( — “One Life to Live” Episode Recap – Monday, June 6, 2011.

Marty tells Todd the whole story. Todd presses her to leave but she’s having a fit of remorse. Todd tells her she’s suffered enough. He promises he’ll tell John about the baby. John arrives and is face to face with Todd.

Meanwhile, Brody searches Todd’s house, to Téa’s dismay, as John has found Tomas with the baby at the poolhouse. Tomas claims he heard the baby crying and found him. John brings the baby to Brody and tells him to take his son to Natalie.

Téa argues with John about Tomas, convincing him not to arrest him but to go after Marty. Téa asks Tomas if what he told the cops was true, and he swears it is. Téa remembers Todd keeping her out of the poolhouse previously. Tomas makes a phone call to Calmar, telling him they dodged a bullet.

Natalie is at the hospital with Roxy, who doesn’t get a chance to reveal the tape recorder to her before Brody comes in with the baby. It’s a huge happy reunion. Roxy tries to play the recorder. After depositing Shane at the gym, with Cristian showing Shane the ropes, Gigi goes back to Buenos Dias where Blair is with Jack.

Jack tells Blair about police cars at Todd’s and Blair calls Tea, learning about the search for Marty. Gigi arrives and refuses to serve Jack. Blair and Gigi argue.

Jack tells Blair he’s going to the library but goes to the gym to torment Shane. Shane intentionally drops a barbell on Jack’s toe. Jack cries and Shane laughs at him. Gigi arrives and takes Shane back to BD and warns him to find more effective ways to resolve conflict. Blair tells Jack she knows he came to the gym to make trouble for Shane, and she sends him home. Jack texts a warning to Shane. Shane tells him to bring it.

Rama cries on Cristian’s shoulder about her inability to tell Vimal the truth about the baby. They have a fraught moment. She moves away but then returns to apologize and ends up kissing him.

On the Next One Life to Live…

Disney/ABC Television Group

After news broke today that ABC would be bumping “General Hospital” from its long time 3:00 PM ET/2:00 PM PT timeslot beginning in September 2012 in favor of a new Katie Couric talk show, the network was forced to calm the nerves of fans who are still reeling from the cancellations of “All My Children” and “One Life to Live.” Unfortunately, the network is just delaying the inevitable to placate fans from believing that their favorite soap could be next.

“As you’ll note, we went out of our way to state that we continue to support the show,” Disney-ABC Television spokesman Kevin Brockman told CNN. “We have a long time between now and fall of 2012, so fans should be encouraged to continue watching and supporting.”

Brockman’s statement was echoed by Jori Petersen, Vice President, Publicity, ABC Daytime/SOAPnet. “The announcement does not mean the inevitable cancellation of ‘General Hospital,’” said Petersen. “Rather it means that in September 2012, we will program our daytime block with our three strongest shows. We’ll have options for the daytime daypart just like with do each year with prime-time. We believe in all of our shows and the ones that our viewers want will be the ones that continue. There are many options that could happen … only time will tell. We are simply giving ourselves options for the future, which is a smart way to do business. The best way to ensure a favorite show stays on the air is to watch it.”

If you read the statements clearly, no where does it state that “General Hospital” is indeed safe. Petersen’s “we will program our daytime block with our three strongest shows” means that if “The Revolution” and “The Chew” are successful and “General Hospital” is canceled, they will join “The View” as the “three strongest shows” on ABC Daytime. Let’s reminds ourselves that ABC is giving back the fourth hour of its daytime schedule to affiliates beginning in September 2012 with the understanding that while Couric’s show will air in syndication (ie. not just ABC affiliated stations), it will air solely in the 3:00 PM ET/2:00 PM PT timeslot as Oprah Winfrey did in the 4:00 PM ET/3:00 PM PT over the course of her 25-years hosting “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” This will be the deal breaker the Disney/ABC Television Group will make with affiliates looking for programming to air beginning in fall 2012.

Will “General Hospital” indeed be canceled? No one is saying that either, but unless “The Chew” or “The Revolution” flat out bomb and the network loses money, odds are “GH” will end in September 2012 to make room for Katie Couric.

Side Note: While we understand that Oprah’s show did not air at 4:00 PM ET/3:00 PM PT in all parts of the country, the majority of stations airing her show were contracted to air the program during those hours.

Katie Couric Bumps 'General Hospital' While ABC 'Chews' Its 'Revolution'

( — While "The Chew" and "The Revolution" have yet to debut nor have "All My Children" or "One Life to Live" even taped their last episodes, the ABC Television Network is already making moves with its fall 2012 daytime schedule. The network announced today plans to launch a Katie Couric hosted syndicated daytime talk show which provides the failed evening news host with a hefty $20 million a year salary plus ownership of her program and reunites her with failed network executive and CEO Jeff Zucker, who will be an executive producer with Couric on the yet-to-be-named series that will be based in New York and produced in conjunction with Disney/ABC. The show will take over the 3:00 PM ET/2:00 PM PT timeslot from the networks "General Hospital" beginning in September 2012 after the network returns the hour to its ABC affiliates no earlier than that time. Of course that doesn't mean that "General Hospital" is safe in any way.

According to the network, in addition to hosting the new syndicated program in 2012, Couric will join the ABC News team, contributing to all programs and platforms, including "World News with Diane Sawyer," Couric's former timeslot competitor. Couric's employment with ABC begins this summer and her responsibilities will include anchoring news specials, contribute interviews, participate in special events coverage and discuss interesting stories of the day.

