How WATCH ABC Changes Will Affect Viewing of ‘GH,’ ‘The View’ and ‘The Chew’; Shows Also on Hulu Plus

First Look: Erin Torpey's Return to Llanview

( — As we previously reported, TV Guide Magazine is confirming that Erin Torpey will be making a final guest appearance in Llanview this fall, in an unknown role. Unfortunately for fans though, it does not appear as if she will be sharing any screentime with her former onscreen mother Victoria Lord (Erika Slezak). So just who will she be interacting with? The website TV Line gives viewers a clue as to just who the mystery person may be.

According to an article on the site, “Ever since news broke that Erin Torpey would be returning to Llanview before the ABC sudser she called home for 13 years signs off, there’s been speculation about with whom, exactly, her non-Jessica character will ‘reunite.’ I’ve seen many folks pin their hopes on ‘mom’ Viki, but alas that is not meant to be. Instead, I will tell you that Torpey’s wink-wink scene will be with one of Jessica’s peers, and not an elder. Guesses?” Torpey played Jessica Buchanan from 1990-2003, when Bree Williamson stepped into the role.

On a related note, photographer Steven Bergman took several photos on Wednesday, June 28 (the day Torpey filmed her scenes) of the actress outside the “One Life” studios with her former co-star and onscreen love interest David Fumero (Cristian), who will be leaving the show before it wraps production in November. But will Cristian be the “peer” she “reunites” with, or was simply a case of two old friends having their picture made together? Tune in September to find out!

    ‘One Life’ Summer Casting Updates

    'One Life' Summer Casting Updates

( — The men in black are back, Mr. and Mrs. Patel come to Llanview, and other minor casting odds and ends for “One Life to Live.”

David A. Gregory (Ford) lists his July airdates on Facebook as the 1, 5, 13, 21, 26, 28, and 29, for a total of 7 of the 20 new episodes set to air during the month (he will also appear in the encore of Erika Slezak‘s 40th anniversary episode on July 4).

Despite the fact that it has already been announced that both actors will be leaving “OLTL” this summer, look for Gina Tognoni (Kelly) and Tom Degnan (Joey) continue to air through the month of July.

Fans of the adorable little tyke Patrick Gibbons, Jr. (Sam) can expect to see more of the the wide-eyed six year old in the coming weeks.

Although it is unknown at this time who has been cast in the roles, Vimal’s parents arrive in Llanview from India on Thursday, July 21, hoping to see their son and now pregnant daughter-in-law. But how will Vimal handle the situation?

Jonathan Earl Peck returns as Agent Baker on Wednesday, July 20 when he and one of his agents track down their man, but what will he do with him?

And look for Christopher Stadulis to appear as Agent #2 soon. The actors says on Twitter that he booked the role on June 9, and on Facebook that his scenes will air on Friday, August 12.

The character of Ionia (Kate Hodge), who plays Dorian in David’s movie “Vicker Man” (and who is currently throwing herself at David), has been given the last name of “Masters.”

    In other news…

Kristen Alderson (Starr) posted this picture on June 30 on Twitter with the comment “Fun photo shoot day!” She also responded to a fan tweet asking if there were any Starr/James love scenes coming by saying simply “maybe.”

Austin Peck showed his admiration of one of his co-stars following the Daytime Emmy Awards, tweetingErika Slezak? No mention. How many Emmys?! How many years?! WTF,” and “nothing against Susan Lucci but Erica Slezak has won how many Emmys and celebrated her 40th on the show.” He also makes several references to his ‘One Life’ character, the porno film producer Rick Powers. Last week he responded to a fan question asking if his storyline on the show would picking up steam anytime soon by saying “I think so. They’re moving slowly. Shows ending so it changes a lot. Bummed, really enjoying it.” He also tells another fan who asks when he would be on again that he “aired yesterday. I have fun doing it. No pun intended.” In addition, he points out to fan that he does not agree with his character’s reasons why people should be in the porn industry, saying “just to clarify. I do not condone.” And Peck also reveals how much longer he will be on the “OLTL,” stating it will be “Till they get tired of me or it goes off the air.”

And here’s a funny little post Nick Choksi (Vimal) made on his Facebook page last Wednesday: “Having discovered that my wife is a lying whore, my character goes on a bender with his new drinking buddy Todd Manning in tomorrow’s episode of ‘One Life To Live.’ This is a fun one. It continues into Fridays episode, where the booze makes me brave. ABC, 2pm, thu and fri.”

