(SoapOperaNetwork.com) – “All My Children” loses one if its most popular stars.

UPDATE: On January 25, Egan once again took to her message board and Facebook to personally contradict reports that she ceased taping on January 11. She reports that her last air-date is March 21.

Late on Thursday evening, Melissa Claire Egan announced on her Official Message Board and on her Facebook page that she has made the decision to leave “All My Children” after four and a half years of playing Annie Novak McDermott Lavery Chandler Chandler. When contacted, a spokesperson for “AMC” confirmed the disappointing news.

The Emmy nominated actress debuted on “AMC” in July 2006 as good-girl Annie. In 2008, it was widely rumored that the character was slated to be killed off after a homicidal run right before former head writer Charles Pratt Jr. took over the reigns. The controversial writer turned Annie into an entertaining albeit still homicidal nut-job and a big fan favorite. Annie’s dysfunctional pairing with JR Chandler (Jacob Young) is currently one of the soaps most popular pairings.

A source close to the actress inisists that reports that the actress ceased taping on January 11 are inaccurate and she is still taping as of today. “AMC” appears to concur with that source telling Soap Opera Network that a last air-date is not yet available for the actress.

Look for a mentally unstable Annie to cause more than her fair share of trouble in Pine Valley before exiting. There was no comment on the inquiry of a possible recast for the character.

Click on one of the links highlighted above to read Egan’s entire statement. Although she’ll miss her “AMC” family a lot, the 29-year old actress appears to be very excited and optimistic about her future.

Egan joins Shannon Kane and Finn Wittrock on the growing list of actors which “AMC” has let out of their contracts this year. Speculation is that the firings and early departures raining down on ABC Daytime are due to the last several months of lower than usual demographic ratings which translates to less money available to spend on talent and production.

“All My Children” airs Weekdays on ABC. Anytime on ABC.com.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — Brittany Underwood (Langston Wilde) has been released from her contract by “One Life to Live.”

ABC Soaps in Depth is reporting that Underwood, who has been a part of the “OLTL” cast since 2006, is leaving because her departure is “storyline dictated,” according to an ABC spokesperson.

No word on a final airdate for the actress, however, she tweeted earlier this week that she had just filmed scenes for “One Life’s” Valentine’s Day episode.  It also remains unclear how her exit will affect Langston’s on-screen love interest Robert Ford (David A. Gregory).

SON will continue to follow this story and bring you more details as they develop.
