(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — As ABC continues the restructuring of its news division, union employees representing technical jobs at both the network’s news and daytime operations in New York, are being offered buyouts from their jobs throughout the day today.

The jobs in question represent NABET (National Association of Broadcast Employees & Technicians) union members working in studio and control room positions for various ABC News programs, as well as the network’s daytime shows “The View” and “One Life to Live.” The reason for the elimination of the technical jobs is the result of the installation of an automated control room for ABC’s main studio on 66th Street in New York City.

According to TVNewser, while it is unclear exactly how many of the affected employees will volunteer for the buyout, the number of jobs lost could be similar to the 350-400 jobs cut by ABC News earlier this year, which resulted in the elimination of a quarter of the news division’s total employees.

SON will bring you more details as they develop.

“One Life to Live” and “The View” air Weekdays on ABC. Anytime on ABC.com.