"Katie Couric is one of television's iconic figures and we are thrilled to have forged such an exciting partnership with her. We look forward to having Katie join the best News team in the business, and to working with her to create a dynamic and successful talk show franchise," said Anne Sweeney, president, Disney/ABC Television Group and co-chair, Disney Media Networks in announcing the news.

Couric is excited to be returning to ABC for which she began her career. "I'm very happy to be returning to the network where I began my career as a desk assistant in 1979. It is tremendously exciting to have the creative freedom to develop my own show with Anne Sweeney, the Disney/ABC TV Group and Jeff, and to contribute to such a vibrant, innovative news division. I can't wait to be part of this incredibly talented, visionary team."

"It was a blast working with Katie at 'Today' and I'm excited to do it again," said Zucker. "And besides, it should be more fun spending time with Katie at 3 or 4 in the afternoon than at 3 or 4 in the morning."

In the press release, the Disney/ABC Television Group revealed that its eight Owned & Operated stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Houston, Raleigh/Durham and Fresno, which represent nearly 23% of the nation's TV households, have already cleared the new Couric hosted daily talker.

Buried within the press release was where it was stated that "as part of the announcement, the network is set to return the last hour of its Daytime network block to affiliates no earlier than September 2012, but continues to support 'General Hospital,' and the plans to launch 'The Chew' in September of this year and 'The Revolution' in January 2012."

With three programs vying for two hours of daytime real estate, look for "General Hospital" to be the odd man out as it costs more to produce a soap than it does a daily talk show as we've seen earlier this year after the network opted to cancel "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" citing poor profit returns on a slowing advertising economy as soaps continue to lose viewers and it making more financial sense to produce for cheap than to produce scripted television.

For the network this is a win, for fans of scripted television and soaps in particular…it is a sign of the times. Let's hope NBC's "Days of our Lives" and CBS' "The Bold and the Beautiful" and "The Young and the Restless" bring it as 2012 will be the year in which only three soaps may be left for daily scripted entertainment.

Freddie Smith's First 'DAYS' Set Plus Details Surrounding Possible Gay Storyline

( — While "Days of our Lives" has still not officially confirmed that actor Freddie Smith has joined the cast of the NBC daytime drama series, Soap Opera Network confirmed two weeks ago that Smith had signed on with the show and will be portraying the role of Sonny and we can now confirm his first airdate will be Thursday, June 23. If that was't all, we can also confirm that Sonny is in fact one of Adrienne and Justin Kiriakis' (Judi Evans and Wally Kurth) son's. To be precise, presumably the name "Sonny" is a take-off from their biological son Jackson (the two have three other children either adopted or birthed from other relationships). Look for Sonny's return to Salem to be a welcome surprise for his parents when he reunites with the two at the Cheatin' heart.

According to sources Smith will share his first scenes with Kate Mansi's Abigail Deveraux, Chandler Massey's Will Horton and Camila Banus' Gabi Hernandez. As for those gay rumors surrounding the character of Will, it is understood that Sonny will play a heavy role in that yet-to-be-confirmed upcoming storyline. From what we know of their first meeting, Will and Sonny share an interesting moment where Will wonders what Abigail is doing with the new stranger in town at the pier. Is Will wanting to protect his best friend Chad DiMera (Casey Deidrick) from a possibly cheating heart or does Will just have an instant disliking of Sonny? Either way, graduating from Salem High School will keep Will busy during the summer months as he prepares for his journey to Salem University in the fall.

Speaking of Salem University, "Days of our Lives" is casting for an 18-20 year old gorgeous girl. All ethnicities. Must be under 5'6". Girl is a gorgeous college student who is bright savvy, confident and is not afraid to speak her mind. The role is scheduled to appear for one episode.

Daniel, who wants Billy and Victoria to have Lucy as their own, decides to go to court to testify that he's willing to let the Abbott's adopt the baby. The judge soon asks Rafe if he knows of anyone that has any objections to Daniel's decision, and all are stunned when Kevin shows up, wanting to talk. They are greatly at ease when he backs Daniel's decision in letting Lucy stay with Billy and Victoria. They are then informed by the judge that a recess will take place before any decision is made. While the court proceedings have ceased, Phyllis, who has lured Daisy back to Genoa City, works to manipulate the young woman into wanting her parental rights with Lucy. Phyllis's plan works and the two of them, along with Leslie, make their way to the courthouse. Back at the courthouse, the judge has made a decision: Billy and Victoria can adopt Lucy. Everyone in attendance of the proceedings are happy for the two of them, but that happiness is destroyed courtesy of Phyllis, who has arrived with Daisy in tow. The judge wants an explanation and Phyllis gives one: she says Daisy wants her rights as a mother back and has agreed that Phyllis should be able to have visitations to Lucy. Daniel and Lauren are outraged by Phyllis's callous actions. Daniel warns Daisy that his mother is only using her to get Lucy and once Lucy is in her hands, she's history. Lauren confronts Phyllis about her betraying her, then goes after Daisy, but is pulled away by Michael before she can get her hands on the troublemaker. Daisy attempts to right many wrongs but her attempts and explanations fall on deaf ears. Meanwhile, the judge informs all that the ruling that was decided will still remain in affect, however, there will be another court case in the near future.