              Thomas A. Montalto/Montalto Photos

( — It was June 8 when newly appointed “General Hospital” head writer Garin Wolf previewed to TV Guide Magazine‘s Michael Logan that “sometimes they come back” in reference to what fans can expect from his tenure as the shows top scribe. Since then word broke that Leslie Charleson would be returning to the soap as Dr. Monica Quartermaine nearly a year after being placed on recurring status, but never seen or used since. Also expected to return in recurring capacities are Tyler Christopher (Nikolas Cassadine) and Ingo Rademacher (Jasper ‘Jax’ Jacks), who were both fired while under the Robert Guza Jr. dictated writing regime. Also showing their face for a lengthier stay than originally thought, and in a recurring capacity, is Constance Towers whose Helena Cassadine is finding herself a new boy toy after many years of lacking a 3 dimensional personality, the return of Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) and more Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliott).

“I want to make this a nice, easy transition. I want to bring balance to the show. I’m very big on secrets and romance and triangles. I’m a child of [Charles] Dickens and Doug Marland. I love “Dexter” and “Desperate Housewives.” I’m very eclectic. I love to combine a lot of different things, which is what’s great about soap operas. I love multi-generational stories,” said Wolf of what viewers could expect from him directly as a longtime fan of the medium himself. Regarding “GH” specifically, Wolf made it clear that “this is an amazing cast and I want to use everybody. I want to mix it up and bring back the entertainment. I want to bring back the reality to the characters’ lives. If you’re a cop, what is your life really like? Even in the most outrageous storyline, there must be some kind of identifiable emotion. I don’t care if we’re talking about a mobster or a plumber — you have to watch and say, ‘I know how he feels. I’ve been there.’ And we really need romance. For me, that’s all about yearning and obstacles. You have to know who you are rooting for and rooting against. I want to bring back villainy — dishy villainy, fun villainy, dangerous villainy. This is going to date me. My earliest soap opera memory is having a crush on Ann Flood on ‘The Edge of Night’ when I was 7 years old. And I went from there to ‘Dark Shadows.’ Growing up, comic books were soap operas for me.”

All the fun and excitement fans have been hearing about from stars of the drama series, including Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis), who has been very vocal on Twitter, kicks off on Tuesday, July 26, when Wolf penned episodes begin airing on ABC. Almost immediately fans can expect love, romance, fights for survival, passion, courtship, reconciliations, introductions, jealousy and even a touch of “Cougar Town” (think early episodes from the shows first season) to hit their screens. In response to what she knows of Wolf’s material, Grahn shared on her Twitter page ” “It’s going to be all about women. This team loves them. That’s not to say we’ll all be saints, but it’ll be about us. The pace will be picking up. The actors have worked with him [Wolf] before and they are all happy.”

Sources tell Soap Opera Network that with all returning cast members and the creative changes hitting “General Hospital,” you should expect to hear that those returning actors will be not be offered contracts. “All of these actors are being kept on recurring in an attempt to keep costs down in order to keep the show on the air,” said a source. The same also holds true for other daytime soaps as well. “This is a trend we can expect to see more of, not just on ‘GH,’ but in daytime in general,” our source continued. “It’s been headed this way for a long time,” a daytime star told Soap Opera Network requesting anonymity during Emmy weekend earlier this month. “We’re going to see less and less contracts and more people on recurring basis. Unfortunately this is the way its been headed and in order for daytime to survive, this is the way it has to be.”

The cost cutting idea is one that makes the most sense when you think about it. You’re not guaranteed to have to pay people who aren’t being used, so the big gamble will be either risk losing key players to current storylines or lose millions of dollars on stars you don’t use, only to see your show canceled due to budget constraints. In order to avoid this all together, it is also likely we will see actors continuiously picked up for cycles as they are used and then being dropped before the next cycle kicks in.

( — “What Are You Talking About?” has been a running joke with fans of “General Hospital,” who have noticed Brenda Barrett Corinthos saying this exact line to a character in nearly every episode, but now we’ll soon never have to hear it again (at least for now) as portrayer Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo‘s final airdate has been set after it was finally confirmed on Tuesday, June 7 that the actress would be departing the ABC daytime drama series after months of rumors. Marcil Giovinazzo filmed her last scenes on Thursday, June 9.

While it was widely known that the actress would be leaving “GH” during the week of July 18, Soap Opera Network opted to wait to report on this tidbit as fans really wanted to know exactly when they’d get their final glimpse of the beautiful and talented actress in the fictional town called Port Charles. According to sources, Marcil Giovinazzo’s last airdate has been scheduled for Thursday, July 21, when Brenda says goodbye to her soon-to-be ex-Husband Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and all of Port Charles. But don’t feel bad for Brenda! She’ll depart Port Charles in a fashion similar to how she left back in 2003, but this time with some extra baggage and on a much happier note. Too bad the same can’t be said for Sonny and Carly (Laura Wright).

Where will Marcil Giovinazzo land next? On May 26, the actress tweeted follower nygall33 with news that she is “working on an animated children’s show that I wrote with my sister and my son. GAGOO AND THE LAND OF CHOICES :)” Today, she followed up that tweet with “get ready guys….got a new job last night that I can’t wait to tell you about. GAGOO is coming………:-)” Could the two tweets tie in together? Follow the actress on Twitter to find out!
