(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — Shenell Edmonds, who has played the sassy, outspoken Destiny Evans on “One Life to Live” since 2009, has been nominated for her first BET Young Star Award.

The 17-year-old actress faces some stiff competition for the award, including  Will Smith‘s actor/musician offspring Willow and Jaden Smith, Run-DMC co-founder Joseph Simmons (aka Rev Run) rapper son Daniel “Diggy” Simmons, and Keke Palmer, star of the Nickelodeon show “True Jackson, VP.”

Evans thanks her fans for their support on her Facebook page, and says that she is “still totally excited” about being nominated.

Hosted by comedian Kevin Hart, the 2011 BET Awards will air on the cable network on Sunday, June 26, at 8:00 pm ET. Click here for more information.
