytime programming to advertisers.

CBS

For all the talk about “The Talk” and its rumored personality clashes between the co-hosts, the show competing against “One Life to Live” in most markets has managed to virtually tie “As The World Turns” in Women 18-34 and Women 18-49 rating, however in total viewing numbers the canceled CBS soaps performance for the week of August 9-13, 2010 is beating the talker. In total viewers “World Turns” had 430,000 more eyeballs (2,452,000 vs 2,022,000) tuned into the trials and tribulations of Oakdale’s finest compared to “Talk.” The soap beat the gabfest by 138,000 Women 18-49 viewers (564,000 vs 426,000). Only 25,000 Women 18-34 viewers separated the two in year-to-year comparisons (155,000 for “Turns” and 130,000 for “Talk”).

It was down 8% and 2% year-to-year in Women 18-34 and Women 18-49 viewers, respectively. “All My Children” and “General Hospital” were up 6% year-to-year in households (both with a 1.9/6 rating/share). “The View” was up 5% (2.1/7 rating/share vs 2.0/7 rating/share).

You guys are the reason that Prospect Park is even interested. Please follow us to the internet! We will let you know how. Thank you so much, because we wouldn’t be where we are if it weren’t for you. I think ABC once again has made a huge mistake, so there! I’m just saying. – Kassie DePaiva to fans on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Marriott Hotel at the New Jersey International Airport during the “One Life to Live” Fan Club Weekend Luncheon.
