(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — Just weeks before the Prospect Park deal to pick up the production and distribution rights of “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” from the Disney/ABC Television group was announced, ABC revealed that they had decided to move ”One Life” head writer Ron Carlivati to “General Hospital” as a script writer once production wrapped on the soap in November. Is that still the case two months later?
As you may remember, Carlivati along with “One Life to Live” executive producer Frank Valentini were signed to long-term contracts with ABC back in September 2010 that kept them both with the network through 2012 (Valentini) and 2013 (Carlivati), respectively, leaving a move for Carlivati to “GH” an obvious decision.
Two months after making the announcement to hand Carlivati over to “GH,” and 17 consecutive weeks of “One Life to Live” rating as ABC’s #1 soap in households and total viewers, you’d think there was a chance of the writer to continue with the soap once Prospect takes over, but you’d be wrong.
According to an ABC representative, plans for Carlivati’s move to “GH” are still in place “as far as [they] know,” leaving the millions of viewers currently on the edge of their seat courtesy of the “Tale of Two Todd’s” storyline to wonder what the soap will look like when it debuts online on January 16, 2012 and who will be writing it.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — As previously reported, the cast of “All My Children” have received offers from Prospect Park to return to the series upon re-launch in January 2012, nearly four months after the series completes its ABC run. According to Deadline Hollywood‘s Nellie Andreeva, Prospect Park is offering Susan Lucci (Erica Kane) virtually the same salary she’s currently receiving from ABC.
In her Deadline.com posting, Andreeva states Lucci “is currently mulling the offer. While there will probably be some budget trimming due to the medium switch, it looks like AMC and OLTL‘s’ new producers are stepping up to keep the shows’ biggest stars and fan favorites.AMC and OLTL are scheduled to relaunch online in the first quarter of 2012. Prospect Park is also in talks with cable networks about carving out a traditional TV window.”
Should Prospect secure Lucci, it will mark the first public sign of confidence from an “AMC” actor since news of the deal between Prospect Park and Disney/ABC Television Group was announced on Thursday, July 7. The series has already lost Debbi Morgan (Angie Hubbard) to “The Young and the Restless” and Jacob Young (JR Chandler) to “The Bold and the Beautiful,” although for Morgan she made her deal with the the Sony Pictures Television produced “Y&R” before news of Prospect even came to light. Young announced his post-”AMC” plans on Monday, August 15.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — On Monday, September 26, “Days of our Lives” introduces a new era of drama when new co-head writers Marlene McPherson and Darrell Ray Thomas take over. On that day, citizens of Salem gather together for the launch of the new Horton Town Square that will house restaurants, boutiques and an even a book store.
According to a “DAYS” representative, the Horton Town Square will include the following locations:
- Sherman’s Sporting Goods
- Hourglass Fine Hour Decor
- Janet’s Boutique
- Mandalay Cafe
- The Mighty Pen Stationary, Gifts, & Crafts
- Salem Books
For the novice in you, you’ll notice the series paying homage to the Hourglass that has helped define the soap for nearly 46-years. Meanwhile, Sherman’s Sporting Goods sounds like a take off from the popular Sherman Oaks section of Los Angeles, while the Mandalay Cafe sounds a little like the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. We’re also glad to know that our favorite Salemites do indeed still read books, despite the immediate availability through Amazon’s Kindle or Apple’s iPad/iPhone devices. We know some drama will have to be going down there at some point. No one just reads books as it is still a soap after all.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — “All My Children’s” Walt Willey (Jackson Montgomery) was on today’s edition of WGN Chicago’s “Midday Fix” and while the actor was there to promote his stand-up act and meet and greets while he was in town, one topic that was up for discussion happened to be about Prospect Park and what its plans are with “AMC” and in particular the actors.
As we’ve previously reported on numerous occasions, 2-year-old Prospect Park is set to transition “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” to the internet after they complete their runs on ABC on September 23, 2011 and January 13, 2012, respectively. One of the things that must be worked out, however, is a deal with talent in front of and behind the camera.
“‘All My Children’ goes off the air on September 23rd, off broadcast television, but moving on with a company called Prospect Park – moving to the internet and hopefully a cable channel and the fans are dying to hear about that,” said Willey.
For those wondering when we’d start hearing about who would be moving to the online version, Willey put some fears to rest when he revealed that “we just got our proposal two nights ago, so we are all looking at it now, but bunches of stuff for people to be brought up to date on, which is why I did these meet and greets before the shows. So many people want to know what is going on and we want to tell them.”
While millions of fans wait for word on what their favorite soaps will look like as the go online, there was still some time for a little fun. Willey joked around with the “Fix” co-hosts when he announced he had T-Shirt’s made up called the “Dead Dogs of Daytime.” Although he didn’t reveal the name of the individual he was referencing to that helped him come up with the concept, he stated “somebody referred to us actors who are in soaps, as these things come to a close, that we were ‘Dead Dogs.’ The phrase of course is ‘Dead Ducks,’ not ‘Dead Dogs,’ but they weren’t even bright enough to know that.”
Willey can be seen tonight at 7:30 PM at Zanies – Old Town; Friday at 8:00 PM at Zanies – St. Charles, Saturday at 7:30 PM at Zanies – St Charles. For more, visit: www.zanies.com or www.waltwilley.com.
If his stand-up act wasn’t enough, Willey can be seen jumping out of a plane during the Chicago Air & Water Show on Sunday, August 21 along with the U.S. Army Golden Knights. For more information, go to explorechicago.org.
(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — Yesterday, we reported that Barret Helms was out as Baz on ABC’s “One Life to Live,” now we can also confirm that Nafessa Williams is also out as Deanne Forbes on the drama series.
According to sources, the actress already wrapped filming and was last seen on the Tuesday, July 19 episode when Deanna received the information she needed on her mother’s whereabouts from porn producer Rick (Austin Peck), who used the information to get her to appear in a porn film with Nate Ford (Lenny Platt), who was being blackmailed by Rick after learning Rick knew about what he did to Matthew Buchanan (Eddie Alderson). After receiving the information, Deanna headed to Los Angeles and made a promise between her and Nate not to ever discuss the details of the matter to anyone else. Unfortunately for her and Nate, their film was shown during the premiere of David Vickers’ (Tuc Watkins) movie, “Vicker Man,” instead of the film he intended to show Llanview.
Williams joined the cast of “One Life to Live” beginning with the Wednesday, March 23 episode, and like Helms, despite signing a lengthy contract with the soap, was informed her cycle wouldn’t be picked up.
Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming Soap Opera Network interview with Williams along with Helms, where the two discuss their experience on the soap and its cancellation and how the series going online may not be such a bad thing for fans.
